Practically all of mexico has either quit ssb64 or switched to project melee, not to mention other people that have quit already or are quitting after apex 2015.

With smash 4 on the horizon, I'm beginning to doubt whether we can break apex 2014's number of entrants at apex 2015. It's been a fun ride

Smash 4 is going to pwn all the smash games for several months. People in the Brawl boards are already mourning as smash 4 will relegate them to side event status.

you're always so desperate to make it seem like 64 is "objetively" the better game and it's sooooo much more advanced or whatever. It's just not true.
sometimes... in those sleepless nights
i'm faced with the dreadful realization that i'm spending time with the game that is not the best game evur
i get an existencial crisis
and so i come to the boards and brag about 64 being the best game evur

dex quit? dang

I think it's pretty obvious that smash 4 is going to pwn all smash games inn terms of entrants..maybe except for Melee, but it's hard to tell.

I still think 64 can break this year's number of entrants, and the moment when smash 4 players figure out that they don't like the game as much as whatever other smash game they were playing, things will go back to normal.

I mean, I won't lie. If I legitimately have FUN playing smash 4, I might enter the tournament at Apex. Might as well when in Rome.

I also think I might use this opportunity to host smash 4 tournaments alongside 64.

edit- there's actually a pretty decent concentration of 64 players in nc now. They just recently had a 20-something person tournament that Narwhal won. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to go, but not all hope is lost.

if boom quits, and isai quits (tournaments), and kb warriors keep on flaking, does that mean kero is the best?

Boom should take a break... probably needs therapy too. He can't adjust to civilian life after spending so much time in Hyrule. Poor guy.

Got you added

For sure. I like the feel of all the demo characters except for Mega Man, he just comes off as really clunky to me.

Villager is definitely my favorite though. The tree is TOO GOOD
Mega man felt bad at first, no f-tilt messed with my brain a bit, but I've seen him as a fun challenge and love training as him, I'm actually doing quite good too! Oh and a tip if you don't know already, you can select final destination mode for battle field if you press (X) before pressing battle field, biggest plus is no items :3

lol, I figured out the FD thing a day or two into playing, the items were getting to me so it was about time. Mega man is quite hard to use, he's definitely my worst character of the demo characters. Having such an odd jab, nair, and ftilt really hurts zoning/boxing out, especially in this game (from what I can tell so far, anyways).

I'm liking the game so far though, can't wait for the full version

Me to, it feels like a fluid game to me and I can't wait to play online, btw if you wanna try to play mega man for fun, do more D-airs, B-Airs and forward smashes, up tilt kills, and up smash can combo into multiple up smashes, U-Air is good after a Up/ Down Throw, or when you know you can hit them, side b is good, but cpu's can be smart and just keep shielding, throw a neutral b and multiple jabs/ forward tilts, it's fun when you learn him a bit :3
Edit: Down smash kills too, and Down tilt can pop em in the air for another hit/ combo starter
Edit #2: dash attack is really good too!

With the super long survivability it seems like gimps and general off-stage fooling could be really good, which is exciting considering I'm gonna play dk and he has 4 dunks

Assuming both are going super tryhard, probably taking a game from Isai since relentless camping plus perfecting your combo game on your own can get you pretty far. Melee has a much more intricate micro game than 64, and that's what Mango really excels at. You can't learn that in training mode.
when you went to California and played with isai this summer, how many games did you win?

Isai/Jouske > Mango > M2K > Boom IMO lol
I do think m2k is better at Melee than Isai is at 64

Luigi sucks

The skill ceiling/scene for melee is way more advanced. The competition is way tighter. I'm not going to repeat everything I've already said to back that up. This is mew2king being won over for his emo attitute. The guy ragequit. He didn't beat nintendude nintendude didn't beat him, and you'd be lying to yourself if you said that Nintendude was better than m2k in any way.

edit- I don't see how the things you posted are evidence for anything tho lol. I think Nintendude is better at Melee than he is at 64 anyway. It's all he's been playing the last year

The competition is tighter in peewee wrestling than say, Olympic Greco when Karelan was active cause the guy ****ing dominated. All of na 64 competition would be just as tight as melee if Isai and boom didn't exist. Your argument sux

Karajan, multiple people have already told you you're wrong, but your comparisons/analogies are atrocious and you're wrong about this. I've already told you all of the ways that the Melee players are more skilled, but you're just a 64 fanboy who is in denial. The only half-baked legit point you had was the Amsa thing, but hey Wizzrobe has become a top 8 contender in the same amount of time, so yeah.

Actually, to that same point, Wizzrobe has been GRINDING on dat Melee play in a state with a bunch of top 15 melee players (hbox, colbol, plup) and he still can't touch their top competitors, but he plays close games (64) against Isai online, against boom in tourney, based on Zenith he's as good as Kero. He's done all this mainly with the help of Sheer (a top US player but by no means a top 20 player in the world) and the florida mafia, and he's been able to climb to the top consistently. He will place top 8 at Apex again and will be much better. I can guarantee that he won't be skilled enough to do that for Melee.. not yet at least. He needs more time because by the time he's taken three steps forward, the top Melee players have already taken six. He doesn't have to worry about running into that issue with 64, because, once again, the competition sucks compared to Melee.

Me: Melee community/meta is over 10 years old. International tournaments with money prizes, amount of tournaments per year, how the difference between games affects how important taking stocks really is (and that was a ****ty argument by you at best), top players ACTUALLY have to worry about other players coming for them every tournament they go to.

you: I went to japan jouske teaches them how to play they're super active you don't know anything herp derp. Boom took stocks from m2k in melee SIXTY FOUR MASTER RACE.

Please.

Why don't you look at this my way? My way of looking at it is that there are a lot of things we can learn from the Melee scene (the MUCH more developed Melee scene). They have some amazing principles and practices, plus some ****ty ones too. In some aspects, having a scene like theirs is something to look forward to, and we have the opportunity to build something much better based on that model. but noooooo

All you see is the SIXTY FOUR MASTER RACE WE'RE SO MUCH BETTER [insert battlecow quote about being "objectively" better]. You need to take care of those cataracts and stop being so apologetic about 64's scene.

I'm also surprised that fireblaster replied to me with that stuff lol. He's the one who's constantly complaining about not having anyone to play with (not even online). I doubt he even honestly believes the 64 scene is more developed. It's just not, but keep going, Karajan. You're hilarious.

I never implied that the 64 scene is more developed, I just don't agree with everyone saying that melee has a much higher skill ceiling. I posted that link because I thought it was funny that nintendude and others are saying that players are more likely to take games off of isai and other top players than the "5 melee gods", but then nintendude goes and beats m2k while not a single person takes a game off of boomfan at zenith

I would just say that, in that case, M2K is horrible at the peach ditto. He gets destroyed by Armada, and he's already played close peach dittos with Nintendude before. Nintendude is basically playing exactly like M2K plays peach and they were just stalling each other.

I dunno wtf is going on don't feel like reading everything.

But IMO melee is definitely the more difficult game to play at an elite level.

I've been involved with both competitive scenes since 2005/2006. Though I stopped caring about melee placings around 2010.

I have and still do play with elite melee players(Colbol, hbox, plup, Shiz, and all the other past and present FL greats). When m2k was the undisputed #1 player in the world (2007/08) I got his Marth down to 1 and 2 stocks in our pool matches.

I do feel like the odds of taking a game off one of the melee gods are higher than taking one off Isai. The combo game is way more forgiving in melee. Mango is not going to 0-death combo you every stock like Isai will. While Isai only needs to make 1-2 solid reads per stock Mango will need to double and triple that to take stocks. A lot more room for error.

IMO its akin to comparing 64 samus vs kirby. With samus being melee and kirby being 64. Samus (melee) doesn't have the ridiculous punish game Kirby has so she's stuck having make a lot more reads and having to CLEARLY out think and play her opponent for the win.

When you get whipped in melee it actually feels like you were utterly violated (sexually) because your habits and patterns are being punished many times per stock where in a 64 game vs Boom or Isai it's only once or twice.

Those are MY feels on the subject. You're welcome to agree or disagree.

Sedda, since you think mago is better at melee than say, jouske/isai is at 64, how many years of 64 training do you think it would take for mango to literally be better at 64 than jouske/isai?

How many years of melee training do you think it would take isai/jouske to be better at melee than mango?

Here is the way to really think about it: All of the top players in Tacna peru have been playing each other competitively for over 10 years. One of them (gerson) goes about even with Isai's pika. But Gerson can only go even with 1 character. Isai can go even with Gerson with 25% or more of the character roster, probably even more on dreamland. Assuming your mango goes even with m2k with their best characters, mango would need to also be able to go even with m2k with the next 6 to 8 characters to have an equivalent dominance to Isai. Pretty sure thats not the case.

Yeah but to continue the analogy, isai/jouske come in a play kirby dittos and beat everyone else without using utilt or bair (equivalent to non-top 4 characters)

We're just going to have to agree to disagree because you're still looking at it from this dumb angle.

Sheer has basically just told you that he has experience in both games, he explained to you why it would be easier to take a game off of one of the Melee gods because of the things that I mentioned before (all of the game mechanics that I mentioned that make Melee different). This is what Nintendude referred to as "micro game." Taking stocks in Melee doesn't carry the same weight that it does in 64.

melee is definitely the more difficult game to play at an elite level.
You're just being unreasonably stubborn in trying to prove a point that doesn't exist, Karajan.

^^Actually yes. M2K and Mango are pretty close in skill in 6-8 character battles. M2k is the best with all 26 characters. However, that's completely different from 64. There so many elements that you're ignoring here. The Melee low tiers have serious disadvantages compared to their high tiers. Your comparison here is really flawed in so many levels, mainly because both games are very different, and because being the best with all characters or one character is the same to me. If Isai vs Gerson were to happen constantly in the future and Gerson won most of the tournaments, I would say Gerson is the better player even if he's not the best at 12cb. His pikachu is his preferred character and he'd be the best at the game with him.

At everything else you said though, about "how long it would take x player to get as good as y player." You're just speculating here. Speculating is not how you defend your arguments.

Literally none of what you said in the last part I quoted you on matters at all anyway, because you're comparing the skill between two sets of players among characters in two very different games that have very different advantages and disadvantages.

I just more or less realize that you're trying to go about this the same way you do everything else. Like it's a math equation. Everything is a math equation, but you're ignoring a **** ton of variables to try to make it seem like 64 is more advanced. It's really far behind imo.
