don't get me wrong, i grew up with the 64 controller and i love the thing, but from an entirely objective and nostalgically unmarred perspective, the thing is a monstrosity

Well that's why I like you. You're like me and can set his emotions aside to look at things objectively.

A thinly veiled way of basically saying you're a fellow warrior against genwunners

I didn't grow up with the N64.

only 2 things wrong with the n64 controller:

1. Left handle. This whole section is pretty much useless.

2. Stick durability. I guess some complaints about it being rough too.

This controller has some good button placements and is fairly comfortable to hold.

3. One hand way lower than the other in default position. Someone called me OCD for saying this last time but seriously it throws me off. Maybe just because I'm not used to it. But I guess this is caused by the existence of the useless left handle (as well as the general hugeness/clunkiness of the controller), which you addressed.

Also 4 C-buttons is kind of questionable to me but I'm cool with it and dual-analogs is ahead of the N64's time, so I guess I'm nitpicking at that point.

@Eikelmann I think I've actually literally forgotten that controller lol, I tried to recall it and could only think of the 360 controller. You can tell I was huge on Xbox.

I wonder if I'm like the only one on this thread who wasn't raised with the N64. Anyone else?

i find that hard to believe, since you aren't adamant about only 151 pokemon existing \o/
That's because I'm the most objective man alive.

Wait, are you saying you weren't raised with Nintendo games? Or are you just a boss amongst men like me?

snes controller buttons are legit, but the actual geometry of the controller is whack

@ sk's point about the left hand being lower than the right on a 64 controller: the left hand being lower gives the right hand massive leverage when **** DIing. it allows you to get back into position quickly and have badass slide DI

my first console was a snes and my second, the n64. i was definitely raised as an n64 player

It's more of a personal thing. When I try to like, point straight up or down, I end up doing it slightly to the side for some reason. It sounds dumb but yeah, that's what happens to me when one hand is lower than the other.

Also I don't really see how you get "massive leverage" when you're just shaking the controller with your right hand and keeping your left hand still (or at least the way I do it) but OK. I can **** DI on the Hori fine. In fact, I think vertical **** DI is better on the Hori because when you shake the normal controller left and right the left and right handles get in the way (I tried clubba's controller briefly). I'm guessing that's why Moyashi doesn't really **** DI vertically in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8F13WU6ERY

It's probably more frequently hailed as the best game ever than any other game though

To me, picking the "best game ever" is like picking the "best book ever" or the "best movie ever". Impossible.

"OoT sucks" would be a novel opinion. "OoT is a great game that isn't the best game ever" would not.
firstly, i saw this 'sitting in the back being a poncey critique' post coming ten miles away

secondly, 'OoT sucks' is probably the second most common opinion, courtesy of everyone who never grew up with a N64 and is all about graphics and bad cover-based shooters

he's not wrong. i never played oot when i was young, tried to play it a few months ago and could barely make it past the prologue.

also picking the best game ever is easy.

fallout 3.

Those people probably don't know what OoT is lol

Eh, consider going back to it sometime. I didn't play it when I was young either, and the first time I played it I didn't make it past Dodongo's Cavern (second dungeon) 'cause I got bored (sue me). But I went back to it and 100% cleared it, and I'd say I enjoyed it second time around.

P.S. You also said pro wrestling is the best sport so forgive me if I take your opinions on what you think is "best" with a grain of salt :troll:

i see your point, but that doesn't invalidate my own point

inb4 ballin commenting that informed 'OoT sucks' opinions are the only opinions that qualify as 'novel'

Its pretty sad because I've never played a zelda game really at all, my n64 adventuring was mostly filled by banjo kazooie and Tooie and I just never saw the appeal of LoZ.

I haven't played Majora's Mask, but I heard that it's very polarising. People seem to either love it or hate it. Hm... maybe I should go download it oops I mean buy it

there are some secrets that you won't find on your own (without investing 80+ hours or something) and the time factors seems very, very limiting, but it's quite a good game and manages to stay interesting all the way to the end for both casual and completionist players

i really would have liked to see the fairy fountain prizes come in a different order, just so the stone tower fairy prize didn't go to waste

Erasure Tier

Link's Crossbow Training

Windmill Hut Tier

Majora's Mask
Oracle of Ages

Gerudo Valley Tier

Oracle of Seasons
Link's Awakening

Hyrule Field (Twilight Princess ver.) Tier

Twilight Princess
Ocarina of Time
Link to the Past
Minish Cap

Everything above this line is still quite good, don't make me out as a hater

Wind Waker, Skyward Sword, original/LoZ2/DS games weren't ranked cuz I haven't played them

In terms of N64 platformers, Banjo Kazooie > Majora's Mask > Banjo Tooie = Super Mario 64 = Donkey Kong 64 = Ocarina of Time = Rayman 2
< Gex 3 \o/

Conker's was ****ing funny, but as a game and nothing else it was kinda...spread all over the place

Wasn't criticism. It's just not really an interesting opinion.

I've never encountered anyone who expressed the latter opinion btw. I've seen "I just didn't care for it" but not "wow that game is HORRIBLE".

anyway, majora's mask > oot, without question
Gameplay-wise I'd say they are pretty close. However Majora's Mask has the best atmosphere of any Zelda game I've played. MM feels more thematically complex too especially compared to the cookie-cutter story in OoT.

What secrets are you talking about here? I want to know if I missed something :)
