I said this before but my favorite fictional settings tend to be one that mix sci-fi and fantasy. If I was to create a complete new world from scratch, it would probably be greatly fragmented in terms of civilization and technology so you get a good mixture. Samurai Jack is a great example.

I only found out about it reading another forum, but apparently this has been talked about since yesterday. Took me forever to find the original post (the mention of a starling is on the next page) to give credit. Which is why I mention I'm not trying to shoot the messenger, and pointing it at the person who posts cryptic hints--it's a good way to unnecessarily rile people up.

I think video games are a perfect medium for wanting to worldbuild but not being too concerned about narrative/characters. Not really my field though lol.

Technically not a "world" but I rebooted a project of mine and completely redid the setting to go from being set in the modern day to being set in the future in an alternate timeline. It's been really fun although there's a lot of "oh god but what about this and that and this." I have to think about the behavior of the characters in the context of this world, their habits, etc. It's fun but also kinda overwhelming at times.

I’ll admit that a few of my worlds started out as video game ideas that have morphed into they’re own thing.

Actually some of worldbuilding came from video games themselves, Spore as an actual game was disappointing, but the creature/building/vehicle creator in the game allowed me to visualize a bunch of ideas that I couldn’t otherwise since im a terrible artist.

Oh great the whole "Humanity is evil, so they must die!" trope. Not like I seen that before...

For what they call the most powerful Pokemon in existence. Mewtwo sure as hell got captured easily...

Really Pikapool? Running away from this like a coward after Mewtwo exposing what you did?

Oh goodie the typical pre-climax argument. Seems like they've adopted that Disney/Pixar formula. Obviously they're gonna meet again, make up and then save the day in beating the bad guys like how those movies do.

Wait what now? Pikapool saying he betrayed Harry and is upset about it? I'm not following? Maybe he was mind controlled? Only thing I can think until possibility revealed.

Oh no...Don't tell me. Pikapool is gonna accidentally hurt main lead...I'm feeling it...

And he did...I was expecting something more like critically hurting him badly.

Huh went better then I expected. I thought main lead was gonna lash out for Pikapool hurting him. Not a pre-climax argument as I had thought. Still I know its still gonna end with them meeting again, making up and saving the day!

So I finished DBZ and I should move on to Super... but... I feel like taking a bit of a break so I won't burn myself out of DB.

So, anyone got a suggestion on what to watch next? So far, I watched all of MHA, and the OG DB and DBZ.

If nobody else is going to, I guess I will:

WATCH JOJO’S BIZARRE ADVENTURE.

But seriously though, it’s a super fun anime to watch. Over the top action, plenty of hilarious moments (alongside moments that’ll make you yell “WHAT THE ****?”), interesting twists and turns that the story takes at points, and different protagonists, supporting characters, villains, and settings in each “Part” to keep things fresh.

A couple of things to note:

- Although the dub is really good, I personally prefer the sub, as most musical references (the creator of JJBA loves rock music from the West, so he named various characters after bands and songs) are pretty much changed for copyright reasons, and some things (including hilarious Engrish) get lost in translation.

-Here’s a quick rundown of what I mean by “Parts”: the series is divided into different parts, each taking place in a different setting, featuring a different member of the Joestar bloodline and their allies, and new villains, in a chronological order. Whatever you do, DON’T SKIP ANY PARTS. The watch order goes like so:
1. Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure (2012) (Parts 1 and 2: Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency)
2. JJBA: Stardust Crusaders (Part 3’s first half)
3. JJBA: Stardust Crusaders: Battle in Egypt (Part 3’s second half)
4. JJBA: Diamond is Unbreakable (Part 4)
5. JJBA: Golden Wind (Part 5)

And most importantly, avoid spoilers at all costs, there’s some major character deaths and plot twists throughout JJBA.

I'm still feeling it. Main lead and Lucy are gonna become a couple in the end and obviously will kiss. It almost always ends that way when characters get together in the end.

Oh crap Howard transferred himself into Mewtwo! Its not gonna end well. How are they gonna save the day and help Mewtwo back in his body?

Now I get it. Pikapool was trying to help Mewtwo escape. That explains why Mewtwo was trying to protect him and Harry. Man what a twist there!

Man I thought Thanos was mad with his plan but Howard definitely is sure up there with him and King Ghidorah. I didn't think such a villain could be pulled off like that in such a movie like this. Massive for a detective film.

Yup saw it happening with Lucy and her Psyduck. I wonder how main lead and Pikapool is gonna reverse everything.

Yeah most of the time the worldbuilding stems off from characters first. Although sometimes I feel like I like to do worldbuilding just as a creative outlet for myself rather than a cohesive story with characters.


For everyone that responded to my original, I’d be interested to hear y’all talk about your worlds if you want.

I have imagined my character in a game based on the real world, but it’s really just an EarthBound ripoff with some real-world people and mostly real-world settings.

My character basically goes against what is the norm for media, having “characters resembling real people is entirely coincidental” be thrown out the window in a show/cartoon/game that’s also a big crossover or has a bunch of/at least some cameos or Easter eggs so it’d basically be a royalty nightmare.

The name of my character is basically my username, or “TheBrinelord” for another title, or my real name/first name (not comfortable with sharing though).

Basically it’s me except I’m made of blocks like a Minecraft character but I’m not pixels and hair and stuff isn’t flattened like a texture (though I guess I’d still be made of boxes, maybe with very small, rounded edges). Inspiration is also taken from Herobrine and so I have white eyes, except with some detail so they’re more “soulful” or alive and not dead white (though I guess they’d be solid white if I’m very angry/the only time I’m 100% serious unless it’s a sad time), and I’d also be a hero though still treated as a normal person most of the time. I’ll share an image of a simple depiction tomorrow for an idea of what I’d look like as this character.

As my character, I also have the power to control “brine” or saltwater, and I have four magic “ties” (basically triangular pieces of fabric I can easily remove from the neck of my shirt, not sure if I want to make them actual ties or not) that give me multiple powers when worn, each one having some different powers + a couple or so powers that are better when I’m wearing all four. My powers can also only be beneficial to people, and can only hurt pure evil (though I guess I’d still need to be careful in indirect situations...).

Red Tie - Tie of Power/Flames - Boosts my strength, and lets me use fire, lava, and whatever other heat-related stuffs. The fire and lava can only keep people at a comfortably warm temperature at best. My other elemental powers also can’t hurt people and do the most helpful or least-painful thing instead, as far as being illogical normally or going against the laws of physics.

Green Tie - Tie of Magic/Earth/Healing - Lets me float around and sorta fly, and makes the non-brine powers easier to use/control smoothly. Also let’s me control earth stuffs like rocks, as well as some plant life. Also lets me heal people from stuff like wounds and diseases.

Blue Tie - Tie of Water/Speed - Lets me control more liquid stuff than just brine, so pure water as well, and also lets me use ice powers or even water vapor (so I can basically melt/freeze things). It also lets me run as fast as sound if I want, and if I’m also wearing my yellow tie, as fast as light.

Yellow Tie - Tie of Light - Lets me control light, air (can’t mess with water vapor without the blue tie, still), and electricity. It also boosts my defense, and lets me create orbs of light and even “solid forms of light” (not 100% sure on how to explain but i.e. platforms or stuff you could touch, pick up or step on, etc., and it could be any color and looks kinda like as if there’s little stars floating around throughout the object + is kinda transparent but may bend and blur stuff seen through it).

All four ties at once - If I want to, I could go into a very powerful state, but it uses up my energy until I would need to take a good sleep; basically a last resort. I can also fly much better than with just the green tie.

Other powers that require the ties:

-Shoot out different colors of paint with my, uh, “hands”? (I imagine having stubby arms like a Minecraft character still); controllable amount and speed, etc.

-Have them play music.

-I thought about each tie letting me shoot a laser that matches the tie’s color but idk. I guess the yellow tie could let me shoot light beams at the very least.

The only other power I’d have without needing the ties, aside from controlling brine, would be a controllable, magnet-like grip, but wouldn’t only affect metal and would still require strength. I guess a “gravitational grip” would be a better way to define it. I also thought about shape shifting, but maybe just into brine and visible vapor, and maybe also the ability to stretch my body like Mr. Fantastic.

That’s basically it. I have imagined a world I call ”Brineland”, but it has a white sky and shades of gray with other stuff in some locations so I guess it’s a bit dreary even though it’s supposed to be happy...

I believe this is the first time I’ve actually shared my deep thoughts on here regarding my own fiction.

Exactly this. I grew up on the dub, and as much as it sucks certain things got lost in translation, it still has some of my favorite out of context voice acting that I still think back to randomly.

In the world I came up with, every single human being works a JRPG character. They all have eight moves (though a rare phenomena can occur that lets certain humans have sixteen), and everyone has types (usually it's one to three types, but it's possible to have more if you're lucky). Also, everyone has unique physical features that differentiate them from everyone else, and usually represent their types. The types you're born with, but the moves you have to learn, and there's a certain island you have to go to in order to add moves to your moveset. The moves have types too. Annnnnd that wraps up my commentary. Damn took me three hours to do. Anyways very solid flick I must say. Definitely regretted not seeing in theaters and has what it takes to make into my top 11 films this year. If I had to rate it I'd give it 7 out of 10 stars. Slow but great build up with a mix of epic action and a great climax.

Definitely gonna pick up disc for sure.

Kinda hoping it stays as a standalone film because based on how it ended it feels like it would be but that's just me.

It is the same source, though, and he has shared an obscure hint before (a blue crab statue to hint Link’s Awakening).

Other members in the Geno thread aren’t sure about it either, though. It could just be Pokémon or something or Pikmin 4 with a new bird friend or enemy or feathered Pikmin.
