Social Social Thread - Please Read Last Post

Also about the whole dual version thing, the original intention for it was to get people to seek out others to trade with for exclusives so they could fill out their pokedex, and it works. Pokemon was always meant to be about trading and is a bit of social game at its core. Die hard fans wasting their money on buying the same game twice is just a bonus.

What's really dumb and outdated is the enhanced 3rd versions. They should add new features through proper sequels or through DLC. It's a shame Black 2 / White 2 did it well but Ultra Sun/Moon screwed it up so badly. Here's to hoping Max Sword / Shield go back to Gen 5's way of doing things, if we get them at all.

With the GTS system though, dual versions are completely obsolete. Well, almost obsolete since it still lets them sell the same game twice.

Finally home from work, so I can share my thoughts on that new Pokemon Sword and Shield trailer (really did not expect a trailer today):

• All the new Pokemon look okay.
  • For another food-based Pokemon, Alcremie has a good design. I was hoping it'd have an evolution since it seems to have potential for it, but after it was revealed it is getting a Gigantamax form, it doesn't seem like it. Ah well, still my favorite of the three newly revealed Pokemon in this trailer.
  • Rolycoly gave me Roggenrola vibes when I first saw it (probably because they both look like simple rocks but with a singular eye), but only later did I see its art was when I learned it has a wheel. Based on its new ability and the description, I have a feeling it will evolve into a Rock/Fire dual-type.
  • Dialga is no longer the only Steel/Dragon-type: Duraludon joins the club in some pretty insane resistance typing! Design looks a bit too rigid for my tastes, but I guess it suits it well for a Steel-type. Based on the description of where it resides and how it often clashes with Tyranitar, I'm guessing that:
    • Duraludon is the final-stage of an evolution family, and
    • It, or rather its basic stage, won't be catchable until the late-game (I would've even be surprised if it turns out to be this game's pseudo-legendary).
• Chairman Rose looks like a cool and energetic guy. Seems like he'll be a fun character. I didn't think of the possibility he could be the villainous team leader (especially when considering the name of this generation's evil team doesn't seem like the kind that would fit him), but after hearing about he is a wealthy business owner, I can kinda see it, but as for his secretary...
• Oleana definitely looked shady when I first saw her with her stiff and sophisticated look. She definitely looks antagonistic.
• I was originally a bit perplexed when I saw the Fighting and Ghost-type gyms in that same rocky mountain location, but after learning it's because we have version exclusive Gym Leaders in this game, I think it's cool. Both of those new Gym Leaders look great, and their characters seem cool. I'm leaning more towards Bea preference-wise, but I think Allister is also cool. Pretty nice to know my Sword preorder is paying off now that I know Bea is a Gym Leader in Sword!
  • Also, I can imagine some Sinnoh fans already pointing out, "Yo, Bea is a barefoot, female Fighting-type Gym Leader! You know who else is a barefoot, female Fighting-type Gym Leader? Maylene! You know what this means? SINNOH CONFIRMED THIS GENERATION!" (come on fellow Sinnoh fans, I can't be the only one that thought of this).
• So that one Sword and Shield is getting more credibility with the confirmation of Gigantamax today. I'm digging all three of the new Gigantamax forms revealed so far, with my personal favorite surprisingly being Drednaw's (something about that bulky appearance suits it very well, like it's a set of rock-hard armor fitting for a massive power boost!)

In all honesty I'm working on five projects at once. So I'm not really sharing any of them in case any get pushed back or cancelled. I'm stepping pretty far out of my comfort zone.

But! The FE thing is an Awakening spoof that @Gentlepanda helped create the backgrounds for. I'm hoping to get it out before Three Houses releases, but I don't know a) how it'll turn out, b) how long it will take or c) if it'll even be any good. I'm trying something new.

If it doesn't suck, I'll post it here.

Till then, I'll have to probably just buy another 50 dollar card for my Switch. Perhaps. It's kind of hard to find what to use it for, as I vastly prefer physical games. VC-type stuff is usually all I get for Digital, with Digital-only games being the only actual exception otherwise. Like when I got Dragon Fantasy and the 3DS' Yu-Gi-Oh game based upon ZeXal.

If you ask me, I think it’s great you’re willing to aknowledge it’s frightening and still do it. That’d very admirable. Even if this does n’t go over well, I’m sure you’ll still be able to learn a lot from it.

Yeah but no Kalos Pokémon got megas until ORAS, and it was only Diancie.

And the Alola starters got exclusive Z moves.

Hell, add a Battletoad too(issue is there's 3 of them, so it's kind of hard to choose which one. There's no real de facto one to go off of from what I can remember. At the very least, Fulgore is a very clear option and the mascot of KI alone, making it a quicker choice. It's also still an active series where Battletoads is still in development).

- General ranking order went Students>Byleth/Sothis>Faculty/Church>Villains. Raphael, Lorenz, and Ignatz are the only students to rank below the Byleth of their own sex, and all three are from the Golden Deer.

I don’t think that team tell are the main bad guys. The leaker said they liked what they played but then got mad and leaked stuff. Based on their Leak, it sounds like they played up to the forth gym since they didn’t know anything past they from the sounds of it.

Makes me think it’s pretty likely that they didn’t see everything and a true villain lurking in the shadows would make a lot of sense. I’m betting it’s the chairman who’s rigging leon’s Fights for money or maybe he’s paying team yell to act that way so that they distract or make it harder for trainers to succeed in the league challenge. I guess we’ll see. It’s to early to judge the story but it has potential.

If it's anything like Sun/Moon, the real villain will be a twist. Or at least written as a twist even if it's bloomin' obvious. (Lusamine and Faba couldn't look more like anime villains if they tried.)

But there's still room to speculate: Chairman Rose selling out the league to buyers from Pokechina? Republicans trying to knock the champion's awful crown/cap off his head? Oleana snaps when one person to many makes fun of her outfit? Hop decides to destroy Poke-London with a steampunk mech?

Sounds reasonable that they may not have made it far enough to see the 'true' villainous team. Team Skull were the antagonists of Sun/Moon as far as the protagonist and players knew up until the end of the second Island where we finally went to Aether Paradise and got clued in as players that Lusamine is not totally legit. So what was that; 5 trials (which were really just Gyms) in? Seems perfectly plausible that the 'real' threat wouldn't actually be found out until a little bit past the 4th gym. They might be using Team Yell without their knowledge (as opposed to Team Skull knowingly being used by the Aether Foundation).

That you don’t actually have to kill Dimitri and Claude. I don’t know, i’ve never liked killing main characters, and as a teacher myself I don’t like the idea of having to turn my blade on a student. But I can only hope there’s SOME way in which your teams work together or some ****. Those 3 together, Edelgard, Dimitri and Claude would be badass.

Yo, btw, staindgrey , real quick word if you don't mind.

You said your running 5 projects at a time, which is pretty crazy. That makes one or a few of them falling through much easier, which is obviously not ideal. I know this is self explanatory, but be sure to work at a steady pace. Being a little out of your comfort it totally fine, but don't get to far out or you'll just be overworking yourself. Again, best of luck on the projects. I'm looking forward to them!
