Been thinking, how many of you Mario Kart fans around here really enjoyed Double Dash?

Would you like to see the two characters per kart (a rider and a driver) mechanic return in a future MK installment someday?
That'd be cool. If only to justify more characters. I want Kamek and Dr. Mario in at this point. Hell, I'll take Metal Mario and Gold Mario too. Though I'm fine with Pink Gold Peach, if only as a callback to Mario Party 2 where everybody could go Metal. Another thing they could do is have a slightly smaller screen and let you toggle costumes on some characters, but only if they're literal swaps(but it'd still have different stats). It'd be a neat way to make the roster easier to work with.

I'm mixed on ones like Cat Peach, etc. The only ones I honestly never liked were the Babies beyond Mario, Luigi, and Peach currently in. They feel more shoehorned than other Metals, who at least, as noted, existed in previous games. In Mario Party 2's case, that was a mechanic of one of the endings on one of the boards. So it was done for everyone. Nobody got left out. If they do make more metals, I do want cool names too. Like Steel Wario, Iron Waluigi, etc. The more change-ups, the better.

Double Dash is the absolute Chad:
-Pick your two fav characters to team up
-Wacky af
-Bowser Shell eternally bouncing at Baby Park
-Blue Shell really feels menacing with that "hisssss"
-YUGE ANGERY BANANA
-Burn everyone's ass with green fire
-Wario Colisseum
-Petey is ****ing huge
-You can go ham with drifting but doesn't feel cheap like in the DS
-You can murder Toadette
-Character icons that spin really hard if you get sniped midair in the last jump of Bowser's Castle
-King Boo still sounds like Satan but is cute af
-Expand Mountain

So yeah, Im fine if the duo mechanic returns :V

That's one good way to look at it. Considering multiple items have been able to get stored/stacked in later entries, I'm not sure how much of a difference it would make otherwise. I'd like to see the mechanic return if it helped with the roster but also if it brought something new to the series again.

Also, all I'm gonna say is, the less baby characters in Mario Kart, the better.

Bruh.

That was literally the best part of the whole game.

I don't even care if we don't get another small, enclosed course again. Bowser Shells NEED to come back to the Mario Kart series someday. They wreaked absolute havoc and it was glorious.

For sure. DD pulled off the mechanic quite well, and if it returned it would be a welcome addition.

And I say addition because I think it would be optimal if there were modes to accomodate both standard 1-character karts and 2-character karts.

If it was DK Jr., Baby Yoshi, or even Baby Wario, they'd likely be received better.

Nonetheless, the idea of having multiple costumes could still work with others like Cat Peach easily. I forgot, what was the other Mario? We had Metal Mario, Mario, and some other power-up. Tanooki Mario, I think? I'd replace that with Dr. Mario or have him as his own character. It depends if you'd want 2 or 3 costumes per character. If 2, you could have Metal Mario and Dr. Mario as one, being both heavyweight. I also don't know if Cat Peach was the same weight class as Peach or not. I didn't get the DLC for 8 at all, so...

you are missing out on some sweet 200cc Baby Park action
I barely played it. I might just trade it in for the Switch version, if only cause I'd be saving more money. I use my Switch more these days.

Like, I might just go and unlock everyone(I have them listed in the order I unlocked them) at most, but I could use more Switch options anyway. MK8D sounds like a good option. So far, the only game I'm going to upgrade to is from Mortal Kombat X to XL, due to my Goro DLC expiring.

It'd also be cool to see both playstyle options integrated into the main gameplay, throughout every mode, but I'm not sure if that'd be easy to balance.

Whatever they'd do with it, I'd hope they do it carefully. The mechanic's been absent for so long now that, regardless of whether it's just a side-mode or part of the primary modes, they'd really need to stick the landing with it. More so if it's the latter.

...I got pushed off into the void and died in my Minecraft world.

Tanooki Mario and Gold Mario, I think. Dr. Mario would be much more welcome, imo.

Also, Birdo needs to come back to the series. Diddy Kong, too. At least Deluxe brought my favorite racer King Boo back...

If you weren't in The End, that is?
I just got my Eletra and as I was flying down, an Enderman must of caught my gaze, and when I landed, I went near a cliff to pearl warp, realized I was out, and was then immediately pushed by the enderman.

My very first Eletra was kept for a grand total of twenty seconds.

I have a lot of nostalgia for Double Dash as it was my first GameCube game, though I have difficulty going back to it now cos it feels like everything's super slippery for some reason

I'd love to see the two racer mechanic return - the ideal scenario (which isn't happening, but I can wish) is that plus the DS' mission mode coming in as DLC modes for MK8 Deluxe, given that Mario Kart 9 doesn't look like it's happening for a long time

I would like Nintendo to do a non-Mario Kart racing game in the interim before the inevitable 9. F-Zero or something new like the Donkey Kong Racing concept back in the GC would be cool.

^This.

I really like Mario Kart 8 though. The environments look great.

They should just steal the Star Fox Grand Prix fake rumor concept (which did involve a Diddy Kong Racing-esque style), put in F-Zero, and make everyone happy.

Nintendo: We can't think of how to bring back F-Zero
Fans: We did it for you--get to work.

Another confession: Super Paper Mario kinda sucked imo.
Confession to your confession: I'd gladly accept Super Paper Mario becoming the norm for the franchise if it meant avoiding Sticker Star and Color Splash.

Mini confession: I think Super Paper Mario was a worthy successor to TTYD. Plus the main villains were infinitely cooler.

Noipoi Noipoi sorry this took so long. So to start, I want to return the series to its traditional formula with some potential QOL changes but I also wanted to incorporate and better flesh out some elements from SS and CS that have potential.

The partners would return and instead I wanted to limit the number of partners to around 4 or 5 but they’d be much more fleshed out in terms of story relevance, personality, moves inside and outside battle, etc. One such partner I had in mind was a female Reznor I’ve named Rezqueen who’d have a number of abilities and attacks with her horns, fireballs, strength, etc.

The companion character(s) I have are a duo of a magic sentient sketchbook and pencil (who communicate through written dialogue) that potentially belong to the main villain and get separated within the story, Mario has one, Peach has the other. It’s here where I’m thinking about turning this into a story where Peach gets her own side with her own gameplay, battles, partners, etc. (Two of Peach’s partners would be a Toad retainer and Daisy)

A potential villain I have in mind is an artistic sorcerer/sorceress who becomes interested in Bowser and his forces and decides to make him their muse. The sketchbook and pencil see their user becoming obsessed and making dangerous creations and decide to try and stop him/her.

Confession: I played sticker star without any prior knowledge of the series and honestly really enjoyed it
I honestly had fun with it too, but the poison area was dumb. Compared to the previous 3 games, yes, it's not as good, imo. I prefer turn-based for my rpg's, but I disliked the lack of a "have your basic jump and basic hammer attack for free". Give me that, and I'd like it more. The lack of leveling up with experience properly wasn't a major deal to me, but it did feel shallow due to that. It still felt like an RPG regardless. So I never got the complaint that it's apparently not an RPG? Shallow, sure, but not one at all? Experience is just one RPG mechanic. Turn-based is another. So are Hit Points, and so on.

That said, if I had played it first, I might enjoy it more, since I couldn't compare it to previous games. So I get ya. The game did it's job as a very simplistic rpg for what it was. I do like that Color Splash gave a form of leveling up again that was tied to actual battles, so that's neat~

Also, the Things cards are cool on their own, even if the game in itself wasn't for you. I hope those continue in some way regardless of them going back to the old formula or not.
