At this point I'm just a little sad to see Pokemon's long-awaited home console debut mired in negativity months before release. Regardless of circumstances, that's never a big moment you want to see ruined.
I mean, since gen 4, console debuts for Pokemon tend to be lackluster as seen with DP, XY and this so it was kind of bound to happen

People can complain about Game Freak. They can complain about the lack of a National Dex. They can complain about the visuals not being up to their standards. But you know what? If those people tried as hard as they are finding reasons to be dissatisfied with Sword and Shield, I bet they could find a ton of things that they like about the game too.

The closer we get to release, the more people are gonna realize that there's other factors about Pokémon games that they enjoy. There's still a ton of new Pokémon we haven't seen yet, and people didn't shut up about their love for Scorbunny and Wooloo until they learned about the no National Dex thing. We haven't met all of the characters yet, and there's still an evil team with big goals relevant to the story that haven't been touched yet. And let's not forget all the other new features that haven't been shown yet. I'm sure there's still quite a bit left to reveal.

I don't expect these wounds to heal completely, but I do believe even the angriest of fans, whether they want to or not, will mellow down as more info gets released. I'm not sure if it'll be enough for them to be happy with Sword and Shield, but I doubt they'll still be "angry".

Heyyy happy page 500

And nice to see that the Pokemon ****show is still going on ...

... I think not all Pokemon being available is a real shame and it's definitely dented my enthusiasm for the games, but it's personally not my greatest priority. The real important factors are if content is being cut in terms of available mons, then Game Freak is making up for it in solid content in other areas of the game. Like an expansive post-game *cough*BattleFrontier*cough*. Or options for tailoring the game experience (e.g. difficulty levels, skipping tutorials etc.). Dynamaxing as a feature hasn't sold me tbh but hopefully there's some good stuff they've yet to show. Hopefully.

I'm surprised I still remember my old Roblox account. I ditched and made a bunch of new ones over the years but my first one was still back in '09. This one was made in 2012 I think?
I've had four accounts, which all had the same name, just with a different number at the end. I had to keep creating new accounts because I kept forgetting my password. This is my current one:

I mean, the idea of "Just rolling over and taking it" isn't ideal either. In fact, it's arguably one of the de-facto worst mindsets to have as a consumer, because it means you'll let a company get away with a bad business practice and still defend them for it.

Do you know why people voice complaints? Because they know things can be better.

I don't think 'anyone' liked the mission structure in Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon, and it's BECAUSE people hated on it that the Devs themselves looked at discussion forums, saw the hate and realized "Maybe we shouldn't do this next time.", which, mind you, they themselves admit it's due to us, the fans. People could have just said "Yeah, I don't like the mission structure but at least we got a new game...." in a defeatist way, and LM3 could have had Missions again, but they didn't, they let their voice be heard, and the devs listened. If you don't like something, don't be afraid to speak out. You have a voice, you can and should voice your displeasure.

Mario Maker 2's another great example. No online friend co-op? **** no that's awful, and Nintendo listened. We're probably going to get it now, which adds replay-ability and fun to a great looking game.

And again, Ultimate. It'll never happen again, but Sakurai looked at what the fans wanted, and delivered. We'd never get every.single.character back with characters like Ridley, K.Rool and Banjo were it not for the fans more or less saying "We want this in Smash." The next Smash will never be able to repeat what Ultimate did, but that's fine, it's a once in a lifetime thing.

No one should just "Accept" or "Be grateful" for a product being pushed out if it doesn't meet their demands, we have a voice, we're allowed to use it, and judging by Nintendo's current events, they 'do' actually care about what we have to say. Look at what happened with Chibi Robo. Nintendo shoehorned out a subpar game, and despite the fans knowing it'd probably kill the series, they told Nintendo "No, this isn't what we want." People could have just rolled over and said "At least Chibi Robo got a game..." But fans spoke very loud to Nintendo that "No, we don't want this, we deserve better than a hastily **** out game."

Do I 'care' about Sword/Shield's controversy?

No, not really. I haven't been in love with Pokemon for a long time and wasn't going to get it anyway.(I don't even HAVE a Switch)

But this "We should be grateful that corporate is pumping out a yearly game" attitude is piss poor. "Rolling over and letting corporate have its way with you" is one of the worst attitudes to have as a consumer. Nintendo, Gamefreak, etc are not your friends. They're businesses who put business, and money, first. They don't care about you, they care about lining their pockets. Stop defending businesses for bad business practices, they're not your friend.

Sword and Shield will sell millions, this is an undeniable fact, the worst selling mainline Pokemon game sold 14 million ****ing copies, but their lack of communication with the community, unlike Nintendo between constant Directs and the developers giving us updates on games, is appalling. If they want to nurture a healthy relationship with the community, they need to be less transparent. They need to say "This is our roadmap, here's what to expect." Pokemon has gotten to a point where they realize that they're too big to fail; this fan backlash is a wakeup call for them to realize "Maybe we should try to talk with our fans for a change instead of just expecting them to buy our new game because it's a new game."

Trust me when I say, if they had actually gone into detail about the fact that "Not every Pokemon will be in SwSd" and added a "but here's out 5 year plan", I guarantee you that the backlash would be MUCH less severe, because fans would understand what the hell to expect instead of fearing their favorites are gone for god knows how many years. As is? We know nothing because they've basically SAID nothing. We don't know what Pokemon are gone and when they'll even BE back, and this lack of transparency can only be blamed on Gamefreak, no one else. Now of all times they should make a statement to try to calm fans fears, but they've done nothing and have hoped this will blow over, which, I'm sorry that is a ****ty move and a blatant spit in the face of the fans which have genuine concerns going forward.

Because I assure you, no, this isn't going to blow over, it's Pokemon, you literally can't show us new **** aside from new Pokemon, and the more new Pokemon that you show us, the angrier people are going to get. The new mechanic that they had hoped would become the next big thing, Dynamaxing, basically fizzled out completely. What else is there? A couple pretty locations you'll go to once and never again? There is no "They'll forget when they see new stuff", because the only new stuff to show is Pokemon, and all that's going to do is breed more "Wow, cool Pokemon. Shame I can't use it on a team with my other favorites." Even JAPAN is pissed about this. JAPAN! They almost never see eye to eye with us on stuff like this, and yet they're just as pissed, if not MORE.

Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

Treating the biggest multimedia franchise of all time like it's some scrappy underdog that needs to be shielded from criticism is... kind of a silly look, if you ask me.

Nobody is taking anybody's right to enjoy SwoShi away. It will easily be one of the commercially successful games of the decade. I get being wary about widespread gamer outcry turning toxic as has so often happened in the past, and not all the arguments have been 100% fair (none of this is the result of a desparately understaffed dev team being "lazy"), but for the most part I'm just relishing finally seeing even the tiniest of dents in the armour of the Pokémon Company's monopoly after they got away with releasing USUM and an RGBY remake with less content than the last RGBY remake at double the price.

Corporations are not, have never been and will never be your friend.

DP lackluster

You just lost my respect
Okay but for real Sinnoh's geographical layout's a mess. Snowpoint should be the final area, but it's isolated from the rest of the region on a route that is a massive slog to get to, and going through Mt.Coronet so much just isn't fun. Also.......Rock Climb and overworld Defog. Easily taking Flash as worst HMs ever(Okay Defog's good in comp but a field move haha no.).

Also, didn't the HP bars drain absurdly slow in Gen4?

See, i’m in agreement with saying that this Pokémon stuff needs to be talked about. Really, I am.

But the negativity...almost all of the time, is draining.

Yeah, there are things that should be fixed. But there has to be something good that we can talk about.

Anyway, i’d also suggesting sending letters to Nintendo or Game Freak. I realize they it’s more work than posting on a forum, but you gotta consider the fact that some folks are excited for Sword and Shield despite the shortcomings.

Again, I totally get it. As of USUM, I have a completed Pokédex myself. But at some point the talk about Pokémon here goes from understandable to just...whiny sounding.

Get some action going!

Hey, Page 500!

Neat.

Generation 4 in general was slow, even down to Start-of-Battle Transitions.

Overall it's a pretty good Gen, but it had major shortcomings.

HG/SS are my favourite Pokemon games but I'm kinda eh on D/P and Sinnoh as a region - as Shroob said, navigating it was a pain and the much-touted snow route ended up being annoying. I often hear the region being described as 'comfy', but I really didn't feel it - Snowpoint was barren and a load of the routes were covered in obnoxious fog

The bars had this weird "super effective drains it faster, not very drains it slower" thing going on.
Flash was removed from this game (at least from all non-optional Paths) in favor of Defog, which is questionable but interchangable.
I liked the show route as sort of an early victory road.

You got me with the revisits of Mt. Coronet though. If only they'd used the upper level theme on the lower levels it wouldve been forgiven

So I played through and beat Devil May Cry 2 in two days of play.

That game is bad. But to really get the most out of the series and to really appreciate it, I recommend to play it regardless.

Also, the more I play of Devil May Cry, the more happily I would embrace Dante in Smash. I’m still mostly in favor of Resident Evil, but Dante would be an excellent pick as well.

Battles were absolutely horrible in D/P, not just because the bars moved slow, but the animations themselves just took forever, even something as simple as Tackle felt like a daunting task, let alone a longer animation like Flamethrower. That combined with long uninteresting routes in uninteresting environments (Snowpoint the exception) filled with uninteresting trainers made the game an absolute slog for me, Platinum helped a bit, but it's still my least favorite installment in the series. Very subjective of course, I know D/P/P is loved these days, so don't take my opinion for more than it is.

A big part of the reason I loved B/W so much was because everything in that game just felt snappy, from the menus to getting into battle to the animations, it's the best any Pokémon game has felt imo, and coming off of Gen 4 it was an absolute godsend.

This set is pretty cool!
Although it is true that I will likely try to pick it on a discount.

Just in time to post in 500, anyways I hope the SwSh **** gets solved. Patches would be nice and at least it would leave room to build up in the future.

You see, I loved dppt.
The critisism you give it is something I hear a lot and I can't see to agree with.
Which is an issue since I feel that slow, boring game in Gold/Silver/HGSS, which is obviously the most praised entry in the series but I hate it for feeling slow and boring.

I find it interesting how much opinions on what games "feel slow" differ
