So, I decided to redo the Smash Ultimate cover art, but with characters revealed afterwards and DLC. Decided to include unique characters, not include echoes, and shift some around/replace when I felt it was necessary--lots of hard choices. This is pretty rough, so I'm using this as a first draft and will continue with it until the last DLC character is revealed.

Was hard tracking down the renders for the mural artworks, so credit to TylerZM and HighCaliber. Couldn't find any for the newest characters, so had to do Banjo & Kazooie and Hero myself (I'm terrible at photo editing, so they're rough around the edges)--also meant the final cover is much smaller as it was dependent on the resolution used for the mural on the website.

X/Y - "There's hardly any new Pokemon. All they did was make a bunch of lame redesigns and call them Mega Evolutions. Might skip this game."
Sun/Moon - "Why are they making another 3DS game when the NX is being released soon! The 3DS is dead! Might skip this game."
Sword/Shield - "They aren't bringing back every Pokemon! That's so lame! Might skip this game."

Then a new trailer gets released, we see more of the story, everyone eats it up, and then no one can sit still because they're so excited for the game they said they wouldn't buy five months ago.

I think comparing XY/SM/USUM to the current situation doesn't apply here.
We reached a point where even the commonly quiet japanese players are just as furious as the rest of the world.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I would have been entirely down for a new Pokemon that straight up dropped all of the past Pokemon, but set out to be a genuinely new and well polished experience with new mechanics and a better world to explore. Make like a solid new 200 Pokemon, bring in some new types, break from as much of the original structure as possible, polish those graphics to make the HD Pokemon people have dreamed of in a brand new and original experience. I would have preferred something like that to the current half measure we're seeing.

Or at the very damn least, leave as much of Generation 1 behind, because I'm getting real damn tired of the Pokemon from that generation dominating everything. We just had another Gen 1 reimagining for Christ's Sake...

I'll reserve my judgement as best as I can until I see every Pokemon included in Sword and Shield. The current lineup looks promising, and that's just what we've seen so far.

I won't be dissatisfied at all if we get 400-500+ Pokemon (actual Pokemon, not forms). Give me 300-400 and I'll be a little disappointed, but content.

Most of them, yes.

I'd really like to see Zoroark and Lycanroc among a few other newer Pokemon, but I'm not worried just yet.

Honestly this controversy is for the best as Pokemon has been pulling this for the longest time with Masuda actively dismissing old fans by going "Well we felt there are more people who don't care about the battle frontier than people who would care". I don't even have faith we'd get a Sinnoh remakes with trainer customization or the Platinum content. They're still likely going to sell like15 million in a week

I dunno about Spiritomb, but Magnemite has been in every single dex except the one that went out of it’s way to exclude older Pokémon.

Charizard is in.
Venusaur is probably in, since Zard is.
Sableye is up in the air.
Absol is up in the air, but I think he has a good shot of making it.
Sceptile probably depends on if they want to bring all starters or not.
Type: Null and Silvally are almost certainly out, unless they decide to bring back all legendaries or something (although even then those two hardly constitute as legendaries).


...That's still a lot of mega evolutions I'm going to miss though. I'm almost miffed by the removal of mega evolutions as I am of the normal dex.

Z-moves can stay gone, though. Good riddance I say.

I honestly kind of agree.

I do think Gamefreak probably needs to make some potentially big changes. I just wish the fandom wasn't tearing itself apart over this.

I've lost almost all hope for my top two favorites being in the game.

Maybe Qwilfish can get lucky since it's basically a sphere, but Sawsbuck seems like a no hoper.
