Eh, I have a bit more hope for Terry Bogard, even if he is a bit unlikely as of right now.

Why did I forget about her? Let's go with this.
Damn, AND Terry Bogard? That's another clean choice. I mean, I got Mega Man and Ridley, so everyone else is a bonus but there's a lot of good choices.

Well. I have something to say anyway cause I did read it. I don’t just want Crash. I feel he makes more sense from the standpoint of a game designer.

Also. The only think that can prove me wrong is the characters being revealed or the developers of either series pulling a Travis.

That final fight with him is NOT the easiest fight in the game. He moves too fast for you to even get a hit in. You just get endlessly juggled.
I’ll bite, because i’m curious.

How would you describe why Crash makes more sense?

Ok so I’m fully convinced that the Galeem/Dharkon effects on the characters shown off in Hero’s trailer is like... a way of making your own World of Light AU or something, especially with the DLC characters

don’t mind me im just tiredposting(TM)

I want Doomguy cuz we just got a green guy who uses a sword so now we need a green guy who uses a gun and then a green guy who boxes to complete the trinity.

That would be cool; we could place Grunty under Dharkon's control, assuming she gets a boss battle, which seems likely because the scene that shows her in B-K's trailer shows the bridge being very long, like the typical boss stage with walk-offs; and right afterwards, showing Banjo from behind while having the bridge still intact, it kinda seems like an in-engine cutscene. I guess Grunty could just be a cameo, though, but it kinda feels like teasing, plus most scenes of the stage show the bridge is missing.

and of course it'd be Super Smash Maker allowing us to make different enemy stages, I just wanted to talk about what I noticed about Grunty.

I know he’s not heavily requested but I don’t think he’s that unlikely all things considered. But yeah I’d like to see him and Hayabusa make the cut.

Best thing about a potential new Capcom rep is that I pretty much like them all. So I win with any new Capcom character.

Is Doomguy being related to B.J and Keen still in the lore, or what that patched out?

It’s that balancing stuff I was talking about before. Combined with the N Sane trilogy on Switch likely allowing use of assets and the fact that 90’s mascot platformers are nostalgicly profitable right now.
Hm. I'll respond to each of these independently.

1) The "balancing" of series hasn't been an issue that actually affects the game. It's more of a personal gripe, which is simply up to opinion. This simply doesn't make any character more or less likely. I specifically went over much of this here: https://smashboards.com/threads/temporary-ultimate-social-thread.484266/page-425#post-23396284

2) The "use of assets" actually isn't that simple, and the Smash dev team typically makes their own models of characters. But it just isn't as simple as taking assets from the N.Sane trilogy and moving it to Smash. It's more than that. However, I'm not an expert on that sort of stuff. All I can say is that in my memory, it's just not that simple.

3) This is probably your strongest point, but I don't think the profit you're citing is all that important when it comes to Smash character inclusion. The only real "90's mascot platformers" that I know of that have been re-released are Crash and Spyro. It's not as if it's an industry-wide phenomenon that took the world by storm. It's a re-release of two incredibly solid series that people have nostalgia for.

Frankly, my friend, I think the stronger points for Crash would be what he can do as opposed to reasons that don't really do much relating to Smash. After all, we play Smash Bros., so what the characters are capable of doing is arguably the most important trait of all. Crash Bandicoot on his own is still Crash Bandicoot, a 90's icon in his own right. But it's more convincing to show why the pick is superior, rather than tell, if that makes sense.

I appreciate you sharing your reasons! It's helpful to know where you're coming from.

While I may disagree and think that Capcom is getting a pick, I happen to agree that I can absolutely see Dark Souls getting a playable character.

I'm more than satisfied with this roster, but if we're only getting third party mascots from unrepresented series, Crash would be my next pick.

But I'm pretty confident the last two will be from Capcom and Namco. I'm open to being surprised though.

Remember that Jill Valentine moveset I made awhile back? Well, I'm scrapping that. It's boring, and not creative enough.

I believe Godzillathewonderdog Godzillathewonderdog mentioned it earlier, but after seeing the Hero moveset, I think it's potentially possible for Sakurai and the dev team to implement a moveset for a Resident Evil pick (I think it's between Leon, Chris, and Jill) where they have their own inventory they can select and use. It's almost like a briefcase with weapons, and items like Green/Blue/Red Herbs.

Basically, let's use Leon as an example (starting to think he's the pick tbh). The default moveset starts with a pistol. This pistol has unlimited ammunition, but unlike Joker, Leon has to reload after a certain number of shots. These shots would have more power/knockback than Joker's pistol, and that could just be explained that it's a "real pistol". If he reloads successfully, he can go back to shooting almost instantly. This would take a second or two. However, similar to Ridley taking big damage if he's hit at the start of his fireball attack, if Leon gets hit while reloading, it jams his pistol and takes longer to reload.

This instills the feeling of conservation of equipment, timing, and strategy of Resident Evil.

Something similar could be implemented with the remainder of the moveset, however. As you use other items, they'd be put on either a cooldown, or gone completely. Considering Green Herbs heal, the use of a Green Herb should require a fair amount of time to use, and be in especially limited quantity.

Consider this...Leon is at the center of Battlefield and suplexes Mario. Mario is sent flying off the stage. Leon now has time to use one of his Green Herbs before he's attacked again. This takes a few seconds (maybe a tad shorter than the 1-UP flag item), and heals something like 20% (points, not 20% of the total) of his health.

I'm not sure what other items could be included except for grenades (which would be probably stronger than Snake's grenades...they'd function differently anyway).

This actually seems like a cool idea. I'm not sure what kind of playstyle he'd have, but it's fun to think about.

I sincerely doubt, and hope not, that Sakurai and his team pick a character based on who owns the character.

They'll pick them on their own merits. If the company happens to have a character in already then that makes one part easier for them. That's all there is to it.

Everybody's talking about how the characters they want, meanwhile, I'm just waiting when we get a character who taunts like the example below will attest to.
