The heroes that appear in the final smash are the ones who aren't featured as skins, meaning the smash team had to fully create and model 7 separate charcetrs, all for this one final smash.
It's a nice homage to all of DQ. The third parties are really being treated with love this time around.

I do find it funny people were so quick to turn to disappointment mode after Sakurai saying "One reveal."


Like, I get it, Box Theory definitely taught everyone a lesson but:


Unlike box, the big issue with the "Only one reveal" was always one.simple.issue.


Feb2020 is the deadline, and 4 characters in 8 months wasn't likely when we had at best 2 Nintendo Directs left for the year tops.

It would have basically had to have been that every character was available after their respective Directs to make it work.

The evidence was definitely there.


Gentlepanda pointed out that whoever got revealed was not going to be shadowdropped after E3 due to something that 3.1 said, meaning that the longer said character was pushed back, the less time there was.


These last 4 characters are crunch time.


There basically has to be DLC4 shown off in the September Direct and the final one shown off in the November/December/January Direct to make schedule.

I feel like Geno might be the one true never-ever character. From interviews it sounds like Microsoft and Rare were wholly on-board with Banjo, and while it might not be safe to just assume this Square probably has a lot of other characters they'd rather negotiate for Smash first before Geno would even be considered possible.
Poor Geno fans are stuck with cameos forever I guess

But this is kinda the first time (not counting Let's Go for obvious reasons), that not all Pokemon will be usable in a mainline game (unless I'm missing something).

Ruby and Sapphire.

Because of the huge change in hardware, transferring Pokémon from Gens I and II to Gen III was impossible prohibitively difficult.

Of course, Game Freak used that chance to massively overhaul how the stat system worked at that time, and since it was still early in the franchise people got over it fairly quick.

It’s strange for me

This speculation cycle has been a roller coaster of gut punches for me. I wanted Waluigi and Ashley for the base roster and they got shown as assist trophies. For DLC I wanted Master Chief and Dante but they got disconfirmed. Steve is probably gonna be a mii costume now that Banjo is in. Crash, Doomguy, and Reimu aren't looking likely to get in after the mii costume theory.

He may have gotten Erd---Hero's name wrong.

He may have gotten the reveal date wrong.

He may not get Minecraft content(But it's HIGHLY likely at least with a Mii costume)



But both a 2nd SE rep being Dragon Quest and Banjo that he was "99% sure of" happened.

It really is sad, but, that's what happens when you're a side character in a game owned by a gaming juggernaut with a billion popular IPs that shaped RPGs as we know it.

At least Banjo was the protagonist of his own games, Geno would pretty much be forgotten were in not for us.


K.Rool was in a similar situation but, he's Nintendo's IP, infinitely easier to work with.

A little bummed out that I can not play Banjo and Kazooie at the moment.

I don't think anyone is profiting from banjo and kazooie anymore, certainly not the original developers. It's up to you, but I'd say it's fine to emulate it.

While this may not be correct, given the first three characters, I’m under the assumption that the last two DLC characters will be from popular third party series that haven’t been in Smash before this.

I think this really narrows down the options. If I had to guess right now on who they are, I’d say Hiehachi from Tekken and Doomslayer from Doom.

Other notable options for me would be Sora from Kingdom Hearts, Dante from Devil May Cry, Ryu Hayubasa from Ninja Gaiden, and the Dragonborn from Skyrim.
