Nintendo: Guaranteed to win one award this year
I just don't think it shouldn't count just because it's a remake. It's received almost universal praise, was one of the biggest releases this year, and has differentiated itself enough from the original that it should be judged as it's own thing, rather than just being seen as just the same thing again but prettier.
Smash Ultimate is the best 2019 game to come out in 2018.
Ring Fit Adventure, Luigi's Mansion 3, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Yoshi's Crafted World and one more that I can't remember.

Three Houses got nominated for Best Strategy Game. It was hardly snubbed.
I mean I can't really say I'm surprised. They're both great games but they're not exactly "mainstream" in the eyes of the industry.

Pretty much the only other category it would be reasonably nominated for, but wasn't, was Best Soundtrack. The game wasn't a no-show, and that's what matters most.
Maddening is significantly more challenging and requires much more careful planning. It's not as easy as strapping Stride on someone and cruising to the enemy general.
Now that's what I call challenge.

That'd be hype, but I don't know if Sakurai knew Smash would be a GOTY nominee
