I feel like fantasy can be kind of constraining since there seems to be kind of a strict formula for what goes in fantasy (ex. certain types of recurring races.) But, at the same time, some things in sci-fi are also kind of overly formulaic (such as the whole thing about spaceships and space combat, ect. Plus the fact that (friendly?) alien races seem to be dominated by humanoids.)

When I make up my own characters and worlds, I like an in-between that lets me do whatever I want within some limit of reason (one of these being that I have to consider the societal effects of any particular strange part of worldbuilding.) A lot of the characters also just wear “modern” outfits since that’s my preference in outfit design over either historical-ish outfits or sci-fi outfits.
I just don’t like magic. It feels like a lazy storytelling device. “Why do they have these abilities” “it’s magic”. Why are these monsters evil? “They’re demons”. It’s just boring.

That's incredible generalization when the former applies to scifi too and the latter is subverted all the damn time
My sentiment as well, but at the very least, Magic can be used more "realistically" because it doesn't really have anything tying it to one "type" so to speak, so writers have more creative freedom, outside of Sci-fi tropes.

To be fair, sci-fi settings can be the same.

“Why do they have these abilities” “it’s radiation/chemicals/mutant powers”. Why are these monsters evil? “They’re aliens”.

Plus, there are a lot of (admittedly, not enough) fantasy media which sets strict rules to magic and has a more complex confrontation than "good vs evil". Just look at Earthsea. no, I won't stop shilling Le Guin

I found some official calender artwork on Twitter featuring the Mario crew enjoying the winter season, pretty wholesome:

no, I won't stop shilling my favorite cardgame anime(which honestly is super Sci-Fi, IMO)

Also, for another example, pretty much all of the Percy Jackson series fits this pretty well.

Why was there drama about Mai in the first place? (At least in Twitter

What? Because it’s hypocritical due to Bayonetta inclusion?

alright, it’s one thing to make discussion about, but to make it a (I think) big deal is kind of ridiculous.

Especially since Bayonettas sexual themes are not exactly the core part of her character (Despite it being all around in the games), unlike Mai where her main appeal is her design only.

Bayonetta has freaking Feet Guns, demonic abilities, she can turn into a panther, she can zip left and right.

Her abilities, story and personality is the core part of her character.

If she was fully censored in terms of design, her character wouldn’t be that lost.

Edit: I quickly realized that the Bayonetta thing is a meme. Alright, that’s fine, but still I feel like there’s people who are taking this a bit seriously.

No one exactly gives a **** about Mais moveset anyway, other than people who do like playing her. (Not trying to throw shade, I’m sort of just saying).

It's less the quality of the writing (as pointed out, both can be used as lazy outs) and more just the innate appeal of the premise to me.

Alternate dimensions, mutant monsters, time machines, futuristic aesthetics, etc just get my imagination fired up way more than spells, goblins and old-timey clothing. Obviously generalizing a bit, and lots of things pull from both, but... yeah, never even read/seen Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter and the like. Give me something like Fringe or Jurassic Park any day :p

Speaking of Sci-fi, it really saddens me that we lacked any huge world building of Dragon Balls earth because I guess the writers want to ignore it because they think it’s already explained as “Lol future”.

Which makes me sad because I do wonder where the Anthros from the original come from, why do veggie people exist, what happened to earth before the events of DB, are there any major event that effect its culture, where are the other countries at and how are they doing? I’m trying to find fanfics that have Earth history in Dragon ball but I can’t find much.

Did you not read my post?

“If you are still buying Sword and Shield, I RECOMMEND that you buy a used copy.”

Key word, Recommend. Not “I’m telling you to do this”. I’m not saying “you’re a bad person if you buy new!”, it was nothing more than a suggestion to those who are still excited for the game, but are wary of giving Gamefreak their money.

Sorry, but I really do not appreciate words being put in my mouth.
"I'm not saying you shouldn't buy it new, but if you gonna buy it, you should probably buy it used instead of new"

You do realize that reccomendations are there to tell people on what they should do with their resources, because it implies that it is the best course of action. And the way you worded your post, that being "Highly" recommend it because if you buy it new, you're an enabler isn't a suggestion and guves a more demanding tone if anything.

Yeah, I agree. It makes me sad how the earthlings are so irrelevant in super. Like, Tien used to be cool. Now they're too busy fighting gods or some bs.

Tbf, they were made irrelevant halfway through Z, with like the exception of Krillin.

I mean, they just straight up forgot all about Tien when he got knocked out by Buu.

Chiaotzu got the worst of it. Guy just disappeared after the fight with Nappa. Launch didn't even make it to z just cause Toriyama forgot about her.

I like sci-fi and fantasy though considering I grew up with fantasies of being a wizard like hero and one of the recent animated series I’m conceptualizing is heavily magic focused, you can tell which side I’m leaning more towards...

I honestly don’t know either.

You really don't get it, do you?

She(I'm assuming She for now, correct me if wrong) appears to be annoyed at these borderline fetish images you keep on sharing(I think, anyway. That's the vibe I'm getting from her)
I'm insanely late to this post, but for future reference, if you're not sure of a person's gender, using they/them until further clarification is the best way to go about it. Not saying to lecture, just some advice.

That’s bad sci-fi. Good sci-fi is like Star Trek where they consult actual scientists and write explanations for things that at least make sense. And with aliens, to justify their villainy, good sci fi creates complex cultures and social tradition to explain it.
