real talk, would Pokemon have even been as successful as it was, with anyone other than Pikachu?

It was like the perfect mascot material,

it's both cute and cool at the same time, so it appeals to multiple demographics simultaneously

Clefairy really wouldn't have had that same advantage, I feel

We probably wouldn't have Pichu either, and I imagine they would have picked someone other then Jigglypuff to be a last minute clone because he would look so similar.

Probably cleffa since that's the baby form of clefairy like pichu is to pikachu.

If I constructed two fighters passes, my mythical timeline would consist of a Dope Fighter Pass (DFP) and a Preston Fighter Pass (PFP).

The DFP consists of "heavily extensive research" that catalogs the first and third parties people I know would want. It is entirely based on a selfless desire to see my friends and family get who they want, so then I can selfishly feel good when I will it into existence.

1. Geno - for TerminalMontage and some Geno stans
2. Andy from Advance Wars - for my brother
3. The Bravely Default gang - for Gentlepanda.
4. Phoenix Wright - for Hinata and some evil dictator I know.
5. Resident Evil - for Jones and Staindgrey
6. KOS-MOS - for the cool KOS-MOS stans and so Lesley can get a female character. Plus her design is sick.
7. Dark Souls - so I can watch the internet flip the **** out

The PFP consists of characters I want and anyone who disagrees with me can suck it. Yes, this is smaller than the DFP because I already have like 3 of my most wanted already

1. Bomberman - upgrade that ****
2. Mike Tyson - This would be the Mike Tyson before the criminal allegations. Back when he was an NES icon for being one of the most iconic video game final bosses to date. Plus he pretty much defines guest characters as a concept and how cool they can be.
3. Digimon. Specifically, Omnimon. - I grew up back with the DS and Gamecube games, which were weirdly fun. Plus I love how Digimon is just Pokemon but with ****ing battle-mechs. They make the evolutions more insane and it's a wild charm for a young boy growing up. Anime was pretty widespread too. If they're going to give us Agumon, they better give him an evolution mechanic.

Any single one of these happening now would be a cherry on top. They would all be dope in some way to me.

I think the issue was that the Dex cut was announced during the Treehouse stream, which is aimed for an English speaking audience. Masuda only knows Japanese so he had a translator.
Also does not help that it was the middle of the night in Japan at the time.

I did the same math and only got 7 extra slots? How did they get to that?
