Which do you like better
Digimon or Pokemon?

I personally lean towards Digimon(mainly because of dexit, among Digimon Masters Online being a great game considering how many ****ing company changes it went thru) but on the other hand, Pokemon does have alot of good games, along with a somewhat mediocre anime.

Also of note is that even if Star Wars is big in Japan, it isn't in its neighboring country China. In fact it's so culturally irrelevant there that screenings had mini bios for characters when they first appear, including for Luke Skywalker :yoshi:

Yoshi's two primary colors contrast each other and the human eye catches it. Notice how a lot of movie posters use blue and orange? Same principle. The point is that people don't disregard color when evaluating what character they like, so it's not a big stretch to hear DK not being loved in Japan as much due to his color scheme... :yoshi:
I understood that. But I don’t think it applies here. It’s not like DK has contrasting or clashing colors. That would be disliked no matter the region. This isn’t anything like what Zinith is talking about. This is an entire country not liking a character because he’s a certain color. Same thing happened with Spyro and Rayman but for purple. And like.... I just don’t get it. I don’t think anywhere else in the world that the sales of a franchise would be implemented by the color of the main character alone. Design? Sure. If they’re designed poorly and have clashing colors then that’s gonna be hard on the eyes. Then that might cause some problems, but the games still live or die by the gameplay, and story, and world. Never something as simple as “they’re X color”. That’s just.... a really freakin shallow way of looking at content. To decide on your purchase by something that surface level and superfluous.

Only thing China’s ever done right.

DKC is not that unpopular in Japan. It's just comparatively less big.

Also, nobody said they only dislike it because of Donkey Kong's color scheme. A more plausible explanation would be DKC having heavy Western cartoon inspirations and therefore resonating with Japan less.

By the way, "an entire country" part is seriously overgeneralizing.

hoo boy, the thread is really slow this morning(or it may just be this high school's ****ty wifi jamming, I dunno)

So um, anything interesting come up?
I did see a Sword and Shield trailer uploaded this morning, but omg it looked like Nintendo of America just subbed it, and didn't change anything else.

I want to add that Star Wars is actually quite popular in Japan. I went to see Force Awakens on release day with a group of friends who were well versed in the original movies and the prequels. The theater was also jam packed that day.

Also, during New Year's Eve, a variety show is usually held in Tokyo and broadcasted across the country. In the 2015 show, Darth Vader and BB8 showed up. Also, this J-Pop boy band went on stage dressed as Jedis with lightsabers.
Heck, even Sakurai himself is a fan.

He's one of the few people on the planet to enjoy Episode 1

I pretty much agree with the old "Pokémon for games, Digimon for anime" opinion.

Pokémon's games might have declined over the course of this decade imo, but it still managed to be consistently great for the first 5 generations, in its first 15 years D/P/P is the only installment that's below average imo, which is a super impressive record. Meanwhile Digimon has always been extremely inconsistent on the video game front, you just need to look at the Digimon World series to see how much it's struggled to find an identity. Digimon World 1 is some sort of virtual pet/adventure game hybrid, Digimon World 2 is a 3v3 turn-based RPG, Digimon World 3 is a 1v1 turn-based RPG, and Digimon World 4 is an action/hack and slash game. Most of the things it's tried since have also been of varying quality, ranging from dumpster fire to perfectly fine, but never really great.

On the anime front however it's different. Pokémon has always been really safe and by the numbers in this regard, where as Digimon took a lot more risks, cared more about character development and world building, and has kept on innovating on itself and tried new things. I don't think Digimon has had a great anime in a while tbh, but the ones it did produce in the past still helps put it above Pokémon in this regard, which has always just been consistently average at best.

As for overall quality, Pokémon was far superior over the course of the mid-late 2000s, as well as the early 2010s, and I think it probably still is better, but not by much anymore, it could take as little as Digimon Survive or the Last Evolution movie being good to tip the balance for me. It's the closest the two have been in terms of quality since that initial duel in the late 90s and early 2000s imo, although it's at a lower level than back then.

Just wait a few days until the next direct or something if you're ho_ing for leak - either they'll know by then, or Nintendo does another uh-oh

Though I'd kind of _refer it not to leak at that stage, as there's little _oint when we're gonna know a few days later

This is always how I felt too, but I think recently I've kind of flipped on the game side. Cyber Sleuth feels like it has literally everything that I've always wanted in a Pokemon game, while Pokemon is stagnating and getting stale, and if Survive ends up being as good and as interesting as it seems to be, that will definitely solidify Digimon as better.

Also, Agumon is a better mascot than Pikachu.

At this point it’s either Augumon or Heihachi/Kazuya/Jin. It could be something big like Dark Souls or Doom. But at this point I’m pretty sure that the Hero-Banjo 1-2-Punch was this passes “Big Thing”. And at this point it’s all about putting a nice little bow on it. Saving characters like DoomSlayer, Crash, and Ryu Hayabusa (maybe even Reimu) to be the “big thing” in the next batch or two.

Halloween’s in a week.

Don’t forget to check your drugs when trick or treating, some people hide candy in them.
I am more worried that people would be hiding copies of Fire Emblem Fates in the candy
