I used to be optimistic. I don’t know what happened.

Imagine thinking Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, Typhlosion, Feraligatr, Sceptile, Blaziken, Swampert, Torterra, Infernape, Empoleon, Serperior, Samurott, Chesnaught, Greninja, and Incineroar suck.

Anyone who does can’t be associated with me.

I don’t really like any of them. They’re either ugly, uninspired, boring, or bring up bad memories.

Didn't dig Samurott after his previous forms. He should have just been a bipedal samurai.

I think making it a quad helped it stand out more. Having another biped would've been predictable and less creative.

At the very least, I feel like it was handled better than the Tepig line.

Really? I think giving it a needle sword would have made it stand out from other starters. You wouldn't really see starter evos with weapons until around Gen 6 and the Delphox line, and that's just a wand.

I dunno. Maybe it's just because I think it looks cool. It makes a huge jump in design from Dewott to its final form, which I'm not really a fan of.

Still, I feel like making a biped samurai fighter would've been really predictable. It would be like them making the box Legendary for Sword some type of humanoid swordfighter. It might look good, but it's not really breaking any creative boundaries. Making some type of unicorn-like sword Legendary would've been better, but it's still something they sort of already tapped in through Keldeo.

At first I was surprised by Samurott's jump in design, but after looking at its concept I grew to enjoy it. It's based on a shogun, which are typically bulky due to their armor, sea lions are similarly bulky so combining the two did help in bringing out those elements.

Predictability isn't always a bad thing. Don't flip over what makes the original design likable, I say. Otherwise you get a Hoothoot (clock owl Pokemon with one leg) -> Noctowl (generic owl) situation.

Who remembers how bad ass the plots of Pokemon Colosseum and Pokemon XD were? Those games were a pretty sick change of pace from the mainline series games. Cipher was really on some **** ****. You had Espeon and Umbreon in Colosseum, and your choice of Eeveelution in XD. Really a shame in my eyes that Genius Sonority will never make another installment in the Orre Region.

I love all three Gen 4 Starter Evolutions. Tortimer Torterra leaves a little something to be desired, but to me Diamond & Pearl was prime design era.
