I don't understand that way of thinking, having a fantasy story set in the future, doesn't mean traditional sci-fi stories will be gone forever. Star Wars existing didn't kill Star Trek, it probably made it stronger now that I think about it.

It would be boring if everything had to stick to specific genre tropes and never get to bleed outside the box.
I mean, It kind of is. Star Trek isn't exactly popular anymore. And I haven't seen a single sci-fi story that didn't bring in magic and demons for the past decade of my life. At least in gaming. Movies are a bit better about this. But they're still way scarcer than they should be.
I'd post it but I'm not sure if it's safe for smashboards, the character is called "Sepia Belmont"
Oh my....

I've seen porn characters with smaller racks.
it's gonna be the equivalent of how they portrayed the "far distant future of 2015" in Back to the Future

still waiting on those hoverboards

Superhero media is a playground where all media tropes can co-exist. It's the exception that proves the rule.
I mean, I'd sooner point at say, Final Fantasy than superhero media. Breaking out of the box is what helped make some media truly stand out, look at Evangelion for example, it's drastically different from most other mech anime at the time and that unique-at-the-time style made it stand out because it didn't merely do the typical mech anime ****. Or see MHA, MHA handles shonen tropes VERY differently to most of the stuff in the anime industry these days, including a tournament arc that refuses to do the typical tournament arc ****.

I hate that phrase "the exception that proves the rule," it doesn't make sense. If there's an "exception" then the rule is wrong, it always comes off as basically "true, but that doesn't count because it goes against my point."

Snake what the hell are you talking about, Star Trek is STILL popular and it's STILL getting new stuff. I never saw anything related to Star Trek yet even I caught wind of the movies, the games, the Netflix one, etc

What about Doom, a universe set in the far future and packed to the brim with sci-fi tropes, but the main conflict is centered around Hell and demons?

What? Almost all of Star Trek has come out since Star Wars has existed, the only thing of note that came out before 1977 was the original series. Since Star Wars came out there has been The Next Generation and all of the other shows, the movie sequels, then more recently the JJ Abrams trilogy, Discovery, and the upcoming Picard series.
Also, what about Metroid, Star Fox, Halo, Mass Effect, Cyberpunk 2077, Metal Gear? There's a ****load of sci-fi games.

So whose looking forward to the MediEvil remake!
It's piqued my interest.

I played the original on the PS3 and enjoyed it, even though certain aspects of it felt pretty dated (the controls and somewhat cryptic nature of a few levels come to mind). Fun game despite all the little blemishes here and there, though.

It even inspired me to play Sir Daniel back when PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale was active.

I don't see why a creative medium needs such strict rules anyway. Successful blending of magic and technology have been done countless times.
In my opinion, magic's existence makes science less interesting and less important. Why bother creating a vast and different alien culture to explain why the "monsters" are bad when you can just say "they're demons from hell". Why create and describe intricate manuals and rules for how this gadget works or why that planet's atmosphere is that way when you can just say "it's magic". It's boring.

But what about people who like the box. If everyone's thinking outside of the box, then nobody is thinking inside the box and those people's desires aren't met. Sure, you can be great by revolutionizing a medium and changing how everyone thinks about it, or you can be great by taking an established formula/rule set and being the best damn example of it you can be.

I mean... it's true. The exception that proves the rule highlights the very specific and unlikely circumstances that are required for the rule to be broken, and why they should generally be stuck to unless you're incredibly skilled.

Wait what. There's a netflix show? I know about the stuff on CBS All-Access (which has an extremely limited audience as a subscription streaming service). But I was under the impression that the last few movies bombed and that the franchise was being put to rest outside of that extremely specialized content.

Also, can we please get another Trek show/movie set in the far future. I'm sick of original series prequels with less advanced technology.

Doom also said stories in game are like stories in porn. They're not exactly following the rules to begin with.

All franchises that have notoriously struggled to be top sellers or are dead franchises.

Snake, there's still stuff that's in the box everywhere. It's ok for people to experiment as it won't suddenly make everything else disappear. And Discovery is apparantly not a Netflix series outside of my country. Either way, girl, you're doing the "If it's not exactly what I want it's bad" thing again, may I suggest taking a break and relaxing a bit?

You never said anything about sci-fi games being popular, you said they were "scarce," which I don't think is true.

I don't see why it shouldn't count be cause of that, it's still a series that meshes both sci-fi and religious/supernatural elements together. Also Doom 2016 had a ton of lore and story, it's just not upfront about it.
