I'm assuming you've never played the series before
Pros:
Memorable cast of characters
Multiple routes with their own story, meaning tons of replay value
Fairly beginner friendly on normal
Great soundtrack
Cons:
The first half of the game will always make you do the same maps no matter what route, which can harm the pacing if you're wanting to do multiple routes. This is more noticeable when each route takes at least 40 hours.
There are a ton of factors you have to keep track of if you wanna take full advantage of what's given to you. That's not really beginner friendly, but normal mode lets you grind to make up for it. Either way, this moves onto my next point.
Difficulty is severely unbalanced after like Chapter 5. Game gets way too easy and mind numbing if you're the type who wants a challenge, especially on normal mode.
Graphically, it just doesn't look good when you compare it to other games on the Switch.
I'd honestly recommend starting with Awakening if you wanna get into the series, but many people have had Three Houses be their first FE game and have enjoyed it.
If that's the case, then this might not be for you.
You can give it a shot if you'd like, but if you didn't like Awakening, then there's a good chance you might not like this either. I'd recommend waiting and buying the game when it's cheaper or buy it used.
So for context, a fairly critical line of dialogue got changed in the Three Houses update likely in an attempt to appease the Australian ratings board. Like, this isn't some random line either, it's one of the single most crucial lines when it comes to understanding a certain character's behavior and backstory, as well as the atrocities committed by Fódlan's nobility.
They changed Byleth and Bernadetta's B Support so that Bernie no longer mentions she was told by her father to be quiet and submissive, or that she was literally kept locked alone in isolation. It only leaves in the part about her being strapped to a chair for extended periods of time, making no mention of the solitary confinement.
That really sucks because now the entire context of why she hides away in her room and why she's as psychologically damaged as she is was basically chopped in half.
Australia's ratings board is notoriously strict on depictions of domestic abuse, but this is one of the character's most crucial supports when it comes to understanding her. Plus it's not like Fire Emblem has strayed from difficult topics in the past. Not even including the Japan-only games here, Sacred Stones had implied necrophilia and a major protagonist of Shadows of Valentia's birth is implied to have been the product of ****.
Like for real, the game's Rated T. It's not meant for young children anyway, so it shouldn't be discouraged from talking about difficult topics. Very disappointed.
Platformers are a niche genre and any platformer that's not called Banjo-Kazooie, Glover, or Bubsy 3D is even more obscure. I don't know why insecure Mario fans are so desperate to act like Red-Cap Stalin is a household name and that anyone who doesn't know who he is is ignorant.
It's always so lame when people hold up a character for their "historical value" or because they represent a particular company or genre. They'll take the boring, generic character over the interesting or popular one just for the sake of a roster that they think is "correct".
The harsh reality is that Nintendo is dead, Super Mario has never been mainstream, and unless you are a platformer junkie or Japanese, the only reason you might have even heard of Mario is because of memes.
Look man I'm on the same forum that criticizes Dragon Quest for not being popular while simultaneously wanting Geno. You think this would be the strangest thing I've seen?
Anyone else excited for Link's Awakening next week?
I wasn't on board with it at first glance but I've really grown quite fond of the art style now, and from the few tracks that I've heard, it seems like the music will be quite the treat to the ears. My big concern is the amount of content you get for the price. $60 seems to be a little steep for a game like this...

This is stupid to do because of how important this scene is.
But it’s even stupider because this is the 20th Centuary and the game has sold millions.
Pretty much everyone has seen it and if they somehow didn’t we have YouTube to look it up.
So censoring it is ultimately pointless and with it already being out in the world, I can’t fathom how dumb they have to be to think this makes sense

I'm looking forward to it - I've never played (or at least never gotten far in) Link's Awakening before, so the price isn't an issue for me. (it's like a whole new game, from my perspective) I'm looking forward to seeing what it's like, the new art style looks great, and hopefully I'll be able to pick up the Snake and Squirtle amiibos when I'm getting the game! (for whatever reason, nowhere nearby me seems to be taking pre-orders for amiibos, so it's down to blind luck)
I don't think Mario is gonna be in Smash but not because of "muh irrelevancy", but just because... he's boring. What can he do? Jump? The entire Smash roster can do that and more
"Oh but he has power ups!" that wouldn't translate well at all in Smash because he loses them if he ever gets damaged. Would be SO much fun to have as a mechanic, right? /s
Personally, I think Sakurai should go for a more interesting Super Mario rep, such as Luigi. Luigi would be way more unique than Mario and yeah, the series is called "Super Mario" but Sakurai added Link before Zelda and the series is named after her so anything can happen.
So was Shadow Dragon and New Mystery of the Fire Emblem, they're both counted as 11 and 12 respectively. Furthermore, the writing was expanded upon so much it may as well be a whole new title.
I know how the numbering works, my point is that SoV wasn't a major release nor a fully new game so it couldn't be used as indicative of how they would handle their writing.

That was quite an interesting finale too. Glomgold saving the day... and of course taking credit for it, F.O.W.L. coming back, the Manager of Funso's being a bad guy... wow. I wonder if Magica De Spell is going to be against them too. I don't think she'll turn good, though Glomgold might? He did legitimately help save the world. Plus, Negaduck will be back. Maybe he'll be leading a teem of villains. Since he's the original Darkwing as well, him teaming up with Magica would be a fun mythology gag, to some degree.
