I bet we would get Erdrick in Smash and decided to let the people of the boards decide what I'd bet on. Any suggestion with more than 10 likes I'd take on. Former user onereasonandone said that if I lost "i die" or something non-serious like that. I took it 100% serious and bet my account. @Bolderousness, Hinata , @ShotoStar: Endgame, and @ryumo the Zekenator joined in and we became the Erdrick crusaders. Former uses onereasonandone and ShinyLegendary bet against us, with onereason betting his account and Shiny betting less.

Probably because he was less of a priority over all the other characters we’ve gotten over the years.

Maybe Sakurai doesn't believe in Geno selling. I mean, we're just talking how easy it is to get character rights. And a Nintendo character owned by Square Enix that has nothing being done with them is definitely not harder to get than Sora.

At the very least Banjo & Kazooie are the main characters of a franchise people still remember fondly and are from a company that was considered Nintendo's golden boy back in the day. Fan demand was obviously a big part of why they were included but it's not the only thing they had.

They'd probably want like Mickey Mouse or some ****.

And if Disney offers you Mickey Mouse you take him.

More fighters, less problems. That's what I say. The spirits argument can get thrown into the trash and it's not like Sakurai can't just make Geno's fighter render his personal spirit. It's like Ura's Advance Wars argument but way more applicable to Geno.

Banjo-Kazooie (the game) had an impact on a huge genre and Banjo & Kazooie are the main characters of that game. They’re also a symbol of a bygone era of 3D platformers in the 90’s, and of a company that was constantly pushing the boundaries of gaming, specifically within Nintendo. Even before they were revealed for Smash, you could find countless retrospective videos on their games and the landscape of gaming they helped define.

Geno is a side character in a pretty good RPG Mario spin-off. I honestly think most for the people who have heard of Geno nowadays have only heard of him in regards to being wanted for Smash. That’s the first time I’ve heard of him at least.

Disney is the most powerful and in control of their brand company in the world. They rule with an iron fist and don't play ball easily. It's exactly why they're in the current Spider-Man situation they're in now with Sony. They want what they want and they're hard to break.

Sakurai's pulled off a lot of amazing things, but I think this one? This one might be his limit.

Dissida was to be a Kingdom Hearts fighting game. Disney told Square no sir/ma'am. Hence it became a Final Fantasy fighting game instead.

Yeah but it’s why he’s popular in the first place, why people have been clamoring for a new game for YEARS, and why people wanted him in Smash.

Banjo-Kazooie in Smash wasn’t just a matter of “those characters I really like are in Smash.”
It was a matter of “Banjo & Kazooie are ****ing back.”

Geno wouldn’t be the same. Geno isn’t a beloved, influential gaming icon because Super Mario RPG revolutionized RPGs (it didn’t. It was just one of Square’s many fantastic RPGs from the 90’s).
He’s a Smash community icon because one guy in 2008 said “Hey wouldn’t it be cool if that guy from Mario RPG was in Brawl,” and it slowly inflated to the point where people genuinely believe he’s more of a household name than Sora.

Kung Lao's quest to avenge his ancestor is cut short by Goro having a mental breakdown, because of some teen stealing from his head cave, and being unable to compete in a Mortal Kombat tournament ever again, leaving Lao with no closure whatsoever for the rest of his life. With how NRS treated him in MK11, this wouldn't even be out of line tbh.

I question wether Akechi would win against Goro, even in his own head. But yeah, that would be very on brand for NRS.

Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi solely exist because Nintendo embraced and fully explored the RPG concept with Mario BECAUSE of Legend of the Seven Stars success.

In a way while yes Paper Mario might better represent the RPG series better? Geno can kind of serve as a grandfather figure for all Mario RPGs because of his immense lasting popularity due to Smash.

A lot of them haven’t aged well. That’s just what happens when publishers pump out games to fit whatever genre is hip at the time. We’ll look back in 10 or so years and find only a handful of really memorable shooters or “open-world story-driven Adventure game with RPG elements wow”.

Some of those platformers still hold up though. Super Mario 64, Banjo-Kazooie, and probably a few others I haven’t played.

Oh, I understand how it was impactful on the Mario brand, and that the early Mario & Luigi and Paper Mario games I love wouldn’t exist because of it.
I’m just talking gaming as a whole, not just Mario.

And yeah, if they need to have a Mario RPG rep, it’s gotta be Paper Mario. #RemasterSuperMarioRPG never trended on Twitter. For everyone who wants a Super Mario RPG 2, there’s a million people want a proper Paper Mario 3.
