Honestly, the most anime character we have in Smash is Joker, and that was a delibirate design choice as Persona is noted for it's flashy anime style. Like, put him against Marth, and you can tell Joker isn't a FE character

But since they both have sharp weapons, they're anime swordfighters that look the same.

But honestly, "X With A Hat" argument is far worse. Idk what that argument is even supposed to mean. Like they have a hat. Cool.

Coincidentally, I’m not a huge fan of icing either. You gotta have a thin as **** later of it or else it overwhelms the cake with nothing but pure horrid sugar. I feel there’s a kind of metaphor there.

Okay but Americans like comedy too. Probably more than action. And there’s a sizable market for more dramatic shows too. dramas are pretty popular, it’s why my mom watches shows like Grey’s Anatomy. My point is, the market for these kinds of shows in America is far from nonexistent. And if they want this stereotype removed than maybe they should try to actually show us some of these things. Like Miyazaki’s movies. Those were doing great over here, thanks to Disney they were getting full theatrical releases.
Yes, and? I'm not defending an overload of animation.

And yes, but action sells especially well. It's part of the reason why the MCU has done so well. And yes, the market is more non-existent, so we agree there. It's like you're trying to argue against me when we half-agree on the market point.

Geez, you're stubborn.

Not sure what you're implying. Are you saying too much animation is a bad thing? Can you give examples of what you're saying too? It'd make things easier for everybody here.
The metaphor was that that particular animation style is the icing. And that too much of it can be bad.......

Ok. I said it was a metaphor. I didn’t say it was a good one.

No. I’m saying the marked is FAR FROM Nonexistent. Meaning it exists and is quite large. So other non-action anime should be popular here if they exist. Which they clearly do so.... I’m not sure what I’m arguing about either anymore.

Are you sure? I remember Soejima stating multiple times that he intentionally avoids anime/manga styled designs in Persona, to make characters look more realistic.

Personally, I'd say Pokemon Trainers fits the classic anime style better due to how they are proportioned. Or Heroes.

Anything in excess is probably not a good thing.

Then if you're not sure about what you're arguing anymore: then drop it. TBH I was actually enjoying the debate combat quite a bit, but now it's devolved once more.

Today, I learned JoJo and Sailor Moon are too similar because they are both action animes.

OOOOOOH yeah, the ending of the anime is one of the only things I dislike about the show.

If it makes you feel any better, the manga has a far better ending. You could read that if you haven't yet.
I was actually told by a friend who is a huge fan that the manga's ending is different, but still bad in its own way. Maybe I'll check it out some time though.

Like for real, how can anyone take even a cursory look at Marth and Shulk and think they're from the same game?

uhhhhhhh

Fire Emblem got more sci-fi as time passes and Shulk is like the protagonist of the newest FE who take places in SPACE.

....I tried I swear.

So we know that some DLC choices were picks by Sakurai himself both:ultjoker:and Terry are proof of that. If we were to get more picks from Sakurai himself what other characters would benefit from this? I think Steve is one that comes to mind. Sakurai's a fan of and loves Minecraft having played it and given Nintendo's and Microsoft's buddy-buddy relationship.

Here's a thought, if Byleth or Edelgard get in will they keep their distinctive eye style, or will they get a slight redesign to look more like the other Fire Emblem characters?

Animation is still seen as "for kids" by the majority of the West, which is why there are so few western animations and most are marketed towards children. Couple that with the skepticism towards foreign productions(or rather, non-US productions for other countries) add a bit of racism that leads to All Anime Is Naughty Tentacles and you end up with a type media that is seen as being made for horny manchildren(doesn't help that it is a part of the consumer base but outside of very specific shows, it isn't made for them)

Anime and manga have been treated better in recent years but the general view towards it remains pretty much the same, all that has really changed is that companies realized they could profit off nerd culture.

Still wish animation could be treated more seriously in the west. I love the "kids cartoons" variety because I'm a mature adult who realizes I can watch whatever the **** I want but I'd like more variety and I hate how "adult cartoons" are just your variation of Family Guy crude humor most of the time.
now for the shill
If you want recommendations of good western animation, watch Avatar or Castlevania for some fantasy with each of them providing a lighter or darker tone in general; for drama, you always have Bojack Horseman which is a whole trip in of itself; and an obligatory Steven Universe shill of course but I believe most know about it already.
But if you really just wanna relax, I beg of you to watch Hilda. I can't stress ya'll enough how much this show helped me when I was dealing with so much stress from college. It's fun, cute, lighthearted and an urban fantasy setting based off a mythology you'll barely see in fiction.

I have a feeling I should pick Far From Home on Blu-Ray before it is too late.

Right now the publishing rights for that movie will be incredibly messed... and will bring a lot of bad stuff at a long term.

Maybe I should get myself legally registered as “Anime-Blind”. Like being faceblind. Only instead of thinking faces all look the same, I think anime all looks the same.

I’m not.
You can't honestly look at their official art and say that.

Especially in Smash they look like they were designed by the same man for different franchises.
Because Smash tries to uniform character designsto make them fit each other better. That's why Banjo-Kazooie look like Mario characters or Bayo isn't much more realistic than Palutena.

But I guess i’ll Shut up now because this opinion is apparently invalid.
Maybe your opinions would be valid if they were actually informed and well-put.

Same game? No. Same art style? Definitely.
Wow, look at these absolutely identical artstyles.

They're just so similar!

You know, if you ignore the color pallets. And the style of clothing. And the choice of weapon. And well, everything else.

It's not invalid, it's just plainly wrong, Marth look like he come from a medieval-inspired age thanks to what he wear & how simple his sword look. Meanwhile, Shulk design look more modern all around, with the jacket/hoodie & The Monado being key element that show that he can't come from a world like the Marth come from.

If you can't tell the difference, then you need do serious research about what character design is.

I know you are having some kind of big conversation regarding the artstyles of many Smash series, and maybe some don’t have the calm right now to read other stuff.

But I just admire Akira Toriyama for bringing so much of his DQ work into Smash for the spirit selection. So far he has brought to the game the biggest selection of them from all the DLC series, due to the recent addition of the DQXI S demo spirit.

I honestly feel that Toriyama does indeed really love to have a part in Super Smash Bros, and I do feel that if Chrono Trigger happened to get representation we would be seeing even more of his artwork from that game in the spirit board.
