this is my final gift to you. square enix has demanded i close out all of my bank accounts and have them take my house in order to purchase the rights to give you all both geno and 2 midis of forest maze i made in a free music app on my phone. never ask me for anything again.

I think a second pass will happen.

Bonus character? No.
If they somehow decided to do this, then I would expect maybe a popular character that be turned into an echo.

I think the Bonus Fighter idea is put out there because some folks feel their pick isn’t getting in through the Fighter Pass. Therefore, their path is through a Bonus.

“Season 2: Challenger Pack 1: Edelgard”

Sure, salt would flow because, “BAH ANIME WAIFU EMBLEM”, but the concept of a 2nd Pass would be too hype for folks to care I think.

(Edelgard is best House leader and would be sick in Smash, fight me in an arena, cowards!)

Honestly I don't get why people think a bonus character is happening. To me, it's either another pass or nothing, I doubt they continue development for only one extra character.

If we were dealing with any company other than Nintendo, I'd say a season 2 would be a certainty (I mean hell, Tekken/Street Fighter are on season 3/4). But, because it's Nintendo, I don't feel comfortable being so certain. What I will say is that I think there's a decent chance for one, for a few reasons.

I like the idea of the first character for a second pass being a potentially controversial one to offset any negative reception. Would people really be mad at Edelgard if her announcement also meant a second season was coming?

It's interesting to consider.

It's so they can make the "Final Pass" where it's the bonus character and then all of the mii costumes because WHY THE **** DIDN'T THEY BUNDLE THE MII COSTUMES IN, I DON'T WANNA SPEND 75 CENTS INDIVIDUALLY

Firstly, I think any hypothetical “bonus character” is nothing other than a 1st party character that Nintendo doesn’t have to license or pay to acquire. The bonus Fighter would probably be like Piranha Plant, as in they’d be free.

As I said before, I’m not sold on a 2nd Pass. After seeing some discussion on social media, it would appear that there are signs pointing to a reduced budget which would, to me, imply that it’s a 5 pick Pass, and nothing more.

I would love a 2nd Pass though. As Fire Emblem Three Houses has become a game I hold in high regard, I’d love to see Edelgard. Dante. Lloyd Irving. However, it is probable to me that they simply won’t happen.

It sucks. But folks should brace themselves for the potential that not all of their picks will make it. Ultimate will be finished at some point.

Yes, it sucks that you can't carry over every Pokemon. We've established that. But is it enough to warrant slashing the price down to $50 or $40 because of it? No, not really. We're getting a entirely new region, with new characters, new Pokemon, a new story, new music, and graphics that are, while not very impressive compared to other modern games, still a huge improvement from the previous set of games, Sun and Moon.

The kind of argument you're making is better-suited for something like the Let's Go! games. Not Sword and Shield.

I mean, is it really crummy to expect the bare minimum?

Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Fire Emblem Three Houses, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate were all massive leaps forward from what came before. Splatoon 2 had tons of additional content and quality of life improvements over the original. Kirby Star Allies was a love letter to Kirby fans which brought back so many fan favorite characters.

All of these were improvements and massive steps for their respective franchises. Meanwhile Sword and Shield doesn't even have a full Dex. That's not some footnote, that's a major thing. Even in Gen III where hardware issues prevented transfer from Johto to Hoenn, all of the Pokémon were still in the data. That's not the case here. A more expensive franchise iteration shouldn't give less of the main content, which are the Pokémon themselves. Especially not when this is the highest grossing media franchise on earth. Especially not when all of these other franchises are making huge strides.

It's not unreasonable to expect more, especially when people are only asking for the bare minimum and GameFreak is still failing to deliver.

No the entirety of the Grinch Leak is a character. It's an amalgamation of Geno, Chorus Kids, Isaac, Mach Rider, Shadow and yes even Ken and Banjo.

It'd be a missed opportunity if they stopped the passes after this one considering the hype surrounding each character, especially Banjo-Kazooie with possibly the most positive vocal reaction in Smash history.
