I'll do my DLC predictions for the final Fighter's Pass characters, though it's not that special given there's only two left (granted, I did guess Joker and Banjo & Kazooie correctly prior), and I don't even want to imagine how I'd square my roster with a second fighter's pass.

Dante, because I think Capcom is likely for the Fighter's Pass, he's a well-requested DLC character and it got a new game this year. The creator said he wouldn't get into Smash until Devil May Cry was on the Switch... a month later Devil May Cry was announced for the Switch. Lying, or coincidence--remains to be seen.

And Crash is a pick I'd really like--now that I got Banjo & Kazooie I'm satisfied, but I always said that Crash was still more iconic to gaming in general. Would be nice to not only have a character heavily associated with Sony, but a former mascot. It made sense for Smash after the N-Sane Trilogy brought Crash back into the public consciousness and was announced for the Switch--and both the N-Sane trilogy and Crash Team Racing sold well on it. Would make sense for a Game Awards reveal too, as they'll be able to get that guy in the Crash outfit again.

I'm still predicting Crash and a Namco character. I used to be super confident in Dark Souls specifically, but as time passes that confidence gets shaken. Especially with Tekken 7's continuous support, I almost feel like a Tekken character is more likely. Maybe Heihachi, Maybe Kazuya, maybe even Jin. But definitely Tekken.

But that didn't stop Banjo, did it? I don't think he has too much notoriety in Japan either.
Not sure about Banjo's exact reputation in Japan (people will debate this) but I have a feeling his games have done better than Rayman's

I'd love to see Rayman in, and I think he has somewhat of a chance (DLC so far has given the impression of Nintendo seeking to strengthen ties with third parties), but his presence (or lack of it) in Japan unfortunately seems to be something of a stumbling block - at least for DLC which they need to encourage people to buy; I don't think it would be as much of a barrier if they included him in the main game for a future title

Banjo is at least decently popular in Japan.

Rayman, meanwhile, is almost hilariously unpopular there. Rayman Legends sold all of 1,500 copies there in its first week. To put that into perspective, that's a little more than half of what Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. did, and that game did infamously poorly in Japan.

That's true, but from the figures we have Banjo-Kazooie still did decently in Japan, with the first game selling over 400,000 units. Of course, sales aren't entirely reflective of popularity, but it doesn't seem like Banjo was some niche obscure title there.

Rayman on the other hand, has sold to be frank, pretty ****ing miserably in Japan. See https://www.gonintendo.com/stories/...nds-definitive-edition-first-day-sell-through and http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2013/10/rayman_legends_lands_with_a_thud_at_japanese_retail

I'm unsure of a Bandai Namco character given they helped with making the game and from Smash 4, Smash 4 DLC, and Ultimate's base did not get any character outside of PAC-MAN. Namco doesn't have the biggest library to choose from, unlike Square Enix and Capcom, so it has me doubting if Sakurai wants to include another Bandai Namco character. If he did, my hope would be Agumon, so that we can have that Pokemon vs Digimon battle. I also feel like Lloyd is a big possibility.

So that's why I went with Capcom, with the only question mark being if Ken is considered *the* Capcom rep. He's an echo, but he would take a hard time to license regardless being a third party character.

Dude. That's exactly why they're getting another character. They're the only one without a second.

I don't think Sakurai's the type to make sure there's an even spread of characters like that. He's not like a dog walker giving an equal amount of treats to the dogs or something.

Like, I don't think he'd turn down one of Capcom's massively popular characters because it wouldn't be "even." It wasn't even in Smash 4, and it's not even now.

I think ultimately if Sakurai doesn't feel any of the other Namco characters warrant inclusion on the Fighters Pass then we won't get one.

I know that sounds obvious but I doubt he pencils in a Namco slot and thinks "I'll find someone to fill this in later."

how sakurai plans character inclusions according to the speculation scene:

how sakurai actually plans inclusions: "hey this joker guy is pretty neat"

Companies aren't children who get angry that Sakurai is giving Capcom three reps while they're stuck with one.
Or at least I hope they're not.

Well yeah, that's because they're new.

Why is it that when everyone dropped costume theory they still insisted to keep around this notion that we're getting a fourth capcom character instead of a second Namco character. And what exactly makes a second namco character un-likely?

I've felt another Capcom character was likely long before costume theory.

Mainly because I think Resident Evil and Ace Attorney have very strong reasons for consideration. I'd say Monster Hunter too, but I'm not 100% on its odds given the existing content.

Okay. So the only thing you have against Namco is that you think Capcom is more likely. Which has no real backing outside your own opinions.

Why does anyone want Phoenix Wright in Smash
Why wouldn't you? The series is incredibly charming, has great music, has a wonderful cast of characters, and has been one of the most consistently "Nintendo" third party franchises.

Capcom owns some very notable franchises

Mega Man
Street Fighter
Resident Evil
Ace Attorney
Devil May Cry
Monster Hunter

I'd argue they're up there with Nintendo in terms of owning some of the most ludicrous Japanese gaming ips

People underestimate how many iconic characters Bandai Namco has to choose from. It’s not just Agumon, a Tekken character, or Dark Souls character. There’s also Klonoa, a Tales Of character, a Soul Calibur character, and especially KOS-MOS (even though she was made by Monolith, Namco technically still owns her as per her Xenoblade 2 artwork)

Tales Of characters and KOS-MOS have been in crossovers before as well
