all the smash community drama from the past three or so months has been from Ally, dude's some sort of bad omen

Matchfixing is dishonest, people try to defend it by saying far sportsmanship when they split the winnings but it gives people the impression that the match was fixed even if it wasn't. It ruins EVOs credibility and makes it harder to get people to come. Smash is now being taken seriously and the people signing up have to act responsible

They are gamers. So...yes. The community itself is bad. Most of the competitors are fine from what we know.

My red flag for someone is when they unironically call themselves a gamer as their identity.

She did apologize and owned up to her actions at least, so I can respect that. It was wrong, but she owns it and wants to be better. I hope she does indeed improve.

Yes, Ally was 30 something, Zack was 16 (which is legal in Canada, but apparently there was more to that, apparently talks of abuse and grooming. Also, he was 16, that's gross.)

Ally was 27 actually, but that kind of relationship is against Romeo and Juliet laws, as if you're dating someone under 18, you can be no more than 5 years older than them, regardless of the area's age of consent if it's under 18

So he might be in some deep trouble, and Ally DEFINITELY isn't coming back anytime soon.

Flashback to the days when Ultimate's worst drama was Salem being kind of an asshole.
Least the Melee side of things is pretty clean, the worst thing that's happened this year that I can recall was the crab and that's just something we can kinda laugh at over how ridiculous it was.

DK should absolutely be higher on that list. It's a bonfide million seller for pretty much all of it's games.

If I were to make a list, it would look kinda similar. Mario & Pokemon belonging to an SS rank, Zelda in the S rank, and then the rest as the same as that list only with DK alongside AC, Splatoon, Kirby, & FE.

Dude. You’re just wrong about this. K. Rool, Ridley, Geno, and Banjo have all been the huge requests since the original game. But beyond their popularity within the community, they were all united because their inclusion was thought to be impossible for one reason or another. It shouldn’t really be “the big four”. It should be “the impossible four”.

While I don't think one can really say there's a main four (I recall people claiming it was a trinity), there's no denying that K. Rool, Ridley, Geno, and Banjo & Kazooie have had huge, longterm support. Not necessarily consistent--every character waxes and wanes depending on the perception of their liklihoods--but to deny any of those character's significance is just ignoring the facts.

As for Banjo & Kazooie, they were highly requested since Melee (yes, along with James Bond at the time). Their vocal support died down most likely due to people thinking it was literally impossible--at the time it was as ridiculous as getting a Sony-owned character. That doesn't mean it disappeared. Phil's tweet simply showed it wasn't impossible--it didn't cause a demand that wasn't already there, it allowed people to talk about it without coming across as overly hopeful. B&K's arrival was spoiled by Verge's rumors, along with official confirmation that Nintendo and Microsoft were working together in some capacity, along with a ton of rumors of Xbox supporting the Switch more, including official announcements of previously exclusive games, like Cuphead, coming to Switch. Add on to that the merchandise and Shinobi, it seemed obvious--but that betrays the long history when it was not only not obvious, but constantly objected to as being a pipe dream.

I can't speak about the other characters since, as I was an on-and-off Smash player prior, I hadn't heard of Ridley, K Rool and Geno until I got into Smash discussion. But looking at the history of these characters, you're correct that they were all a) popular b) long-term c) and at some point, thought to be impossible.

I wouldn't go so far as to say there's a definitive set--Isaac and Skull Kid were also huge. But to claim any of those four were not popular, only recently popular, or obvious is just re-writing history.
