What...that is not a good comparison.
First off, there's a lot more types of horror than just slasher films.
Second, the main appeal of horror films is, you know, getting scared, not watching people get cut to pieces by Jason Voorhees or tossed in a blender.

So since I've been playing a lot of Sm4sh I decided to go and grind some tech skill and movement in Melee. My hands hurt now

Probably because they used to cross over all the time. Not as the focus for a game, true, but still...

Really? Aside from the two James McCloud and one of the endings in Star Fox Command, I don't remember any other F-Zero and Star Fox crossovers/references.

What would be cool is if Captain Falcon and maybe some other F-Zero pilots show up as secret pilots for Star Fox Wii U for both single and multiplayer. For one, Captain Falcon might not be playable as part of the main story, but a side mission could involve him or it could have a F-Zero mini-game. Later on if F-Zero ever gets another game - Star Fox Wii U could tease it -, then the Star Fox characters could show up as unlockable pilots.

Oh, and I can't believe I forgot this: a Mega Man and Metroid crossover. It'd be glorious if not for the fact that the higher ups at Capcom... Whatever, it'd be amazing and it makes a lot of sense. An old school Castlevania and Zelda crossover would be neat too, so like a "sequel" to Zelda II. That would require Konami's cooperation, but Konami has more sense than Capcom, so that would be easy.
