The reason? They thought I was mean on Facebook. I posted this:

"If you have the flu (H1N1, Seasonal, whatever), don't pretend you don't in school. I have important things to do that require me to be in healthy physical shape. So PLEASE tell me if you're sick before you hang with me. As manageable... as the flu is, I REALLY don't want to lug a big bass drum around for hours with the flu."

The reaction? People are like "You don't have to be mean" (My own sister said that. What's even more stupid is that my cousin called to see if I was alright. There's a difference between being mean and being honest/smart. I have my chapter championship then my Atlantic Coast Championship in the next two weeks and if I get the flu NOW, we're screwed.

I like how regular Joes online think that by saying flat out what I mean is mean or weird.

True that. I posted on my Myspace "New Twilight film release? again? Off to go cut myself" and I started getting phone calls and texts asking if I really do cut my self over Twilight. TWILIGHT

Honestly Gw, you're sh**ting rainbows and bunnies compared to a message that I would send regarding that topic.

I see nothing wrong with you being concerned about your well-being; it's one of the few things that we can adequately control in the world.

I'm sure some of the more uptight individuals at your school took it in a personal manner, but I see nothing wrong with your statement.
Alot of the kids at my school used to say things on Facebook like "IF you happen to be sick, do NOT COME TO SCHOOL".
We were having a large influx of kids with H1N1 show up for school so that they wouldn't get behind.

I had it for a week. >.<

When some random person reads it, then it can easily interpret over to:

"Hey giez, stay away from me if you're sick since I haz serious business to attend so I can't be bothered with a flu brought onto me by YOU"

:/

Being honest sometimes means what you say may come off as plainly mean.

This is a perfect example. The fact it's in text allows people to add different tones to it making it sound arrogant even if it wasn't intended.

Your wording is probably another reason people say it that way.

Tbh I can see your concern, but when I read, I myself kinda saw it in an arrogant manner as well. It's really the wording that makes it sound "mean".

Me and my friend are pretty blunt on conversations when it comes to the truth, the people usual get pissed when proven wrong.

I don't think there's anything wrong with saying that, no one wants to get sick, especially if you've got something you have to do.

Although, I don't have a problem with people going to school if they are sick if it's past like, middle school/freshman or sophomore year of high school. No one wants to get sick because someone else who was sick stayed home...but it's not like they're enjoying themselves going to school while they're sick. You can miss a lot if you're absent from school, especially for an extended period of time, and some people can't afford to miss the work.

Of course, hanging out with you is a different story. It's common sense that if you're sick, you shouldn't be hanging out with other people.

H1N1 is extremely contagious. You can get it even when you're not spending a bigger amount of time with someone who has it. You just have to, like, sit near someone having it in a bus and if they sneeze, well, yea.

Of course, if you're staying away, it's a bit less likely that you get infected than if you were rubbing all over them, but I don't think that the difference is that big. I got a few severe sicknesses by only using public transportation.
