Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Wait what about Modern Kirby Ik i'm steering WAYYYY off topic and ik there are modern Kirby in forms of Spirits, Stages and Moosic but what about a character i don't remember seeing an interview where he said he don't care about whether Kirby series can have modern character reps
I don't think he cares about it much. Same with Star Fox and Donkey Kong Country, they only have characters from their very first game.

So while we’re talking about out wanted newcomers again, what stages and songs do you want to come with them? (You don’t have to list a ton of songs, a few you really want is fine.)

Ryu Hayabusa: Basilisk Mine Field
Shantae: Burning Town
Rayman: Glade of Dreams or Land of the Livid Dead
Banjo-Kazooie: Spiral Mountain
Dixie Kong: Homecoming Hijinks
Cynthia: Alolan Battle Tree
Bandana Dee : The Apple Juice Song
Rabbid Peach : Midboss Battle
Adeline and Ribbon : Kirby 64 Credits
Banjo-Kazooie : ANY, JUST ANYTHING FROM BANJO KAZOOIE !
Eevee : Also with Banjo, ANYTHING FROM POKEMON I NEED MORE POEKMUSIC I'M ADDICTED TO THEM *insert radio static

I don't think he cares about it much. Same with Star Fox and Donkey Kong Country, they only have characters from their very first game.
Wolf debuted in Star Foox 64 the 2nd game in their series and DK not sure but the only other character ik people want are Funky and Dixie

To be fair in the case of Star Fox, the only thing they do with the franchise is remake the first game over and over and over and-
over and over.gif

again

To be fair, there was a FF spin-off he was in on the handheld. Theatrical something something Final Fantasy. I forget the exact name. However, it was out before Smash with Cloud in it. Not that your point doesn't stand.

Still was a spin-off and not his game even then.
Theatrhythm Final Fantasy and its sequel Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call.

I swear everytime Cloud comes up I repeat that he was in these games so I'm disappointed people still don't know their names :p
As of the time of his confirmation, and even now, there is no confirmation that Persona 5 will be on the Switch, and at the time, neither was Final Fantasy VII.

Call it what you want, but Cloud and Joker's only appearances on Nintendo at this time were in spin-offs. The same can be said of Dante. And I'm sorry to PDMG, but the argument that "Final Fantasy as a whole existed on Nintendo so it doesn't count" is just completely untrue. Note that in Smash, the franchise is listed only as Final Fantasy VII, not the series as a whole. All content in the game is from VII. Like Dante, Cloud's only Nintendo appearance at time of inclusion wasn't even in his own series!
Is it labelled FFVII because the series as a whole with Nintendo history is irrelevant or because of Square being whack?

Well, good luck beating Animal Crossing.
Whatever that could possibly mean.
Obviously some games don't have full win conditions, so for games like Wii Fit and Animal Crossing I consider playing them to be the equivalent. But if it's any consolation, I've sunk 700 hours into New Leaf in the five years it's been out.

Now, if only I could get my hands on a R.O.B. and a Wii Balance Board...

It's labelled FF7 because Square Enix and by extension Nintendo don't exactly plan to add more content from FF outside of 7.

I don't actually think it means much, if anything in the way of Sakurai's personal stance on Nintendo inclusivity.

I think Joker does, but that's an aside.

It's because we're getting other FF characters representing their own game as a different series.

Which would matter if he didn't entirely dismiss the idea of a Nintendo appearance being required in the same interview. He already knew it was irrelevant. He told us to stop caring about it too. He doesn't know what he would've done because it never came up. But we already know he doesn't actually care as his answers prove.

Which you ignored tons of the interview making it clear he just didn't care about that crap. And it's a good thing too. Because it'd just make the roster weak by ignoring great characters over arbitrary crap. To be frank, the only reason we are unlikely to get a character with no Nintendo appearances is because we get them too often for that to be a factor. Even Master Chief has one.

Yep. Regardless, your point still stands. Sakurai doesn't care if the character's game or even series is on Nintendo. He just wants the character for who they are. Bias is possible, of course.
I guess I just have a different interpretation of what he's saying. I obviously think he doesn't give a **** about console wars and wants people to just enjoy the games and all that, but I think there is still a part of him that would like to keep it to characters who have appeared on a Nintendo console in some form if possible "as a courtesy", but wouldn't necessarily force himself to not include the character if he desires them to be in Smash.

I hope you're talking about the Phantom Thieves logo and not the wonky "P5"
I hope that it does, simply because the P5 logo just looks really cool...
I lowkey dislike P5 logo, but I wouldn't mind it if it made a P3 character possible. (I know the chances are zero, that's the joke)

I think a mask would be a better series symbol but what do I know

idk, I remember really getting into some of the Wii Fit minigames.
If you're going to spring for the game + balance board, I would hope so.

Obviously, but I'm a collector. Whether the game is good or not, I don't care. I want the piece and I want to try to play at least one game per series damnit! :p
You got that Earthbound cartridge? Real collectors ain't settling for the DIGITAL COPY, gross! :p

Wait, is Smash actually canon in the Persona timeline? They can pull off a PQ after all.
Everything's canon in the Persona universe because the writers don't give a **** with the magical power of:

1. Memory Wipes
2. Alternate Realities.

When everything's canon, nothing is.

reminder that persona 4 golden's 'golden' ending is still canonically followed by dancing all night and blazblue cross tag battle

yu never gets a break

So, let's keeps things simple.

4 Most Wanted DLC Characters anyone?

1. Doom Slayer
2. Crash Bandicoot
3. Lloyd
4. Ryu Hayabusa

WHOOPS I'VE ADDED 5! MY BAD! SORRY Fulgore, BUT I'M CROSSING YOU OFF MY LIST!
Might be a bit late to the punch on this, but I think if I had to go for a top 4 most wanted for DLC
1: Phoenix Wright
2: Tiz, Agnès, Ringabel or Edea
3: Isaac (let me dream okay)
4: Ryu Hayabusa

So my casual friends hate scrolling stages, stage hazards, big stages, items that are not named Smash Ball and the Smash meter.

But i love them. Its weird. I cant play casually with items even with my friends. At least LV9 CPU´s dont seem to care.

Yeah that's really weird, I have friends like that too. I have to keep on meter and Hazards "because we don't nolife the game like you guys and it had to be a fair fight" but the same guys can't stand the chaos of items because it's "too confusing if you're used to other fighting games".

Really drives me away from playing casually at all atm.

Ha...haha...hahaha...

Oh, the irony of these statements is palpable.

Items are supposed to be there for the casual players.

I don't mind whether items are on or off, it doesn't really change the game that much for me.

My dad found a Wii Balance Board in a Charity Shop a few years back, so try places like that.

"EVERYTHING IS CANON!"
I can think up multiple non-canon stuff out of my head, tbh: Any anime/manga adaptations, most of the alternate endings, most of the alternate routes, Trinity Soul, Detective Naoto etc.

Aside from the games, only canon stuff I can think of are drama CDs.
