It’s like your taunting people. It’s like your saying “I’ll stop bringing him up if you convince me he shouldn’t” when that’s impossible. The very things that make people want him are also the reasons other people hate the idea. It’s a problem with gaming as a whole actually. The opinions of a fan base don’t homogenize, one side just yells louder then the other. The truth is there is no objective reason why any character shouldn’t be in Smash. There are reasons why they might not be, but those have been shattered in the past so what’s stopping them from shattering again.

So stop asking for people to come up with objective reasons. Because at the end of the day that’s impossible and this entire forum boils down to “I want this guy and don’t want this other guy”. And only one of those is an opinion that can actually be argued.

Sad thing is, I’m not even that venomous against Minecraft in Smash.

A stage would be wicked cool and I can’t deny that Steve’s moveset potential would be very creative.

But I just can’t stand the idea of such an ugly, low textured, limited animation, block dude being in a fast paced upbeat fighting/party game, if they designed him so such differently I’d be completely open to him.

I know WFT was in a blank state when she was in Smash 4 and I initially hated her when he got announced but still, after PP I’m just getting sick of out of left field fighters.

DLC #2: Octolings
DLC #3: Crono
DLC #4: Yuri Lowell
DLC #5: Dr. Eggman

That'd get a nice 11/10 for me with Joker and included.

As for me?

DLC Pack No. 2 would be Phoenix Wright. If echoes were allowed, he'd have either Apollo or Edgeworth as such.

DLC Pack No.3 would be Crash Bandicoot.

DLC Pack No. 4 would be Shantae of course.

And finally, DLC Pack No.5 would be either Sephiroth, NiGHTS, Dr. Eggman, Tron Bonne, Layton, Demitri Maximoff, Twintelle, Frisk, Undyne or Master Chief.

Yeah, if you couldn't tell, by DLC Pack Number 4, most of my solid picks are taken care of.

Remember. The supposed Steve supporters in this argument aren't necessarily pro Steve themselves.

They're anti stupid argument.

The avatar argument is stupid cause we have several of those.
The argument that people don't know or care about Steve is stupid because merchandise sales, and common knowledge.Just ask a classroom. I mean it. Heck I just taught 4th graders. Only series they knew were Mario, Pokémon and Minecraft and rarely Zelda.
The argument that Steve is ugly is entirely subjective.
The argument that Mine craft is important but Steve isn't is just.... assinine. People tried to argue that stuff with Snake, Ryu and CLOUD. No joke. I heard it word for word. The argument had no legs to stand on.

If you want good arguments against Steve bring up that he's a western developed character, or that he's owned by a direct competitor. Or perhaps that Minecraft has crossovers in Minecraft but Minecraft characters don't leave Minecraft showing a possible hesitance.

No one is saying you have to like the idea. Just stop justifying your opinion with stupid arguments.

I'm not too big on Steve as far as his, non-existent, character goes. I'm much more into characters with actual stories to them.
But Minecraft was a game that played a very big part in my childhood, I remember following it ever since it was on beta 1.6 and the only real reasons I eventually stopped playing it was because people started seeing it as "cringy" and I lost access to a computer I couod actually play it on.

Thankfully, both of those issues have been solved nowadays(people still call it cringy, I just don't care) and it's really the only game I my girlfriend plays so I enjoy being able to play it with her, especially since I was never able to get into multiplayer outside of playing the Hunger Games servers sometimes.

It's more so that Sakurai decided that role fits them for the game. They announced the DLC planning was finished a week after the last Direct/pre-release. If they wanted to make them DLC they would have saved the resources for that.

To him the characters are already in the game. If Nintendo subscribes to that idea they may not suggest those characters as fighters. If they don't I think only Waluigi stands a chance anyway.

Sakurai didn't put them into those roles because he thinks it's what fits them, he outs those characters in those roles since the fighter plan is already finished and he wasnts those characters to be in the game in at least some form.

4: Sylux. As a Rundas supporter I have to admit that Sylux is more deserving and they share a lot of aestetics so this would be epic.

5. Fawful, our dark overlord. May he have Chortles for many Battles to come.

So I'm finally writing up my Steve character argument, and I figured that this part would be relevant to the current conversation about "popular" characters.

Spoiler: What is the "Smash Bubble?"

One of the most prominent arguments against Steve is that he's not a popular choice among fans, with speculators citing fan poll after fan poll to prove this. One GameFAQs user even said of polls like this,

All of these polls fall into the same trap of being contained within the "Smash Bubble" as myself and others have coined it. What exactly is the "Smash Bubble" though? If I had to define it, I would as such:


While the contribution of these focused fans isn't to be ignored, as evidenced by K. Rool's immense Ballot presence in part due to the Kutthroat's Ballot Campaign and Sakurai's statements on Ridley and Geno, a flaw of the fanbase at large is a general insistence that those within the Smash Bubble are the only Smash Bros. fans and that by not catering to them specifically, Nintendo is making a mistake. This sentiment completely ignores other fanbases outside of the core fanbase which gave us picks such as Isabelle and Simon Belmont.

"But tehponycorn" you say, "Simon was a popular pick! Sakurai even said so himself!" Take a look at the many fan polls listed above and tell me how many Simon prominently appears on. The answer is 3. While 3/12 may seem like modest popularity, his votes total less than 1,000, and he's listed among many other, more popular third party characters. That hardly lines up with Sakurai's statement of Castlevania being "popular in player polls." So, there's a disconnect between what fan polls show and actual popularity? Why is this?

I propose an explanation in two parts:

First, all fan polls by nature fall prey to Voluntary Response Bias, defined as:

Every Smash fan poll cited majorly falls within the Smash Bubble because those within the Smash Bubble are most inclined to vote on polls like these. Granted, even the official Smash Ballot itself falls prey to this, and indeed those within the Smash Bubble would be much more inclined to vote in an official poll like this, but any bias within it is made up for by the Law of Large Numbers, defined as:

The official nature of the poll and the advertising conducted for it extended the reach of the poll to even casual fans, which is why it's so important to establish this disconnect. The largest, most recent Smash fan poll as of right now is the Reddit Smash Ultimate Tourney randomized poll, with over 50,000 votes. In comparison, the Smash Ballot collected 1.8 million votes (360 times more votes), making it much closer to the wants of the entire Smash Bros. fanbase, hence why picks like Simon Belmont can float by the core fanbase largely undetected.

Second, there exists a strong, silent majority of fans outside of the core fanbase that has sway in character picks. People tend to forget that Nintendo tries to market Smash Bros. for everyone, or at the very least, the largest amount of people possible. It doesn't matter if you're a child whose mom bought him a Switch for Christmas or someone who's been with them since the NES, so long as you're a fan of Nintendo you might as well be considered a part of the Smash Bros. fanbase. Naturally, the wider Nintendo fanbase is largely varied, and outside of the Smash Bubble exists many different demographics with different character desires. This is how we end up with picks like Isabelle, who caters to the larger, more casual fanbase who see Isabelle often.

Returning to the Reddit Smash Ultimate Tourney randomized poll, you'll notice that Sora and Phoenix Wright scored better than they typically do in other fan polls, taking 5th and 8th place respectively, and garnering a total 20,883 votes, equal to around 40% of votes in the final round. This is impressive for two characters usually ignored within the Smash Bubble, or at the very least overlooked in favor of other, more popular speculation picks. The poll includes this interesting fact about them:

If a larger reddit fan poll was able to attract people outside of Reddit's r/SmashBros, then a poll as massive as the official Ballot would be able to attract people from all over, giving a skew towards the silent majority, as anyone could vote on it, even people outside of the regular Nintendo or Smash Bros. fanbase.

To make a long story short, there is a silent presence outside of the Smash Bubble. It is large and it is more powerful than many think. While our Smash Bubble is a prominent part of the fanbase, Nintendo has a much wider fanbase to appeal to as well, and the Smash Bubble isn't indicative of Smash Bros. fans in general.

With a few bonuses here and there. Chorus Kids would be done like Piranha Plant as a stop gap character with no stage, between seasons. In addition, I also think a few characters should be considered as a bonus round. Not a complete season, but a few characters. I want to see Dante. I want to see a character from a Midway Arcade game (not MK, one of the classics like Rampage or Gauntlet), and I want to play as either Goku or Tabuu.

Sony currently have their head up their own asses. Unless something drastically changes I don't see that being a possibility.

Sony is the current leader in the race and has always been more strict and ‘arrogant’ than their competitors, see crossplay and 599 US DOLLARS. They wouldn’t let a crossover with other companies happen.

The PS4 version of Fortnite is the only version that didn't support crossplay. To make matters worse, if you played it on ps4 even once, Sony would lock that account so you could ONLY play on ps4. Naturally, people were pissed including Epic Games and Sony's excuse was "That's because Playstation is the best system to play it on!" They only backed down when investors got pissed after that remark too

Basically when the switch version of Fortnite came out there was a ton of controversy over the fact that people with Fortnite accounts made on Playstation could not use their accounts for other consoles, they were locked on to Sony platforms. This wasn’t a problem the Xbox and Switch had, and this was furthered by Rocket Leagie having crossplay between all platforms except PlayStation and the devs of another game accidentally enabling cross play between Sony platforms and other consoles, showing that it wasn’t even some huge cost or effort to do. Sony eventually yielded and let Fortnite have cross play between other platforms.
