Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

I hope I didn’t miss the conversation about video game cartoons, cause I’ve actually been working on ideas for a new Pac-Man animated series that takes more content present in the various games but follows it’s own story.

One of my sketches that I’m FINALLY able to post.

(Just in case, from left to right: Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde)
:D Wow, I gotta say this looks great! :3 Keep up the amazing work!

So how was everyone's Christmas or respective Holiday?
Mine wasn't too bad, I got artbooks for Bayonetta 2 and Mega Man (Classic) along with the Street Fighter Legends: Sakura graphic novel.

Wow, that is pretty cute, actually. I like it. Any other characters in this cartoon idea of yours?
Yep, a lot of characters from various Pac-Man games would appear with various roles and purposes: Ghosts like Sue, Funky and Spunky from Pac-Mania, Orson from Pac-Man World, King Spooky from Pac-Man World 2, Fairies like the Fairy Queen and Krystal from Pac-n-Roll, the new characters from Pac-Man Party, even some other Namco arcade characters like Dig-Dug and Mappy. I mostly just sketched them out for now and I’ll show them off soon.

Game Journalist are supposed to be Professionals.
No, they're not. Pro gamers are people who play competitively for money. Reviewers are people who tell other people whether or not they should buy a game. Most people are NOT pro gamers who play competitively for money. That's why most reviewers are people that play like normal-ass people, to tell other, normal-ass people whether or not the game was fun for them to play.

I kinda wish they went with Pokemon Origin's Bryce Papenbrook for Red over Billy Bob Thompson.

Game Journalists get paid to review games. If that's not what a professional is, then none of them deserve to be where they are.

So apparently the new update is bringing new Spirits, which basically means that we can never truly 100% this game now unless we consistently play to get the new Spirits that will supposedly disappear forever.

Yes, they are professional reviewers. Not professional gamers.

Straight up, Devil May Cry games are only fun for the, like, 10% of people that can pull off all the crap that actually makes those games fun. And for that 10% of the player base, those games are fantastic.

But for the other 90% of players, who can't pull off any of the stuff that actually makes those games fun, those games are mediocre character action games.

So which is a better use of a review outlet's resources? A reviewer that is able to tell 10% of their readers how good they're going think the game is, or a reviewer that is able to tell 90% of their readers how mediocre they're going to think the game is?

Yes, because out of the 3 million people that bought it, evidently 10% of those were people that actually enjoyed it.

But for the other 90% of players, who can't pull off any of the stuff that actually makes those games fun, those games are mediocre character action games.
You're conflating proficiency with enjoyment.
... And the quality of a game to how it appeals to people that are not fans of the genre and are unable to play it.

Honestly, I don't even know where to begin with how stupid this is.

Merry Christmas everyone!

So I've been thinking about the DLC over the past week in my time in maining :ultkrool: and minoring :ultincineroar:.

Here's what I've been thinking.

Very simply

Porky might be if any the only nintendo character we get for DLC.

That's exactly what HE'S doing, by saying that people who aren't proficient in playing the game aren't qualified to tell others how much they enjoyed the game.

The point is that the reviewer's proficiency should be comparable with that of it's target audience, so that the reviewer's experience is as relatable to the audience's as possible.

The target audience of the average review outlet is not the level of player that is SSS-ranking DMC games. Therefore the reviewers don't need to be either.

However, They should be proficient enough to actually play the game. Nowdays, it simply seems like some reviewers are outright bad at playing games. They don't have to be pros, but they shouldn't be playing like they are 5 years old either.

I don't give a **** about what "HE'S" doing, what you just spouted in that previous comment is some of the dumbest bullcrap I've read today. By your ridiculous made up metric, games should be only enjoyed by those at a pre-school level.

The basis of the argument was that reviewers that aren't playing well enough for the lyrics to kick in in DMC5's songs didn't deserve to be reviewing the game.

These are people who are still finishing the game. But not S-ranking fights. Hardly people playing like 5-year-olds.

No, the dumbest bullcrap you've read today is that conclusion you got by hyperbolizing what I said by about 1000%.

Saying that the opinion of someone who's skill level is relative to your own is more valuable to you than one of someone that's far above you is not even close to saying you can't enjoy a game you aren't great at.

You don't care about what I said in the context of the larger discussion it was taking place in, so who gives a **** what you think.

Porky?

Not impossible, but I don't see it happening. I'll never truly count anyone out, though. Not anymore.
Only shoo-in characters are the ones in Noipoi's icon, you didn't hear it from me.

Joker.

I'm not even mad, I just didn't see it happening. Clearly I was wrong.
Same. Before game awards, if someone told me Joker was likely, I'd smack them.
