I agree with some of the Melee community tending to act entitled sometimes. However, the problem is Salem’s arguments were faulty to say the least. As sky said, the Melee community was fairly justified in not looking brawl, as it was just an inherently anti-competitive game. While it’s true that the Melee chant was a thing, it was a thing years ago. There is no reason to bring the drama back around now. He’s generalising the entire community based on what is ultimately not a large amount of evidence from years ago done by a handful people.tbh he's not entirely wrong as there's a huge problem with the Melee community and no other FGC community is as entitled. Unless you can get me a community that has acted similar, Melee DID have the whole Apex thing where they chanted "Melee! Melee!" IMMEDIATELY when Zero won Smash 4 finals and at another tournament they threw a fit with Guilty Gear Xrd players because Xrd may have cut in to Melee time and they refused to act mature about it.
TLDR: Salem's kinda right but it took a while for him to get his thoughts out there rationally to make them actual points
You're definitely right, but the fact that he told the players that they weren't a part of the smash community is a little disrespectful. Armada, Leffen, Mang0, etc have all tried out the different games in the series and decided that they didn't like them, which is totally fair. Hell, Leffen even played competitive Brawl.tbh he's not entirely wrong as there's a huge problem with the Melee community and no other FGC community is as entitled. With that said, I don't think he should bark at people that actually wants the game to thrive. Either Salem is secretly trying to keep the Smash community more whole or is being one huge tantrum.tbh he's not entirely wrong as there's a huge problem with the Melee community and no other FGC community is as entitled. See I agree Salem ****ed up like that, because as divided as it is, it's still the Smash community. Going after Armada was odd as from what I've heard, he's a genuinely nice guy whereas I remember hearing about evidencezip or whatever it's called for Leffen and Mango being abusive to his wife and her being abusive back or some ****.You're definitely right, but the fact that he told the players that they weren't a part of the smash community is a little disrespectful. To tell them that they aren't a part of the Smash community is a little obscene. The audience and spectators are one thing, I can vouch for how many Melee purists there are, but the players shouldn't be told that they aren't a part of the community they've contributed to. There would be no Smash 4 or Brawl tournaments if it wasn't for Melee.
Damn Mango had abuse allegations? Never knew that.See I agree Salem ****ed up like that, because as divided as it is, it's still the Smash community. A quick google search should give you the details. It also showed articles about Ally being abusive. And the SGB video I last watched had the guys find out Jaleel White was abusive. Why the **** everyone gotta be wifebeaters and ****Damn Mango had abuse allegations? Never knew that.
But overall, I agree with Salem's points, but he clearly did this for attention. If he was so concerned with "the divide within the community" then why would he attack top level players from another game? Why go after melee players the way he did if you dislike this divide the community has? He streams with m2k a lot, why not try to stream with other Melee players getting into Ultimate? Or maybe just don't be a douche about it?
Joker, Porky, Banjo, Sylux and Erdrick/Geno would be a great fighter pass.DLC predictions for me:
1) Joker
2) Porky
3) Microsoft rep; Steve or Banjo (most likely)
4) A character Nintendo has rights to; Daemon X Machina rep, Sylux, Adeleine, etc.
5) Infamous Square rep; Erdrick, Geno, Sora, 2B, etc.
We might get one curveball but that's about it.
URKEL NOA quick google search should give you the details. It also showed articles about Ally being abusive. And the SGB video I last watched had the guys find out Jaleel White was abusive. Why the **** everyone gotta be wifebeaters and ****
The divide is due to the differences in competitiveness. Melee's more technical and movement based, whilst Ultimate is bait and punish. There will never be another game like Melee, thus it will always remain until GCN/Wii/CRT die out. This thing about claiming groups of people unworthy of being part of a community was always dumb to me.
If we love the game, even for different reason, we are all able to join them if we wish to.
For example: there can be people who got introduced to Spyro because of Skylanders, and people can accept to dislike those games. However, if that person wishes to become a Spyro fan, and wants to get into the franchise with the help of the fans and by buying the past or new games, we don’t have the power or control to try to take the person out or bash it for starting with Skylanders and knowing the most about that series. If it wants to be a Spyro fan, we should support the decission.
I love those character picks too, although i wish that the pass featured six fighters so i could include Crash to the mix.Joker, Porky, Banjo, Sylux and Erdrick/Geno would be a great fighter pass.
That's what I think, too, but then again, all of these options are predictable outcomes. I'd say Porky with a Mother 3 localization announcement would be pretty hype, but it's hard to keep the same level of hype throughout the entire DLC roster since Joker being unpredictable suddenly rendered almost every character predictable.Joker, Porky, Banjo, Sylux and Erdrick/Geno would be a great fighter pass.
Yeah, it has Joker and...possibly Erdrick and...eh, I get Joker either way.Joker, Porky, Banjo, Sylux and Erdrick/Geno would be a great fighter pass.
Let people enjoy a game that they enjoy. Melee’s community has lasted for so long is because as others have said, it’s a fast-paced game with a ton of technical movement, while the direct sequel in brawl was noticeably slower with inherently anti-competitive mechanics chucked in. Thus, Melee’s scene lasts whole brawl’s dies. And it’s not like Melee players haven’t tried other games, people like Leffen and M2K played them competitively. But can you blame them if they don’t enjoy it, and go back to Melee, a game they do enjoy?Tbh, nothing would make me happier than the Melee competitive community just simply dying. Its continued existence is just proof of how the Smash fanbase refuses to accept any sort of change while literally every other competitive community moves on to the most recent titles.
I find the 6th empty spot on the stage select screen to be kind of suspicious especially being Piranha Plant isn't getting a stage. I think Sakurai is going to give us a surprise. How likely do you guys think an extra DLC character, or even pack, is?
T'would be indeed! Though, not the best...Joker, Porky, Banjo, Sylux and Erdrick/Geno would be a great fighter pass.
I would main Porky immediatelyT'would be indeed! Though, not the best...
I liked the Dragon Quest games that i have played, so a rep in Smash would be dope for me.I remember being really against DQ in Smash but now I've warmed up to Erdrick and think he'll bring cool stuff.
They're gamers. That just comes with the furniture.Just went on reddit to read up on a thread about Mango's abuse towards his gf and holy **** those comments are absolutely disgusting.
What is it with edgy teenage boys who idolize grown men who act like douchebags?

A controversy with some competitive players.

Last night I think.Oh the competitve scene turned into Tumblr? When did this happen?
Salem supports segregation and we were just now talking about some Mang0 abuse allegations from a while agoOh the competitve scene turned into Tumblr? When did this happen?
Yesterday, Salem got into some drama with Leffen, with Salem saying that Melee wasn’t apart of the smash community based on years of research and generally bringing other Melee players into the drama. Today, he posted a twitlonger explaining his previous comments, and the current debate is wether he’s right or not, or if it was right to bring so many Melee players onto the discussion. Hope that’s unbiased.Oh the competitve scene turned into Tumblr? When did this happen?
Ah, I see. Thank you for the clarification. And whats this about segregation or is that just people going off the rails on the net again?Yesterday, Salem got into some drama with Leffen, with Salem saying that Melee wasn’t apart of the smash community based on years of research and generally bringing other Melee players into the drama.
