i just cant see a FF character get in that isnt sepiroth. because to the general audience, i think it will look very weird and it will raise the question to many fans "ok but why is _____ in when the biggest villain sepiroth wasn't and cloud was already in?"

i saw people on previous pages ask about how Sepiroth would fit in due to his lore. you gonna ask that same question for rosalina, palutena, shulk, bayo, or cloud? they'd just use whatever sepiroth had in ff7. and until further notice, final fantasy isnt represented in smash its literally just one game represented. That could be Nintendo decision or it could be SE either one is possible. business wise i think he is the best choice and he is the safe pick. I'd love to have kefla or tifa or even lightning. (NOT the boy band tho).

Also, if the SE character is going to be first what better way to hype everyone off but with a continuation on arguably 4's biggest announcement?

Oh snap, I found an Ultimate preorder for a really nice price but I'd rather not pay for delivery and not wait 7 days*
*Starting from whenever they actually get the game.

I know they have a store close to where I live so I should check that on the weekend.

They didn't say there's going to be an announcement though. I suggest cautious optimism.

Or if the Phiranna Plant leaker is right about patch one day bringing new modes, they still can announce those modes.

I don't think that announcing the first DLC is unlikely, but caution is recommended and not thinking is a "lock in".

I think the top potential characters in alphabetical order are: Banjo-Kazooie, Dante, Doom Slayer, Erdrick, Geno, Monster Hunter, Sephiroth, Steve.

Day 1 Patch(more like -2 Day Patch lmao) is already out and there doesn't seem to be anything but new spirits

The first DLC character will immediately break the assumption that Spirits deconform characters. It is a Mario character who has only appeared in one game but has remained popular nonetheless. It is a character known for wearing blue clothes. I am of course talking about MC Ballyhoo from Mario Party 8.

Then you should start switching.

I thought of the perfect reveal for a Dragon Quest character for the Game Awards. It starts out as a trailer showing that Dragon Quest 11 is coming to Switch next year. Then at the end, it cuts to the main character getting bumped by something and he turns around and it's Kirby.
He looks back and sees Cloud, Link and other sword fighters gets his sword and magic ready, and charges then it cuts to black. Then it says "Find out more. January 2019" also announcing a Nintendo Direct in January. Tell me that wouldn't be amazing.

It's not as good as the person who suggested that Sakurai come out and say "Here's a super popular character from creator Akira Toriyama!" then the camera starts out super-zoomed-in on Erdrick's Goku-like face, before pulling out to show who it really is.

No Sylux which is weird since I think he's in the lead in terms of video game appearances when it comes to the hunters.

According to a theory pointed out by vaanrose , it was probably a mistake on Nintendo's part. They likely thought they owned the the franchises, since they owned the Japanese names, but later discovered that Microsoft does indeed own them. So they scrapped the content related to them

Hell, could even have just been a programmer absent-mindedly adding Nintendo series trademarks to the game without thinking about it; that seems more likely than anyone at Nintendo thinking they own JFG or BC long enough for someone to decide to try and add spirits. That seems like something someone would have caught very quickly.
