Doesn't Nintendo own the Japanese names for Blast Corps and Jet Force Gemini though?

According to a theory pointed out by @vaanrose, it was probably a mistake on Nintendo's part. They likely thought they owned the the franchises, since they owned the Japanese names, but later discovered that Microsoft does indeed own them. So they scrapped the content related to them

That's an awfully big mistake to make all things considered. You figure they'd check the rights before even adding anything to the game.

Inb4 the special announcement is the Prime trilogy port that got leaked earlier today. Watch Smash fans whine that they're guaranteeing Metroid stays alive instead of showing DLC though

I am a Metroid fan AND a Crash fan.

I am sure we will get Metroid Prime stuff and CTR, so i am hyped just for that alone.
But imagine for a moment that they connect CTR to the reveal of Crash Bandicoot joining Smash... I would go totally nuts.

If someone here dares to bash the reveals related to Metroid and CTR, they will get muted by me.

TGA happens at 2AM over here, so I'm going to miss it, and while I could live with missing the Smash announcement (doubt DLC characters are getting full on CG trailers anyways, which is the hype part), the Metroid Prime rumors are eating me up. I guess the positive thing is that I won't have to watch the whole thing, I can't stand award shows, but man it's going to be difficult falling asleep that night.

Note that their earlier tweets hinting at VGA stuff mentioned a "few S P E C I A L things"; is that hinting at more than one Smash announcement, or just a general hint that there's going to be a few very special announcements at the VGAs in general?

Hell, could even have just been a programmer absent-mindedly adding Nintendo series trademarks to the game without thinking about it; that seems more likely than anyone at Nintendo thinking they own JFG or BC long enough for someone to decide to try and add spirits. That seems like something someone would have caught very quickly.

Plus, if they really went all teh way to Microsoft to make sure that they get some Rare Ips, but then decided to scrap them for DLC....

Jet force gemini and blast corps? don't get me wrong ... aren't bad games, but aren't exactly the rare games that did more waves.
Battletoads, Conker, Perfect Dark, Killer Instinct would be more likelier rare Ips that you would try to negotiate to have spirits IMO.
