Honestly what video game character besides Shovel Knight debuted in 2014. I’m struggling

I'm not sure, but it's characters before 2014, right? Not characters from 2014

I really dislike when someone puts diversity in air quotes as if that's somehow a negative thing.

The converse of this statement is having a non-diverse cast of 70+ characters. And that's what we're all here for, right? "Alright! They put in Metal Mario! AND FROG MARIO. OHMYGAWD."

Also, implying people couldn't possibly want a female character for any reason other than filling quotas.

I REALLY REALLY REALLY want Elma and the amount of people who said I only wanted her because I wanted a black girl in the game is astounding

like not to be like "elma fans are the most oppressed group of all" but it's annoying. You can want a character in for reasons other then their skin color.

But the thing is, most people in Japan are of a lighter skin tone, so it makes more sense to make characters look similar to their primary audience

I believe Jin and Lora from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 have a decent chance. Torna the Golden Country is selling pretty well and on top of that it has mostly great reviews so far. The characters are also likeable and bad***.

XC2 would probably be too new for dlc, if we're in fact getting characters that debuted before 2014

Yeah, if XC2 is too new to have a rep in the game then the main characters of XC2's DLC have a less then zero percent chance

True, but Japan still caters to their home audience first. Plus, almost all the human characters in the roster are light skinned. And if you look at the characters in most Japanese games, the characters are almost all light skinned, which tells me that Japan prefers to cater to their own home audience and not the rest of the world (which I have no problem with)

It isn't really a game about that anyways. If anything, instead of race or gender we should be talking about Game Genre representation.

Yep, I am pointing out how female representation in smash is fine by showing whom actually deserves more representation when trying to fill it with an arbitrary quota. Complains about how female representation is lacking are looking things through a scope.
