The problem with Geno is he also does not fit Square's business patterns. He is not relevant anymore and does not represent the company. If he was added as we've seen from the datamining. He would be another Mario character and not seen as a Square representative. I agree Geno would be easier to get, but he would not help Square cross promote anything. In terms of money he would only help Square make short term income instead of long term income. Square prefers to put characters that are long term income. Im not saying Geno is impossible, but if we look at Square's past business patterns. He does not for the model of characters they use in other games.

Although, that was where I had my idea of both being possible. I thought that if both could’ve entered, I would’ve assumed SE would’ve pushed for Sora first as the Square Enix newcomer and then have Geno afterwards. This way Sora can be seen as the SE representative to most eyes, and Geno would still be there for the fans and anyone who gets interested in him.

I guess this does go a bit against how SE doesn’t give a lot. However, seeing how big Smash and their hype has been a bit recently, I do think they could be willing to step a little outside of it for Smash. Smash has shown to be very profitable after all.

Its the different stages of grief. Psychologically people have moved from the stages of denial, anger, bargaining, depression and have moved on to acceptance. Its with any character that isn't immediately loved like Piranha plant. First people couldn't believe he was in the game(denial) then they became angry he was in the game(anger). Then they began to say why couldnt we have Waluigi instead of piranha plant(bargaining). Then they said this spells doom for the upcoming DLC(depression). Finally they are excited for Piranha plant and think it could be interesting(acceptance). Im not saying everyone is like this, but it does psychologically happen sometimes.

This is the same way Katalina is being received, people are accepting that she may be in. And are now seeing how she could be exciting in terms of moveset etc.

This argument means nothing after we got characters like Corrin and (as much as it pains me to say it) Bayonetta. Hell, you could even argue the DLC veterans for Sm4sh (excluding Mewtwo for obvious reasons) were generally unknown to anyone who hadn't played Smash before.
The only DLC character you could maybe make the argument people would know is Ryu, but here's the thing: The general audience KNOWS what Street Fighter and Ryu are. The question is, is the general audience INTERESTED in Street Fighter? And I'd argue that, no, they aren't.
So literally every DLC character in Smash history, the general audience either doesn't know or is uninterested in.
Of course, back then Nintendo was basically only selling to Nintendo fans, and they knew this, because by that point we were way into the late stages of the Wii U's life cycle. So perhaps things could be different since the Switch was way more successful, but until further notice, I honestly don't think popularity is going to matter one way or the other.

i tihnk you misinterpeted his argument both Bayonetta AND corrin fit nintendo business practices and direction at their inclusion. guys like Maximillian and other non smash focused people did predict Bayonetta. if you played bayonetta 2 or see my avatar picture the nintedo costumes in bayonetta 1 and 2 scream favoritism and support and interest from Nintendo leadership. she wears daisy and peach outfits and her demon hands and feet summons become bowser's. she uses a chain chomp as a weapon. this board was and has been hostile to her for other reasons but a character that filled the void of devil may cry is not an unknown. upon her reveal, i do not remember people asking who she was at all. and i believe this is 1. she had a game released on wiiu recently 2. her games had not been poorly rated ever. her gamesand seires are important to nintendo both from an investment perspective and a diversity of games in the library one. honestly there may be a chance bayonetta 3 receives something.

corrin was in nintendo's best interest to promote and they've literally done it before with roy and it was a success and that character wasn't even unique at the time and he still became popular.

She grew on some people. Gacha character or not, if Smash is about its characters and its movesets, a character's origin shouldn't detract their chances at being playable.

Personally though, I unironically adore the idea of Arturia as a playable character in Smash. At least as far as element-wielding knights go.

Adding a character because they had an upcoming game is the LITERAL definition of Corrin’s inclusion in Smash.

Bayonetta had enough widespread appeal for people to believe that she legitimately won the ballot.

Smash 4 vets have the benefit of being in previous Smash games, which increases their appeal. Mewtwo specifically is a very popular Pokémon.

And if you’re telling me the gaming community doesn’t know who Cloud Strife is, I don’t know what to tell you.

I know, I also noticed how SE has been doing lately as well, the FGC has been in for quite a ride when Noctis and 2B were announced.

However, isn’t Geno more low hanging fruit compared to Sora, Cloud, and the other more high profile characters? I would assume that it would be easier to get Geno since he isn’t on the same level as them along with him being a lot more correlated with Nintendo. And Nintendo seemed to have been able to get the rights to Geno before, as seen with the Mii Costume in Smash 4 along with spirits in Ultimate.

im in law school trademark for a reference vs an actual use is VERY different. its how high schools in the US use college and pro teams as symbols. but to use the REAL jersey would be a huge difference. costumes are easy we see reference costumes in games everywhere: bayonetta, monster hunter, fortnite, minecraft ect. its not a relevant argument about costumes.

For all we know, that's basically what Castle Siege ended up being. Similarly it seems likely that Ice Top's design is probably what became Summit in Brawl if I had to guess...

You know what all 7 FE characters have in common? None of them were directly pushed by Nintendo as advertisements.

Sakurai wanted Marth.
Sakurai wanted another FE character. We got Roy.
Ike... was new and relevant.
Robin wasn't just another swordfighter.
Lucina was too good for an alt.
Sakurai's staff wanted Corrin.
FE fans complained because Chrom never got his chance.

Despite the number of reps, Nintendo has never stepped in and said, "We need this series to stay popular! Add characters!" People just assume that Nintendo is the ones responsible, when in reality, most FE characters got in because of sheer luck and Sakurai's love for the franchise.

Im not familiar with those two characters/titles you referred. Im assuming they are games from Rare? Im not as familiar with Microsofts practices as I am with Square's so I suppose its possible. I still think its Steve, but I would be happy if its Banjo. And if its Master Chief(not gonna happen) I would be ecstatic, because Samus vs Master Chief is now a reality.

Oh I know its not due to bad relations Mario wasn't in Ralph Breaks the Internet. However not even Bowser was in it, and that was sort of disappointing. I still think Disney and Nintendo are working together on something. No way Nintendo would allow Disney to play a Mario Kart track unless they were allowed to. Nintendo has sued lesser companies for using their music, so no way they would let Disney get away with it unless Disney was allowed to. You never know, but there is some sort of mystery deal taking place between Nintendo and Disney.

Oh I also couldn't help myself when it came to music. However I am very underwhelmed that there is no Akuma song in the StreetFighter track list. At least from what iv seen, I mean even Fei Long got music. And his music is just kind of meh.

Those are two great games from Rare on N64. I doubt a rep from Blast Corps, cause there isn't. But Juno from Jet Force Gemini would be great.. not for Banjo fans though. Besides, Banjo is the somewhat promised MS rep. Umm, let me put it this way, MS business wise is much better than Square. Not as stingy, not as stubborn.. I suppose.

SF got 37 tracks, 32 are new. Wasn't that enough? I looked and yeah, no Akuma. 2 for Fei-Long. I have to look for those later as I really like Fei Long. It's the Turbo cast if I'm not mistaken.. which is not bad. Who else do you like beside Ken and Akuma?
