Okay so does anyone have any info on Spirits of the following:

Spoiler: Spirits?

Musashi (Sushi Strikers)
Cranky Kong
Funky Kong
Ryota Hayami
Monster Hunter (Character)
Style Savvy outside of the first game's stylist

I know that it seems Porky, Tibby, Cross, and Adeline are missing. Those plus the ones in the list above are ones I'm either predicting may have a DLC shot (Musashi, Cranky, and Funky) or make no sense to be missing if they aren't DLC (MonHun). Ryota and Style Savvy I'm just interested in seeing what the rep is.

I know we still aren't sure if Spirits disconfirm fighters. I'm not interested in reviving that debate. I'm just curious is all. Hypotheses.

Cranky's spirit was shown in the last Smash Direct.

I used to think it was a miracle he got into Smash 4 back in his announcement, Now i think it was a LITERAL Miracle he even made it into Sakurai's hands.

The fact that Funky survived the Galeem Beam is great. I see him as having a decent shot if they want to add some Tropical Freeze love to the game. Shame about Cranky - his Pogo mechanic would be a really fun way to fight, and as I've said far too many times before, it's the closest we'd get to Scrooge so I have to support it on principle. I hope we get a remix of his DKC shack theme.

Even though Vergeben and a few other leakers have said "There's a 2nd Square rep"


Is it wrong to have a lack of faith in such a claim when it's very obvious that working with Square probably hurts worse than the time I had a molar extracted?

I honestly really don't think the talks for characters are as simple as these kinds of things we make them out to be. It's possible that the Smash devs never even asked about other spirits outside of Cloud and the SMRPG duo or decided not to push the music considering the general difficulties with FF music. It's possible there are other issues in place.
Like if Verge is correct and there is a 2nd SE rep showing up as DLC more content for them may be showing up there instead. It's also possible that the stuff the other 3rd parties got were things they actively pushed for as wanting to have in the game alongside their character or demanded as part of their rights deals

Just feels like this whole gets thought of in way too simple terms and from a biased perspective, especially since from Sakurai's recounting tmk getting the rights to Cloud was apparently pretty simple and amounted to him wanting him and the other side expressing surprise before Oking it.

What do you expect when dealing with a company that works ass backwards? I honestly ****ing fear for Kingdom Hearts 3, man. So much hype has been built up, but what if it's all for naught?

We're talking about the same company that made so many "good decisions", it ended up costing them $33M.

Even Jigglypuff, Toon Link and Wolf(the last additions of Brawl) were in the after-game of Subspace emissary. It's really saying something when Cloud is in a lower position than that... geez Square.

The ONLY slightly rational train of thought I can muster for a possible reason is it having something to do with Sony. Maybe they have some weird partial ownership of certain elements of FF7 and what Square can and can't do with him.

That, or them not wanting Cloud to distract people from the Remake when that won't be on a Nintendo platform.

But that point is moot when the original FF7 is coming to the Switch and the remake is on Xbox as well, so... I have no idea.

At this point it feels like he's only half there.

With every other third party, we can celebrate so much about their series. With Cloud, we can celebrate... Cloud. Not FF, not even FF7, just Cloud.

It's almost as bad as him not being back, because it makes me feel like he really doesn't belong here.

It is better, yes, but it makes Cloud literally the sore thumb of the roster. He doesn't naturally blend in. It's just massively distracting.

Being optimistic, it’s possible that the reason there’s so little square content in base is because SE wants their stuff to be DLC for money, explaining the SE character rumours.

One does have to wonder if things will change going forward. Square is bringing several FF games to Switch (one of them being an HD remake of a beloved lesser-known title) and I'm assuming this was finalized after most of Ultimate's development. Perhaps the first DLC character being Square is part of this strengthening relationship with Nintendo and the lack of FF7/Cloud love is a product of the old days during Ultimate's development.

... And that is my desperate hope.
