I still find it amusing that Street Fighter and Castlevania got 2 characters before Sonic did.

Amusing and sad. Come on, Sonic has been the most loyal to Nintendo out of all the 3rd parties in this game.

I feel he deserves a second rep, and considering every 3rd party series' second rep have been Echoes, thats why Shadow seemed to make sense. But nope, looks like Sonic fans get the short end of the stick.

Amusing and sad. Come on, Sonic has been the most loyal to Nintendo out of all the 3rd parties in this game.

I feel he deserves a second rep, and considering every 3rd party series' second rep have been Echoes, thats why Shadow seemed to make sense. But nope, looks like Sonic fans get the short end of the stick.

A part of me is kind of glad Shadow isn’t in, it would feel... weird if the second sonic character wasn’t Tails.

To be fair, the both of them have been around before the Sonic franchise has, at least chronologically. This is barring any relationship with Smash Bros.

Ryu and Ken as well as the Belmonts are also enough like each other that making Echoes for them is realizable and cost-effective, whereas Sonic doesn't really have an equal in the same sense that they do. Sure, you have Shadow who's similar-enough appearance-wise, but plays totally differently. Amy meanwhile is also a Hedgehog, but is more of a bruiser from what I've seen. All-in-all, the 3rd-party secondaries shown so far don't count as Uniques, which is a way of getting in some bonuses without "losing" any important seats to unrepresented franchises.

As someone who favors Mega Man over all the other 3rd-party characters so far, I'm quite content with him riding solo from his own franchise. I want to see other characters who aren't repping their series yet. Sorry for sounding like I'm in the minority here...

There are undoubtedly a lot of highly requested characters that were high in the last ballot that haven't shown up yet. So having another poll would just receive up (almost) pretty much the same requests. Bayonetta must have been chosen for Smash 4 in being the average highest requested but after seeing Ridley and King K. Rool in Ultimate, they didn't want Bayonetta to be alone and the upcoming DLC should be no exception. The whole company of Nintendo ought to be aware of the results of the previous poll, NOT just Sakurai! So there's still hope. Makes sense?

I don’t get why they never did a general Ballot, one that lets you vote for any character to be playable in a Smash game regardless of current status.

It’s why the Sm4sh Ballot imo felt limited because of who was left that wasn’t deconfirmed, which why I’m glad they’re not doing one this time.

You can attribute the roles of some "winners" with their current status in Ultimate, though. Some are Spirits, some are Assist Trophies, some are playable, and some are completely MIA. If we go off purely by poll, then surely there would have to be another, right? It'd feel a tad underwhelming, if predictable, that all we get for DLC are characters we picked off a few years back before getting re-acquainted with old faces as well as fresh new ones.

Yeah, I don't get it either. Shadow supporters try so hard to push him as a Unique character with the forced excuse that the franchise has some magical privilege of having two uniques and that other franchises "don't deserve it". Putting bias aside, they completely forget that by their own discretion, they can argue in favor of a different Sonic character overall. Shadow was just a hot topic at the time because his Assist Trophy was MIA and Echoes were a thing, but then Isabelle's announcement turned their heads over and they convinced themselves that Sakurai did the audience dirty because she was "supposed to be an Echo of Villager." Then by twisting their perception of Isabelle, they warped the actual reality behind the character to crusade for Shadow's place in the roster as a Unique, even though Isabelle – a 1st-party character – has nothing to do with Shadow whatsoever. It begs to differ, if they're going to push for a second Sonic rep that's unique, why not Eggman or Tails instead?

Yea, I'm almost positive they won't do another ballot for this game. They already know who's popular based on the last one, and not much has changed since then. It would be pointless.

They'll use the ballot as a factor, perhaps. But holding another poll could have interesting results. With the big guns in and all the veterans back, you'd start seeing varying results with people now wanting their second or third options. They'd have a clearer picture of who the fans want next.

I feel that they think bringing back every veteran and the newcomers we got in the base roster was good enough. And honestly they'd be correct.

I don’t get why they never did a general Ballot, one that lets you vote for any character to be playable in a Smash game regardless of current status.

I would like Knuckles, but I'd argue he'd need more changes from Sonic to feel true to himself, such as being slower and more powerful (I guess like a Dr. Mario situation).

But with Shadow, he already plays exactly like Sonic in games such as Adventure 2 (his debut) and more recently Forces. And of course he's just as fast as Sonic, so I feel he could more easily echo Sonic than Knuckles.
