Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Thanks. Goemon would be it for me. I do have few other wishes but I know they're near impossible to achieve I won't bother.

I think anyhting can be pulled. I mean what was the sense of bringing Bubsy back. Not everything has to be a hard cut. They may choose some over Geno, but that wouldn't be a smart move, as how unprofitable it is. Banjo, I'm not sure of. I'd take anything over Steve though. Unfortunately, according to leaks, that's getting harder and harder to realize.

Oh who doesn't like the Erhu, it has an international appeal. Though I prefer the Japanese Shamisen, if done right. You'll find it in some Goemon tracks.
You're asking someone who prefer cartoonish looks over realistic on Jaw Harps, of course I love those XD love Rayman too, and those specific music as well. Well, Rayman was a wonder in its music choices anyway.
The geniuses in gaming music to me were always Konami and Manami (who did the Mega Man tracks).
You know, I never heard of that city before. Thanks.

Well, one more thing about the Goemon crew. They have a giant wooden robot friend named Impact (who has a mind of his own), they call him when in need. Here's a recent itteration of one of the most famous Goemon tracks, I'm Impact. Done by the lovely fellows of The 8-Bit Big Band.

Edit: Oh I almost forgot. One of the cool features of Goemon games is that he travels around Japan :)
I really like that song you sent in the link its a blend of jazz sound while having asian instruments to give it a blend feel.

As for Bubsy it kind of shows there though he was a product of his time, as the recently released Bubsy game did horrible in sales. As for if Geno would be profitable, to an extent yes he would. However he would be short term profitable instead of long term profitable. Because he has no new games nor will there be. All the money Square would generate would be in one place instead of multiple places. In the case of say Dragon Quest or Kingdom Hearts, there is cross promotion involved plus the money they make from the DLC's purchased. In this scenario they have people becoming interested in their promoted game series and go out and purchase their games. This money would be long term and more of it. Its like this would you want 1,000 now or 35 dollars every week for a year? If you choose the 35 every week for a year it will be slow earnings, but it eventually will be more than the immediate 1,000. My point is eventually people will stop buying the DLC packs, where as if there is cross promotion involved there are higher chances for more income and your'e not putting your eggs all in one basket.

This being said I hope these businesses do not just look at profits and give fans a break. Im not against Geno, or Banjo or any character who hasn't had the spotlight lately. In fact I really want an Advance Wars rep, and specifically I want Will from Advance Wars Days of Ruin. That game came out in 2008 and is the last of the Advance Wars games. So the odds are highly against a rep coming from that series, I still hope though lol. Plus Days of Ruin has some amazing hardcore rock music that could work in Smash.

I love the Shashimen, but the Erhu is my all time favorite instrument. Yes the Jaw Harps are so unique it gives it an Australian feel to it. Oh you should look the city up its extremely beautiful. It looks like something straight out of an anime, with how clean and unique it is. Theres koi fish swimming in the canals all over Gujo Hachiman.

This is Will's theme from Advance Wars Days of Ruin

And that Jaw Harp from the Rayman music, its just too epic. Skip to 1:15 to hear the epic part.

Finally if your'e interested in Gujo Hachiman these vloggers do an excellent job.

This doesn't make any sense though. You're telling me we're apparently going to have a reveal at the VGAs, while NONE of the DLC has been planned yet?

*Cygames and Nintendo in talks suddenly makes a bit more sense*

Oh **** fellas.
I'm going to believe Vergeben on that one. He's sure that the Square-Enix rep is the first one to be shown from what he heard, if they didn't had any plan for DLC, it makes no sense
Especially with Imran now backpedaling, hinting about a Square-Rep, only to say "Well, there no plan"

-Sakurai says DLC plans were already determined during the planning stages of the game in 2015/2016
-This guy says "lol jk they haven't yet"

I think I'll trust the words of the guy actually making the game.
Sakurai didnt say the dlc was already planned back then. He said the initial character roster was already planned. Huge difference.

Please explain immediately, what
Games like Granblue constantly do crossover events with other games and anime.

Off the top of my head, Granblue has done collab events with stuff like:

Tales of

Persona 5

Attack on Titan

Detective Conan

Idolmaster

Etc

Fate collabs with....Fate. The series... does collab events... with itself.

If Steve is realy in Smash , do you think he will be more like...

This

Or This

First Steve please god let it be first Steve...

Also did you know that Steve is oddly the most whitewashed character in all of media, I am literally not joking there’s tons of merchandise with white Steve on it

Next stop at misinformation station:

Imram and ZHuge are saying that Nintendo has yet to start DLC plans for Ultimate. I trust ZHuge but none of this makes sense
Imran said DLC has not been completely chosen. Which obv means some has, and some hasn't. Which is actually believable.

Can't find any comment regarding this made by Zhuge. If you could point me in that direction, that'd be great.

Ah yes, the good old, "my friend works at Nintendo" story.

I hate to say it, but 9 out of 10 times that means it's fake.
It very well may be, I just assumed it was credible based on the people who were backing him up (as in, saying he'd have no reason to lie based on his posts, etc., not that they have the same info), but I feel odd about straight-up saying names.

The guy who shared the rumor also made the Blog Theory thread, though.

Really? I thought the reason Nintendo outlined the pass' total amount of content was because things were already planned.

Oh well, maybe I misunderstood. I wouldn't expect news until E3 if this is true, though.

Because "Fate" is broken up into a ****ton of different anime/novel/games etc.

Even though it's the same series being "Fate", the logic is, "Okay, now we're going to collab with the PS4 game!" or "Now we're going to collab with this novel!"

Did you not read the rest of my post? Marx gets in first before Banana Waffle Dee, then Sakurai gives us an update on Wave 2 using Banana Slamma as the clincher. Marx is part of the $25 bundle while Banpresto Tweedle-Dee is a free sneak-peek bonus for that second wave of 5 characters.

If you're upset at not getting Ban-Dee Namco before Marx well... I dunno what to tell ya :v You still get both so it's a win-win, right? <:v
Yea I understand what you were saying it is just I could never see Marx getting in before Bandana Dee

I don't know/care who ZHuge is, but perhaps he meant that they hadn't initiated their plans yet.

It's totally possible to make a plan but not work on said plan yet. I plan on taking care of the weeds in my front yard with the weed killer I bought two weeks ago still sitting in my garage. But. Y'know.
This is how I interpreted it. Like they could still reveal a character at the VGA's by saying "Hey this guy's gonna be in the game!" but have no full gameplay, maybe a model at most ala Mewtwo. That way the Spawnwave rumor and this can coexist.

PFFFFFFFFF.

Fate collabs with its ****ing self in its own game. Fate is too damn afraid of leaving its own bubble to ever branch out into other things.
Ehhh, I know what you mean, but Nasu has dipped his toes in foreign waters before. Nitroplus Blasters is a good example of a non-Type-Moon video game having Arturia as a guest fighter for instance. If you count current-day French Bread, there's Eltnum's appearance in Under Night In-Birth. Additionally, their characters have been in a Square-Enix arcade-only card game in Japan. I don't think Nasu is afraid so much that there hasn't been a reason to add anyone from his company in Smash until now. We already have the likes of Sonic, Mega Man, Ryu, Cloud, and Simon. I think Arturia has a spot in Smash, but I don't expect her to be in either. She's definitely worthy of being playable though, which is why I think the outcome is totally possible.

Y'know, after all the hubbub of that last direct, I feel like one key detail got glossed over and I need to be publicly happy about it for a second.

FATAL FRAME GOT AN ASSIST TROPHY.

I think the answer to counter this argument is:

"Tsukihime collab when"

Pretty sure Sakurai confirmed they finished the game when he was at the tournament thing in Japan.

PapaGenos sources also said he thinks the Grinch leak was real kek!
Why do you say Sora/Erdrick? Papa come out for either of those 2 or are you just assuming due to Verge?

Gonna have to defend him here. His 3 videos before the Grinch was proven fake CLEARLY stated that Banjo was the only thing his source was certain on. They had zero proof of the other 6 but apparently have heard the names float around, so they assumed it was real. But, Incineroar was also floating around so that's why they were confused about the Grinch leak.

If we are going to call fake on PG's source, wait until Banjo is either confirmed or deconfirmed via DLC, because that's the only thing they hard claimed.

This makes sense. I imagine the first two or three are ironed out by now, but the last one or two are still being decided as Sakurai and the team work with negotiate with Nintendo to see about depicting upcoming games or with third party companies (such as Cygames) about potentially including third party characters. Nintendo is likely finishing up negotiations now and it'll be finalized within the coming weeks.

I never played any of the Fatal Frame games but I am glad a horror series got a bit of representation even though its not a playble fighter.

Actually, a defense toward Fate's theoretical representation in Smash: Its icon would likely reference the Pendragon emblem, or the original logo from the original visual novel. Regardless of what it uses, it's likely to be something universal to all of Fate and its spinoffs, much like Fire Emblem and its Falchion icon, or Final Fantasy with its fairly humble "FF" icon.

Ah... Now it makes more sense.
And the CYGAMES discussion make even more sense

>Sakurai go to Square-Enix first around 2016 while renewing Cloud licence, Get first licence and people start to slowly work on it, explaining why names can be heard in the office, Square Throw fake names, Nintendo is doing the same, protecting that characters
>Then he go to microsoft (with Steve maybe?) around begining of 2018?
>Around september talk with Cygames were ongoing and maybe failed
>DLC 4/5 aint decided yet?

I'm getting flashbacks to people claiming that he said there would be no new DK content when in reality he sent a PM to LoZ18 asking about something a single source told him, that LoZ then publicized without Verge's consent. Vergeben never even intended to make that claim public.
People may rail on Verg for his character, which I get, but his vetting process is actually well done. For Smash at least. Though he does hinder it by stuff like this. It's not technically his fault for just sharing things he's heard, but given the fanbase's penchant for obfuscating claims, he should exercise more caution.

Pretty much. The only outlier to that Im aware of was Fate//Tiger Colosseum Upper that had Arcueid and Neko-Arc from Tsukihime/Melty Blood as characters. The former showing up as a magical girl and the latter being an antagonist in the game iirc
