People are forgetting the point that this is the last smash direct. They're gonna cover everything from spirits to the alternate modes and trophies, or maybe even stage builder.

I'm not so sure if a 40-minute timeslot is a guarantee for 7 newcomers.

Going back to 50 fact some stuff took less than a minute to a couple minutes

Spirits might get the longest part with like 10ish minutes give or take

Everything else is probably like a 1-3 minutes depending on importance

It already was in. It's part of Bridge of Eldin, which I *think* is in Ultimate too. (I don't feel like looking it up.)

Smash 4 Direct had a total of 39 minutes amd the only newcomer it announced was Greninja. Time isn't indicative to the number of reveals at all.

Devil's advocate : There were 4 veteran reveals however which had some time dedicated to them.

Devil's advocate to my devil's advocate: Their segments were akin to the echo segments from August. If we get these newcomers we should expect equal length to the Simon segment (-richter) which was about 5-10 minutes. That's easily 25-40 minutes for just the uniques, yeah not going to happen regardless.

Yeah I hear you. But you have to remember that most of the people adamant that the leak is real are probably 12-17. I definitely believed a lot more leaks during that age. It's not that they're less intelligent by any means, but I think it's much easier to let emotions flare, and easier to get hyped about stuff. I've seen how crappy reality is for 10+ more years than them, which is why it's easier for me to believe the leak is fake, whereas they aren't as poisoned and cynical. I can't blame them at all! (And if you're on TeamReal and near my age, I'm not trying to insult, you just have a less cynical view of the world, which has advantages)

If the Grinch Leak is true:
TeamReal: Be happy, celebrate, and maybe do some (well intentioned) teasing of people on TeamFake.
TeamFake: Don't get bitter that you were wrong, just smile and say "Okay, they got us" and admit defeat. No reason to complain!

If the Grinch Leak is fake:
TeamReal: Don't flame the forums or talk crap about insiders, Sakurai, Nintendo, etc for not getting characters you wanted. Just admit that the leaker did an amazing fake and fooled a lot of people.
TeamFake: Don't even talk about it. A lot of people will be upset, and taunting them will only cause this thread to get shut down. Have compassion for all of the disappointed fans.

I think if we all agree to be bound to the Whoville Contract (it's what I'm calling this), I think we will all be fine!

Reminder that there's numerous insiders that have come out and basically have hinted at more characters than just two being in the game as well.

No matter what happens, credibility is gonna be ruined for lots of people.

Sooo my idea of what this direct could be:
Starter trailer is Ken and Incineroar, The trailer and Sakurai talkin bout em lasts 3 minutes.
Then 5 minutes of talkin bout Ridley, K. Rool and Isabelle
Let’s say Spirits lasts 15 minutes
Then 7 minutes of stuff like ATs, Items and maybe a stage editor?
Then, a hype *we’re so close* trailer like at the end of the 50 fact Extravaganza and then, we get a trailer of the first batch of DLC: Banjo & Kazooie, Sora and Steve

I don't think the issue is craming 5 trailers into 40 minutes, technically that can definitely be done while also covering the rest of what we need to know, but I think it's incredibly difficult to have a properly flowing presentation at the same time, which begs the question why they'd save 5 newcomers and 2 echoes for the same presentation when we've just gone through almost 3 months where we only got a single newcomer. This was the basis of my initial skepticism of the leak, and something that I still haven't been able to shake off of me, I just can't see the point of keeping all of these newcomers until the end when the presentation itself is only going to be really disjointed, the logical move both from that and a PR standpoint would be to show them gradually.

Y'know, despite my excessive ****posting in this thread throughout this whole Grinch saga, I really hope that the Smash community can keep it's cool with whether or not this direct confirms the leak. The fact this whole Team Fake vs Team Real fiasco has gone to the point where it's created a lot of division within the Smash community is kinda sad to watch now.

I only wish that, regardless if that god damn Dr Seuss character has actually leaked the full roster or not, the community can all put it aside our differences and remember what unites us together in the first place; our love for Smash.

There are gonna be 130 newcomers in the direct, so I'd imagine some of the trailers have multiples.

Insiders are denying the veracity of the leak but are claiming a similar number reveals at this point. I wouldn't be surprised if it's between 5-7 regardless

Quick thing, while this is a quick way to explain away why so many people are 100% belief, I don't believe this at all. A lot of users on here are pretty into the leak, most users on this site are older than 18, and from what I've seen they aren't usually that young. DEFINTELY not as young as 12.

I am unsure right now, given the franchise's current status this year. But the possibility of Isaac being playable makes me wanna re-consider how Sakurai selects new Nintendo IPs for playable characters.

It is interesting that the Direct is "roughly 40 Minutes long" the August Direct was 27 Minutes. E3 Smash news was 26. Depending on whether this goes over or under could tell us whether or not the Grinch Leak is true. Too bad we won't know that until, y'know, the Direct ends...

Compare that to the Smash fact video that came out when the Wii U was ready to be released. That Direct had only 35 minutes so for them to show 40 minutes sounds perfect for that amount of time to focus on Smash entirely

I'm not sure why the common logic is that we probably can't get 7 character reveals in the Direct. 40 minutes of airtime is enough to show off a lot of material, not to mention the possibility that they could start revealing smaller pieces of new information in the blog.

Because even with the hype of 40 minutes of Smash, for some people, that's not enough and they need to be assholes to bide their time.

The one thing that I'm going to regret of the "team" thing is the guaranteed bull**** tribalism of "Told you sos" and "salt lovers", regardless of which "side wins". Thankfully, I can distract myself with Smash hype and ignore it.

I don't think anyone has claimed there's a similar amount of reveals left, by and large they've just said that some of the characters are in, some aren't, some are ATs, and some characters that are in aren't on the banner leak. In theory that could still mean all we get is Ken, Incineroar and Geno (which would still be great mind you).

Another nice thing to remember is that we had almost an entire year and a half of Smash 4 reveals.

We only have had about half a year for Smash Ultimate, and we had months of nothing just like Smash 4.

They had the time to dedicate a lot of time to other stuff than newcomers with Smash 4, and since this is the final one for Ultimate, every fighter is going to be revealed.

Whether that means 2 fighters or 7, they're all going to be announced Nov 1st. Pretty safe to say that we won't get anything at the VGA unless Sakurai says they still have another fighter or it's a DLC announcement.

Ok so I did the math and assuming the grinch 7 is real and each character takes 3 minutes to go over, that is 21 minutes of the 40 minutes. That leaves 19 minutes to talk about the story mode, the new stages, and the new items and any other michilanious bits of information which would be plenty of time for them to go over that. I would say that there definitely will be more charcters revealed tomorrow besides ken, Inceniror, and square character so buckle up guys!! It is gonna be exciting!!!
