Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

The Last Jedi was not just a bad Star Wars movie; it was a bad movie, period. While it had interesting elements (the mind link between Rey and Kylo Ren at the forefront), the pacing issues, poor script and lack of logical thinking by some characters completely undermine the film (the 30-40 minute Po, Admiral Holdo and casino subplot being one of the worst major setpieces I've seen in a long time for a movie).
I don't know if this is really the right place to have this discussion, but sure....

Okay, now THIS is an interesting question:
If you were Sakurai, what third party character(s) would you try and go through to get in Smash?
2B, Banjo Kazooie, Reimu (why not?) and of course, Rottytops. ;)

Just have GoldenEye being rereleased be the selling point
Good luck solving those licensing issues. I expect you'll have a lot of fun with it. :)

There's a reason why I like to call Let's Go "Baby's First Pokemon".

It is clearly meant for either casuals or people who aren't necessarily fans on the series.

True, and I get that. I mostly crap on it because I think it's funny. I know it's not meant for me.

But a lot of people are afraid that if this game sells well (and trust me, it will) the over-simplification and mobile game mechanics will permanently effect the main series games, a fear that isn't quite unfounded.

To be pedantic...Pokemon is geared towards children anyway.

Counterpoint: Pokemon as a series is already meant for children and casuals.

Let's Go appears to be a whole new level of not-challenging, but let's not kid ourselves into thinking core Pokemon games are satisfying to play for their challenge. It's about as stress-free as a JRPG could possibly be. That's a big reason for its enormous worldwide appeal.

Yeah but I could play past Pokemon games fine. It's like a good family movie, sure they're geared towards kids but adults can watch it and enjoy it too.
This is the first time i've ever really felt out of place with a Pokemon game. I look at it and feel like I don't belong, which has never happened before.

And on that same note, I know plenty of adults interested in Let's Go.

Yeah it can be fun from time to time, but Pokemon is already the "RPGs for Babies" game, so the fandom calling a game within the series exactly that is funny to me.

I'm talking about me, pal. I never said my personal experience was universal.
I wasn't talking about you pal, I was talking in the context of the conversation/subject in general.

I'm revoking your latest birthday for that assumption.

Me too. One of my longtime Xbox friends is actually very excited about it because it fits his "working two jobs to be able to afford a kid" routine. He can just boot it up, catch a few nostalgic Pokemon, turn it off, no stress.

Also he's always had this weird thing with Eevee that I've never asked too many questions about.

ridely will be a decent character in competitive play but there is not way he has a good matchup with these combo characters. im alrteady looking at bayonetta changes and predicting she will have exclusive ridley only combos. i expect ryu and shiek to as well.
i do not think ridley will be a high tier or better because i think he will lose too many Mus at character select screen.

Well, you know how they released Star Fox 2 on the SNES classic?

What if they did something similar with the N64 Classic, and allowed you to play something along the lines of, Zelda Gaiden?
I almost guarantee that in the US that secret game is going to be Sin & Punishment.

...And as long as that, Majora's Mask, Paper Mario, and something like Mischief Makers or Banjo-Tooie is on as well it'd be a day one buy for me. Especially if it's hackable like the SNES Mini because the N64 is so hard to emulate and the Virtual Console worked like a dream.

I agree it's an rpg for babies, so why baby-fy it even further? That's my issue.
I know the specifics, "it's for kids and Go players, tons of people like it, you're just a fake fan, Pokemon isn't for you anymore", etc.
This is my opinion, alright? It's what I feel about this game. I'm not telling anyone to feel the same.

The virtual console is actually the sole reason I wouldn't ever consider buying an N64 mini. I purchased many N64 games on my Wii, and get to play them with a Gamecube controller. I'm good.

As a person working in childcare...

If they want to appeal to kids...

They finally nailed it. This is the right difficulty.

When I worked with fourth graders, one who played almost nothing but Pokémon thought X and Y were too hard.

That should put things into perspective. A lot of fans can't put themselves into the eyes of a kid anymore. Kids aren't dumber then before or anything like that. But you need to remember that many kids only got through older Pokémon games because you can brute force it.

To keep it related to Smash, do you think we will see Pokémon Go music in Smash?

I've been playing Pokemon Go for a few months, but I can't remember much of the music.
Maybe one of the generic songs that play while you're walking around?

Since we have Fire Emblem Heroes music I wouldn't be surprised

I guarantee all this PR blowback will dissipate once the 2019 game(s) are announced. Like nothing ever happened.

I agree.

At the end of the day, despite my many issues with it, Let's Go looks like a really inoffensive game. In a few months I won't even be talking about it.
Besides, who'll want to talk about boring old Kanto when there'll be new Pokemon to discuss?

I mean I really wanted a PKMN Yellow remake but not the way Lets Go did it. Which is a shame because the idea I had will probably never happen now.

But yeah this whole thing is going to blow over and no one's going to care. I guess that's more of a commentary on society at large though haha.

I feel it. That said, the idea of a Mini that can reliably emulate loads of games without the need to inject the WADs is nice. I only managed to buy a handful of N64 games on VC at the time. I will miss playing them with a Wavebird though. Maybe it'll have other controllers that can be used with it?

Oh, uh, Smash. I wish Metal Cavern was in Ultimate. I still can't believe they'd lock one if the best non-Mushroom Kingdom levels away like that in 64.

I honestly can't wait.

Despite defending my opinions about this game several times, I don't wanna argue about Pokemon! I love Pokemon!
I really hate what Let's Go has done to the fanbase. But I know once we see the new generation this will all be a thing of the past.

We're probably not ever gonna get a proper Yellow remake though, which does suck.

I highly disagree as someone who played Blue as a 7 year old in 98', without having to grindand without access to guides/internet. And I had my levels evenly distributed among my 6 Mons as well.

Pokemon Let's Go... eh.

It exists, I guess, but I don't really care for it too much? It actually looks, pretty fun to me, although somewhat simple.
But, that's coming from a person who's only played the first Generation. :p

How rough is it?
Managing ten different college applications with a variety of questions across four states with their essays ranging from 250 words to 750 words, along with trying to make my own 650 word common app essay unique and filling in each section asking me about my entire school career is tiresome.

I thought I’d be immune to senioritis but I’m already feeling its effect.

Geez, that sounds really rough.

I wonder if it's tougher or easier for someone who's been Homeschooled?..

Even better. Applying to college is a nightmare. >_>

Source: am currently applying to college
I wish you luck my friend. Hope you get into your top choice.

How rough is it?
It depends on where you apply. Trying to get into Ivy League schools (like I attempted) is extremely difficult but doable. As long as you find a school that you can envision yourself going to, the work will be worth it (take it from someone who just started college)

I like Sonic 06.
I like Sonic 06...

For it's music

And that one scene when Shadow kicked Silver in the back of the head (I love Shadow in this game)

And.... that's about it.
