The nebulous "second square enix rep", base or dlc, puts him in a better spot than some.

I still think that Geno will be under the Super Mario Series as Smash never differencied the Mario RPG series before and the Mario&Luigi music was always under the Mario icons. Also, I have to pull a tiny problem if Geno get his own Icons/Music icons

The stages.
In smash Ultimate,there the new function about being able to play all music from a series into that series's stage.
All Mario Music in Mario stages.
And the Second Mario Icons being for the Mario Karts Stages.

However, if Geno is in as his own Icons, and musics, it means:
- Geno get no "Music Icons" but a "Character Icons" and his Music will still be in Mario stages. Kinda like Pac-man's Namco Remix with just a Music Note icons but this shoot down the Music Theory? Maybe not? I'm not sure
-Geno get a new stage, new music and all that Jazz
-Geno get no new Music
-Geno isn't in because of the Music theory

That's the four option I can think of

Didn't Vergeben also say that he thinks the SE rep is a controversial pick, so he wants to make sure it's true before telling us? If so, it makes me wonder if it's not Geno

He didn't.
He just never say anything until multiple source tell him the name.
So far his main source said that YES there is a Square-Enix character. But didn't gave name.
A random person then came and "confirmed" stuff that Vergeben knew and said a name.

Vergeben decided to keep quiet until he get more source to confirm the name. He don't want to get Backslash by saying that name if that character isn't in.

No, anytime he says or metions contrevorsy he is reffering to the fact that he isn't 100% who it is and doesn't want to reveal it, to be incorrect and then start controversy.

He didn't say the SE rep was controversial, just like he never said the Pokemon one was.

Like, at first I disliked , but then I started liking them after seeing fans who like them.

Colonel: King K. Rool may be reptilian, but he has no relation to the Koopas, Snake. You should also know very well not to underestimate any opponent whether they're small or large. He can very well crush you easily if you're not careful.

Snake: That aside, look at the size of that blunderbuss he has, it's shooting out literal cannonballs!

Colonel: Not only that, but he can use it just like a vacuum to suck the cannonballs back up, as well as other fighters, and whatever they may literally throw at him. He also has other tricks up his sleeve, including throwing his crown like a boomerang, and using a helicopter backpack to get up in the air.

Snake: Jeez, and I thought he was just essentially a brainless oaf, but if he's able to make things like those, then he's clearly smarter than he looks.

Colonel: However, it's not enough for him to defeat Donkey Kong, as he always loses to him and his friends every time he puts a plan into motion.

Snake: He constantly gets defeated by Donkey Kong of all heroes? He can't even think to wear more than just a tie! Now I'm not sure what to even say anymore...

"Controversial" is highly subjective. Specific to Smash Bros, it could mean anything from "highly detested/has active detractors against this happening" (Minecraft content, Incineroar over insert muh favorite here, more third parties that are "in over other Nintendo franchises," Goku/not video game characters, etc.) to "it's not who people thought were going to be the obvious choices" (BWD, SK, Isaac, Geno, Xenoblade/Arms newcomers, Banjo, Shantae, Ashley/Waluigi, and so on).

Everything is more or less people filling in the blanks on their own. Prior to their addition, I'm sure many would have seen getting so much Konami representation as "controversial" given the state of the company recently. But now that it's in/we can see it for ourselves, no one such much as bats an eye let alone question it.

still, when he said an 7th gen pokemon that wasn't lyncarock, decidueye or mimikyu... it kinda was pretty controversial... everyone was riding on teh decidueye high horse... and detractors of that centered around the 2 most marketed alolan pokemons, mimikyu and lycanrock...

so.. yeah.. at least in my head, incineroar fits perfectly on what the smash fanbase would consider a controversial character...

Super Mario RPG is only one game. Considering that Geno got the main Mario icon for his DLC Mii Fighter costume in 4, I believe that he will get the mushroom icon if he joins the roster.

Like, at first I disliked , but then I started liking them after seeing fans who like them.

Opposite happened with Ridley and K.Rool.

Really Didn't know who was when he was revealed during E3 2013. His fan base helped introduce me to him and his amazing games
Also, Like you. I started to like K. Rool a lot less after His fanbase was gunning for him in the ballot... It didn't help matters when they actually succeeded... I Just don't really get the hype for him...

K. Rool's support back in the Wii U days got me interested in playing DK64, which is the game that made me want him in Smash.

Other than that, I don't think there's any character that's fanbase and support made me interested in. Bandana Dee, maybe? I pretty much just latch on to whatever I'm interested in at the time of a Smash game's development, lol.

To be fair other Nintendo series also got the whole x treatment , like Warioware in that same trailer.

This really shows how much Sakurai really wanted Geno in smash though. I really can't see him not being in the game, at least as dlc.

Edit: Actually though, it's been my opinion Geno could be counted seperately, so I'm not against it.

I agree completely, which is why I think if he were added, he'd be a part of the SMRPG series and not the Super Mario series

However, series that only have one game are thrown in the misc. section. Geno will get that treatment if he doesn't represent the main Mario series.

I actually only knew X as Mega Man. Fans definitely made me like classic Mega Man more.
Yeah, I didn't really liked him prior to that but I was talking about what you said. Becase of that his inclusion left a bad taste.

Sorry about the delay with the Lucas codec, folks, but school started up again, but I've got everything organized now, and codecs should be popping up every now and then. They will not be daily anymore, but I might write more than one whenever I post them on here. I will eventually update my masterpost in my signature, but I do have class in about an hour. However, at the mention of my masterpost, I will be rearranging it by fighter order to make organization and finding certain codecs easier.

I'm not saying there are no Isaac supporters who act out of order, I'm sure there are somewhere, just that I've never had a bad experience with an Isaac supporter myself. Which is impressive yes, considering how long they've been around.

That one actually has a basis in the DK games though, with the DK barrels or DK's necktie. I just find it odd that they made Cloud have a generic FF icon when everything, both in-game and out, only makes reference to Final Fantasy VII. Licensing's fun. Street Fighter's a little more excusable, sense the series doesn't really have a lot of things that work as an icon, but the punch button icon could've worked. Still not terrible though.

And then we have Snake, whose icon got changed likely because of copyright and not wanting to acknowledge Kojima or something
