So what you're saying is both sides have an even amount of blank spots or am I being stupid?

Obviously I don’t officially know but when trying to make a promo image, you would like to make it look good from all sides. The main theory is assuming there is a 9th fighter on the other side or there has to be a 9th fighter to finish the final group of 9. My belief is it there is one blank spot on that side and two on the side we see. You can’t split 69 slots between two sides evenly so one side will have an extra but from a sense of symmetry, having one blank we can’t see in a non final box art to make it look aesthetically nice makes more sense than leaving 2 or 3 openings on one side and 0 on the other.

I looked into it a bit more and apparently they wanted credit for breaking the news that they existed, not that they were mad that other publications were showing it off and that they had exclusive rights in terms of showing it.

Yeah, I think that's probably fair. I remember back when FE Heroes was first released, and I was one of, if not the first person to find the art of Robin and Tharja in Santa outfits buried in the game data. One of these Nintendo news sites jumped on it (I forget which one), didn't give us credit, and suddenly the FE Wiki server was getting hammered by people hotlinking the images but never actually mentioning or linking to us in the article, and bringing the site down under the weight. So yeah, I can understand them being irritated by that.

I still don't think they're correct to label them as "exclusives" given that literally anyone else with press site access could have published them first, but I can see where they're coming from.

It's not necessarily Ken, but he's more likely than Medusa, Zack or Ms. Pac-Man (The latter of which already shows up on a stage)

Can I just say that I really wish the blog wasn’t a snore fest? All the information is stuff we know, whereas the excitement of the previous games was that something new could get shown off. Not that I would have rather had characters revealed through it, but even new items/costumes would be great imo.

Considering they are revealing all characters, and have already shown POTENTIALLY all stages, I know we’ll see everything before launch. But eh, it’s still boring.

Or just trust that it isn’t a belief. We(most of us I think?) are just keeping it in mind because we do have a reason to pay attention to it.

No one that I know of has wanted to talk about it other than to clarify what it is objectively or try and give reasons not to believe it.
More than a few of us agreed last night we should tone it down on the box because it won’t get anywhere.
We’re just waiting on confirmation(or hopefully the opposite) and keeping it on the back burner.

The TL:DR theory going around is based on the pattern of characters on the box, the color scheme arrangements of the characters and arrangement of the Echoes/Characters on the other side seem to point to Ken being on the other side next to Ryu.

It's not baseless, but I personally still think it's silly that we're reading so much into a placeholder box.

Seriously, this is ridiculous that you would think nothing of it or actively make fun of SG for being up in arms about it. Since when is plagiarism acceptable?

Why can’t Nintendo Everything simply mention or credit Source Gaming for the information? You DO realize that not giving credit effects SG’s bottom line, right? All those cool articles they give us (translated better than Nintendo Everything can provide, no less) would cease if they don’t maintain the support they need.

I would say i’m biased because i’m an English teacher, but plagiarism or somebody stealing your work is bull**** and shouldn’t be encouraged by ANYONE. To laugh at somebody for being upset about having their work go uncredited seems a tad...weird, to be honest. I can’t imagine finding humor in that.

Like I said, i’m sure if it were YOUR work being stolen or going uncredited, you’d be just as pissed.

To make this Smash related, I think it’s pretty cool that characters are getting alternates. The Yoshi costume is pretty awesome, and even though it maintains the Yoshi look, it will definitely stand out. Hopefully there are others like it.

It's not as cut and dry as you say. The information and renders were on Nintendo's Press site for weeks according to SG themselves. They just decided to ask Nintendo if it was okay to share them. It was never "their exclusive information" to begin with, as they tried to pass it off as.

What SG CAN complain about is the fact that NE only decided to make an article after SG did. Clearly NE weren't as vigilant if they hadn't noticed this info yet SG had.

Let me make it clear that I appreciate SG for everything they do, I often watch their discussion videos as I feel they do give good takes. Push I'm less fond of but I can still admit he does good work and oftentimes his translations are taken without proper sourcing, which must be infuriating. Them complaining about another news site reporting on news that was available to both of them from the start is ridiculous to me, and unless there's some more information I don't know about that's what I'm sticking with.

In regards to the Nintendo Everything drama, the best evidence that they didn't get the renders from Nintendo is that they were missing a few renders and, get this, had Path of Radiance Ike's render instead of the newly released Radiant Dawn Ike render.

The fact that Newcomers 'must' be shown off in a Direct/announced ahead of time and can't just randomly appear like in Brawl's days is lame.

Also, on the subject of taking things without sourcing as the original material, I am the one that put together the smash ballot poll collection data 3 years ago during the ballot and the number of people who used the data without sourcing it and taking credit as there own was huge following the smash direct. It sucks when you put in so much time and effort into a project and people take the results and claim them as their own. Seeing sites reporting this person or that person as the source can get to you when you did all the leg work. With regards to the crafted yoshi, if nintendoeverything wanted credit, they should have contacted nintendo just like sourcegaming did to get the right to publish. Just because someone else that had access to the press kit published it, you should still source them as the place because you didn’t break the story to the masses.

They are all official and real. They are from a press release of Nintendo's. Source Gaming broke the news for us.

To be fair, it would be easier to remove a sprite than a 3-D model (especially when the model interacts with the stage, as with Pauline and Tingle's cases).

They're official renders taken from the Nintendo press site; I can confirm myself that they're the real deal.

The spat between Source Gaming and Nintendo Everything is due to NE posting a news article on the renders but not crediting SG as the original source of the information; it's kind of a case where both sides are in the wrong to some extent, because SG were claiming the images as "exclusives" even though they were up on the press site for anyone with access to use, but NE only posted their article after SG did theirs, making it clear that NE got the info from SG rather than the Nintendo press site. So technically SG aren't the original original source, but they were the first ones to break the news, so they ought to at least get some credit for that.

Source Gaming also got permission to share from Nintendo themselves. So not only did Source Gaming let people know it was there, but by extension gave everyone permission to share the information by okaying it with Nintendo.

It's pretty ****ty to claim you were the ones to discover it. However, as far as I know, in no way illegal so it's not like anything can be done against them. Nintendo already ok'd the release.

You'd need to ask the Tetris Company for that. Similarly to the Will Wright and SimCity content case, they're tough/expensive to deal with if you want anything other than a song or an AT.

Even then, we almost had a Dr.Mario stage in Smash4 from what I remember.

If the rights didn't work out, they could just reskin it to be Dr.Mario and throw in the Viruses.

No Bandana Dee, no Tails so no I don’t like it. Also too many unneeded characters.
