What if an October Smash direct is the one where the rest of the characters are revealed? And it's indeed only two more?

I get hyped because either Ken is in, or more characters are added into the game's roster; most of the Smash community will have nuclear plant tier meltdowns and everyone that believes in the box theory will get to brag and say "I told you so!".

I think the reason why I'm willing to accept this is because I don't want a repeat of last time, where I was in extreme denial that the ESRB leak was the final roster and was convinced that Mewtwo and Ice Climbers hadn't been unlocked yet.

Still not sold on the box theory, knowing all but two characters(one of which is an Echo) three motnhs before the game comes out is unlike Sakurai when he paced the Smash 4 reveals so that they sped up as the release approached. To have that momentum be slowed down now makes no sense, regardless of who the final neecomers would be.

Same here and after the Castlevania music leak. I doubt Nintendo would wanna screw that up again. Why would they suddenly release this box in the first place if that wast he case?

I'm absolutely 100% satisfied with what we have + Ken and Incineraor as a final roster (I've even warmed up a bit more to unique Isabelle), but there's one thing I'm a little confused on. Taking away however I felt about Skull Kid, Geno, Bandana Dee, Banjo, or Isaac, there's one single newcomer I'll legitimately be shocked about if they don't make it.

Shadow.

Between the AT being missing and replaced, and Richter (plus Ken) proving 3rd parties can have Echoes, Shadow legitimately felt like such a definite thing. I don't even really desire his inclusion but he was one of the very few I full-on expected at this point.

(And now I can run away with an even 80 posts, hyesssssssss)

So I think that if it's true that they only show the characters that are revealed up to the next direct, that still would mean there would be no more third party characters after Ken, as in past games every third party character has been on the back of the box art.

Why do we all assume Shadow is 'replaced'?

Yeah, we haven't seen him, but it's not like series can't have multiple ATs.

Honestly I was thinking more Little Mac is on the ring stage and is dispatched or killed by Incineroar. Then Ken shows up and the two fights.

Ah, but Robin and Lucina's trailer confirmed Captain Falcon was returning. While not a newcomer, that was a cross reveal in its own right.



And I really doubt it. Look at how FRONT LOADED these reveals were. If Keniroar was gonna be the last bunch, it was going to pale in comparison to Ridley and K.Rool regardless.

Literally nothing points to Isaac. The only reason people even speculated Isaac was due to jokes in poor taste about the earthquake.

And if it’s Alolan Marowak or Salazzle(fat chance) I’d be stoked. Incineroar is cool, though. I won’t be disappointed either way. Smash is just epic, regardless.

It's way more likely for him to be just gone than him still being in there.

I bet you right now if Shadow and Knuckles were both ATs we would've seen promo pictures of them with Sonic because that's just how they do things.

Here's my take on the box theory - It's probably because Ken and Incineroar will be the final characters revealed before the box is printed and shipped out. The final characters will probably be revealed too close to release for them to put them on the box.

They'd design the box with all the characters in the game on it. To not do that would just be bad design.

This whole box thing were as much BS as the chairs were. Like being that the Castlevania music was leaked. Nintendo wouldn't risk another leak emerging again. One of the reasons why I don't believe the box theory.

Smash is not like other fighting or crossover games, Sakurai makes as sure as he can be to keep the roster locked behind very closed doors. Sure, it gets leaked sometimes but it's never telegraphed by Nintendo themselves. FEW is a good example of a roster just being entirely leaked by the boxart, and I've seen some games confirm a character's presence before their official confirmation because they just showed the ****ing UI.
Sakurai has learned from past mistakes such as the Sticker Leak from Brawl, Ganon in the Smash 3DS commercial and such, and I very much doubt he would let the final newcomer count slip like this.
