Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

What popularity list? Most of the time when I see discussion on which pokemon should be added it's always either Decidueye or gen 8 mon. (not gonna lie though, Buzzwole would be awesome)
There were two images that got posted a couple days back that showed the top 15 most popular 7th generation Pokemon. Decidueye isn't even on the list, and yet Rowlet is ranked #1.

Pokemon popularity poll results in Japan
Got the other scan for the Nintendo Dream poll

Having no 15th affects my OCD badly.
When is there ever a "Top 14" instead of a "Top 15"?

Decidueye isn't nearly as popular with the Pokemon fans as he is with the Smash fanbase. I know Decidueye supporters probably hate it when this is brought up, but a lot of his supporters are rooting for a grass starter rather than Decidueye himself.

Even though I agree with you, I wouldn't pay too much attention to that poll, as it only represents of a small number of Pokemon fans.

Stop acting like that poll means something for Smash. It doesn't.
Sakurai probably decided on the roster waaay before that poll.

I'd rather have Treecko, Grovyle, or Sceptile, if we really need a playable Grass-type Pokemon. However, this would probably make the Blaziken fans feel jealous.

Interesting. Did not expect to see Togedemaru or Pyukumuku that high. Though like Cosmic77 said, that only represents a small portion. Plus Decidueye's inclusion in Pokken might carry some weight.

I just had a nasty realisation...

This game will likely have it's own amiibo line...

It's too bad that Jigglypuff and Greninja aren't even Pokken Tournament contenders.

I feel like the amiibo for Smash 4 veterans would be compatible with this game, so it shouldn't be as bad on your wallet.

...Though I wouldn't mind a Captain Falcon amiibo that doesn't have an awkwardly-placed plastic stand running up his leg...

He could just go back to using his artwork pose from F-Zero GX.

I'm personally hoping for Mimikyu myself, though considering that Greninja was included before we know it existed, I wouldn't rule out a gen 8 Pokemon just yet. Especially if it gets featured in the upcoming movie and has a workable design.

I'm probably not the first to share this, but this gave me chills and at the end it had me laughing at the dude on the ground dead. Footage live from New York yesterday:

Even my quiet, reserved self wanted to cheer lol.

It's kind of unfortunate that his GX art, or any of his character art for previous Smash games would have worked perfectly, but in the game that we get something like this, his render has him kicking with his leg extended, giving him a pose that's a pain to work with.

Looks like it is finally time to start posting in this board. I've been purposely holding off until we got some sort of confirmation.

Am honestly 50/50 at this point between a port or a new game. My bias would prefer an updated port as I'd rather not deal with the stress of character cuts nor am I interested in buying a new line of Smash amiibo beyond newcomers. 3DS/Wii U had as prefect of a roster as most could hope for and I'd rather not see that lost so soon after development ended.

E3 is probably going to make or break discussion based on what is announced. That said it's awesome to have SWF active again.

Just imagine how atrocious Rayman's amiibo would look if he somehow made the playable cut...

And people thought the stand on the SSB Link amiibo looked bad.
I think Nintendo needs to make the Smash Switch characters do neutral poses, not action poses.

Or at least start making Smash Switch amiibo cards.

On second thought, it could be a new game. I just read Sakurai's tweet, and also this:

Here's to hoping this means franchise reboot.

Now's a good a time as any.

What is there to reboot though? The core gameplay is fine, the games are fine, Smash 4 did very well. Reboots only happen to failures, or mixed games, Nintendo has no reason to rock the boat. Removing characters also would be a huge mistake, they'd get torched for doing that.

If you want a simpler Smash, than HD remasters would be the most likely bet.

Where are you getting "franchise reboot" from?
Tbh after seeing SNK Heroines, I sort of hope Smash Bros can have a spinning off, called... Super Smash Sisters, I mean this name was originated from Palutena back in Kid Icarus Uprising.

Franchise reboot? Smash 4 wasn't a huge failure.
Success or failure has nothing to do with it. It's more of a chance to try something fresh with the franchise, and undo things that are weighing the series down.

Like clone characters, or characters with missed potential for example.

Go through my history of posts, and read some of what I've said in the past ITT, I don't feel like repeating myself, and I already went into detail. Sorry.

Would happily take a reboot. A smaller roster without a lot of fluff or 3rd Parties would be welcome.
The Link shown in the trailer is obviously BotW Link, and you can see his sheath being fixed for right-hand position. So that Link is right-handed, not a leftie like most Links. Which is good weight against the idea that it could just be a skin. Meaning, either we're getting a 3rd Link, OR this could be a reboot.

I'm leaning for the latter. The new Link, and the logo harking back to OG Smash seem to hint at that.

I personally would like a smaller roster of like 30 characters, Nintendo only, all revamped, with very distinct movesets, viable custom moves, and new mechanics.

So we'll see I guess.

I think we are seriously digging to the bottom of the barrel if Smash logo made of fire = reboot because the 64 version had it.
