I personally would prefer Smash stick to video game characters. However, if a non-video game character ever gets in, I doubt it'd bother me all that much. At the end of the day, we can all play as the characters we like and ignore the ones we don't. Just my two cents on the matter.

I respect him as a character but he simply ain't one of the big shots. Not even in Japan seeing as Godzilla is way more iconic.

Same way that Pikachu is also a movie character, and ROB originated as a toy.

The World isn't black and white and I think Sakurai is flexible when thinking about what fighters to include.

If he thinks it works it works and he will try to add them in until either they fit or he decides they're not working out.

All this talk about Digimon actually reminded me of a true Pokémon ripoff (although there are many).

I actually tried this years ago, and it wasn't the worst game anyone could play, but it doesn't come off as very original.

Just stick to video game characters, manga characters aren't going to be in smash. And adding them would be an insult to the industry.

If you add Goku why not Cardi B? Why not Homer Simpson?

Goku would not make Ultimate the Ultimate Crossover Game. No, to do that you'd have to have a Microsoft character like Master Chief or Banjo, a Sony character like Kratos, and THEN a worldwide well known film character like Mickey Mouse or Spider-Man. People talk like Goku is the most important non video game character that's ever existed and yet you could go around the world and find out that there are plenty of characters more popular than he that would fit better in Smash and I think Sakurai realizes that if he one day, somehow, came around to the ide of a non vg character in Smash. No, I don't think Goku will ever happen.

Calling Spider-Man a film character is a little weird, given his origins is another medium. Any of those characters could make people see this crossover as "ultimate" but sticking strictly to the video game medium gives the game it's own flair.

Still I don't get why people are using so much of their time to complain about some people wanting Goku, when we can always discuss something else.

Agumon would be a good example. He's technically a video game character in origin, as the virtual pets came out before the show. So having Pokemon's original rival would be pretty huge, even if some kids today don't know too much about Digimon, though a newer show was on Nick for kids to watch.

I mean, it's not quite as crazy as Mario vs Sonic, Link vs Cloud or Mega Man and Pac-Man. But it'd at least be hype. I just wonder how he'd work mechanically, since Digimon changing forms is a bigger deal than it is in Pokemon, and they can go in and out of said forms, like in Dragonball, at least in the show.

I'd pick some others over him, but Agumon's not exactly a common topic so might as well.

I think a Digimon character is a very odd case. At best, I would consider him a character that originated from a toy line, like He-man and Optimus Prime. Still, I just don't see it happening, not because he isn't a video game character, I just don't feel like he belongs here. He's just as random as Goku and Shrek to me.

Stop. Goku isn't a video game character. Just because he's appeared in video games it doesn't put him in the same realm as Cloud. Goku's first and foremost a MANGA character.

Funimation wanting Goku in also has absolutely no bearing because Funimation doesn't own Goku. Random intern on Twitter asking for Goku means absolutely nothing. Goku is owned by Shueisha, Toei, Toriyama...There's so many holes to go through it's silly.

Saying "Sakurai can do whatever he wants so you never know" is not a good speculation tool. When you speculate you want some grounds to base that speculation on. The moment you're like "Sakurai can do whatever" there's no basis for conversation because anyone can use that card. That's why there's basic rules for speculation and the very few actual rules that is not a fan rule is the character must be a video game character. Goku is not. Stop.
