Zenith a question why do you like Boshi so much?

Well, first of all, it starts with loving YOSHI a lot. On the same page? Good.

Boshi is basically one of the first members of a "Mario species" that was explicitly given distinct traits apart from the others. Toadette, Koops, etc would follow. As Yoshi's "warui" counterpart, he should've honestly been a staple after he was introduced, but due to the deal with Square it never happened. You could say that Geno could've been well served as a one-time character due to the story arc (along with Geno), but Boshi has potential OUTSIDE of that game.

There’s nothing wrong with supporting characters you like, but characters like Shantae, Professor Layton, Jibanyan...those aren’t even close to the legacy or iconic status of literal gaming icons.

I’d unironically welcome the likes of Kratos, Nathan Drake or Master Chief based on the sole reason that they are gaming icons that would fit similar criterion to the characters already in Smash. By no means do I expect them. I think it’d be legit, but I don’t expect them. Other characters from series that have redefined genres or aspects of gaming would be amazing in my humble opinion. Depending on how they were implemented, i’d even be hyped to see Lara Croft or Ezio Auditore. Gimme characters that are hype and from series that kick ***.

As much as I understand you not seeing Jibanyan and Shantae as video game legacy icons, you constantly grouping Layton into that bunch bothers me a lot, especially when you bring up icons that redefined game genres.

Professor Layton was a big deal back then, being one of the few Japanese gaming franchises that gained a notably large worldwide following. The series is most successful in Europe, so successful to a point NoE treated the series as their own with the likes of Mario, Kirby, and Pokemon in marketing back in the DS days. The Professor Layton series redefined the puzzle genre, praised for its combination of puzzle and adventure gameplay mixed with solid storytelling. The series was big enough to have a crossover with Capcom's most well known lawyer, as well as having a movie and anime (which is currently being aired this year). As a gaming icon, Layton himself is widely known for his gentleman personality, his love for puzzles, the kindness/care he gives for every person he meets, and his willpower to solve through any mystery. He is a character that inspired millions.

I think you greatly underestimate the impact Professor Layton made in the gaming industry/community.

This sounds a whole lot like "I don't care for said character at all so he doesn't deserve to be in". I don't even care for Yoshi and a Boshi echo wouldn't bother me. Sure I wouldn't give a damn but it's not like he's taking anything away from anyone else I'd want.

See I don't know. Someone could make an extremely strong argument that Geno would never be given the time of day if literally not for ravenous support from the hardcore smash community. And this goes for like, a lot of the characters that are front runners in Smash speculation.

I don't subscribe to the "ALL nintendo character deserve to be in smash!" school of thought when it comes to speculation because it literally leads to nowhere but making fan rosters. Sakurai certainly isn't building the roster with that mindset.

So you aren't allowed to want a character because they aren't as highly requested? I think Zinith is very aware the actual chances of Boshi happening are extremely slim, but that doesn't stop anyone from wanting a character they want.

If he got in as a Yoshi echo... what series would he belong to? Because he's never been in a Yoshi game... He'd have to be a Mario series character which would be weird.
