In terms of Direct predictions, I'm not sure we'll get any last minute announcements, especially since every character will be revealed before the game launches, presumably to get ahead of any potential leaks to avoid what happened last time. My guess:

September Nintendo Direct: I think this would be a major first party character announcement, probably no echoes. My guess is Bandana Waddle Dee or Skull Kid. If there are echoes, which I'm not sure where else the rest would fit, this is where I'd see Dixie Kong and Isabelle.

October Pokemon Direct: I don't think Smash would be featured in the Direct itself, but I think around this time we could get an announcement of the Pokemon rep (if there is one, which I don't consider a lock). My guess is Incineroar.

October Surprise: I think at some point we would get a surprise reveal of a popular lesser known character. My guess would probably be Isaac, with Felix as an echo. If a Bandai Namco character is actually in, then this is around the time I think they'd announce it instead (and in that case, my guess is Lloyd).

November Smash Direct: Similar Direct to the August Direct. I think a major third party character reveal would begin it along with a stage and music, with a fan favorite to end it (My guess is Banjo & Kazooie to begin, Geno to end). Third party echoes, my guesses are Shadow and Ken. Online, a few brand new stages, Minecraft stage with Creeper assist, assists/pokemon, single player mode (NOT called Spirits). Third party echoes including Shadow and Ken would be revealed.

I do hope, though, that we get more characters, and more Directs. But being conservative, I think this is how they would spread it out.

OCTOBER: It'll be on early Octuber, a Nintendo Direct where they show Yoshi, FE, Mario Party, some more unannounced 3rd party games, and at the end they Show Geno
NOVEMBER: 50-Fact Extravaganza Direct, they'll show Isaac in the beginning, then they talk about Spirits, the censored game mode from the Smash Direct, which is SSE: The Sequel, and at the end they show a trailer for Shantae.

I don't necessarily disagree, except Isaac seems to be at the top of many polls that I find. And reading it back, it does sound like an oxymoron--lesser known to a general audience, but popular with Smash fans. I actually expect it to be a complete surprise, but an Isaac reveal with a Felix echo makes sense. Unless I'm misinterpreting what you meant.

The idea of 9-Volt has been thrown around, but I’ve NEVER seen anybody talk about 18-Volt. My original thought was a duo, but I don’t really know how it’d work. He could be a part of 9-Volt’s final smash, or possibly a sort of clone on the level of Lucas and Falco.

October: Fall Direct. Showcasing a lot of games. That Yoshi game is real, and there will finally be a new F-Zero game made. There's also some 3rd parties announced. (Im gonna assume there will be news of NMH3 there). Smash reveals afterward of the F-Zero news for Deathborn and Black Shadow and an Issac reveal trailer after the direct

November: A big Smash Direct. Online and Spirits mode shown off Tons of Echoes and Newcomers are revealed. Geno, Mike Jones, Shadow, Eggman, Porky, Impa, Gooey, Zack.

December: 50 facts thing before launch day and DLC of Banjo announced

Base Roster:

• Shadow: A popular character within the Sonic fandom that's easy to make and would please a lot of people.
• Isabelle: Again, she's a massively popular character, practically being the face of the Animal Crossing series, and would be relatively easy to implement.
• Ken: Dude's the original clone character, and is iconic in his own right.
• Incineroar: Out of the remaining Pokémon newcomers, he seems most likely, given his prominence in the Pokémon reboot movie and Litten/Torracat's rising prominence in the Sun/Moon anime. Ash's Lycanroc can be likened to his Talonflame, and Ash's Incineroar is going to be his Greninja.
• Chorus Kids: A moveset concept and maybe some assets for them were already made for Sm4sh, and it would make sense to incorporate them now that nothing's stopping Sakurai and his team.
• Skull Kid: Dude's pretty popular and has been receiving some hints as of late.
• Isaac: See above, except he's been requested for way longer and likely did better in the ballot (he had a bigger campaign).
• Geno: Dude's the most request character at this point, and even Sakurai wants him in the game. I've got a feeling that this time around he'll make it.

DLC:
I'm only gonna explain the top three because I'm 100% confident that they'll be DLC. The other 10 are characters I'm confident that we'll see, but not 100%. I'm also confident that one of them is going to be first DLC character. If any of the above aren't in the base roster, then move him to this category.

• Banjo & Kazooie: They've been picking up steam ever since the Ballot came around in 2016, which they also likely performed very well on. Phil Spencer's been drumming up hype for them since then as well, and with Nintendo and Microsoft's relationship being better than ever I wouldn't be surprised if they get in. I'd possibly say Steve, but Sakurai seems to be going for fan requests, and Banjo & Kazooie are likely more requested than Steve.
• Rex & Pyra: They're two of Nintendo's rising stars, and a symbol of the Switch and Xenoblade Chronicle's success. Sakurai also loves Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which they're the main characters of, so they've got that going for them.
• Sora: This guy practically speaks for himself. Kingdom Hearts is a massive series worldwide, and Sora fits most, if not every criteria for inclusion in Smash Bros. Don't bring up anything involving hassle with Disney, because it doesn't really exist, especially with DLC where Nintendo would be able to share profits better with Disney.

My most wanted character is clearly a ferocious, man-eating monster, as evidenced by this picture. I'm not too keen on the idea of being served live human flesh so I think I'll pass on this one. It's just on a lot of people's minds right now because of that leak. Well all know it's BS and Agnes is very unlikey to happen but a lot of people are still curious about what it'd be like if BD did get a rep.

That picture reminds me. WHY DID I NOT THINK OF SILVALLY AS A NEW POKEMON? Gosh, he would be such an amazing fighter. Imagine al the moves he could use. Since he can become any type.

First roster to make me literally yell "WOO" in joy. I was hesitant at first because it seemed "same old" to me (no offense, because I really love most of the characters we see as locks so I'm honestly happy with it) and then I saw Paper Mario in as top row DLC. Super, super happy, thank you for remembering him. Can I ask why you think he'll be specifically DLC?

Mine'll be Dirk the Daring of Dragon's Lair

An arcade rep of a singularly unique genre which hasn't been touched yet (he even has a horrible nintendo game). He's got a lot of personality, could have an interesting counter mechanic where he becomes invincible for half a second if he times it perfectly, and Sakurai seems to have a thing for sword users anyways.

I've mentioned it before, but everybody ignored it.

You know, I just thought of something. Why have we not considered any Ultra Beasts as potential Gen 7 candidates?

I mean, if Sakurai looked ahead while Sun and Moon was still in development and saw them essentially creating a new sub species of Pokemon, I feel like that would entice him quite a bit if he was pulling another Greninja.
