Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

When it comes to third party characters, I feel like it's better to have a mix of cartoony mascot types and more realistic-looking (relatively speaking, of course) humans, as opposed to just sticking to the first group.

Everybody expected characters like Sonic, Mega Man, and Pac-Man, but the real surprises came when they went outside of that box and added characters like Snake, Cloud, and Bayonetta.
Don't get me wrong. The humans are interesting beside the less realistic cartoony smashers but, some of them carry heavy traces of anime, taking away that complex smash aspect for me. I want a smash anime but not that version.

I like to think of it as, the more realistic smashers accidentally wandered into those worlds, eventually immense in their influence that turned them into smashers.

Smash games tend to release 2 years into a console's lifecycle.

Plus they've probably been working on Smash 6 for years already.

Sakurai on the other hand seems to be working on a different IP, if his recent toy purchase being related to his project is an indication. I think he's working on a 3DS title.
A few things;
  • 64 was released three years after the N64's launch, Melee was a Gamecube launch title and Brawl was released one year after the Wii's launch in Japan. The "2 years into a console's life cycle thing" can't be a rule when only one out of four games follow it.
  • They don't work on a new game instantly after the previous one is done. As an example, Smash 4 started being worked on in 2012, 4 years after Brawl.
  • There's a chance Sakurai might not be working on the next Smash game since Iwata, the one person who always asked him, is dead.

Pushmo has four games under its belt. Mallo, the hero from this block-based puzzler, may be a contender for Smash.

I think Sakurai is one of the best videogame directors, but i don't think there's any chance that he's coming back.

Maybe Namco is the devoloper of the game now, or some other nintendo subsidiary, but i doubt it's going to be sora/sakurai.

I'm hoping we get something close to Smash 64. Three years after the N64 and as a result we got the best games of Nintendo 64 represented in the game. Except for Donkey Kong 64, the best one of them all.

So yeah. I hope they wait until after E3 to start development. There's a lot of stuff likely to appear at E3. Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Pikmin, Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, Mario Party, Metroid, and more.

And we already have Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda Breath of The Wild, Star Fox Zero, Kirby Star Allies, Yoshi, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Arms, Splatoon 2.

So if development started before the Switch was revealed, that's VERY bad news.

Dude. 3DS's classic mode is way better. You get to choose your own path and it's actually grouped in franchises. It's really cool!
I only saw a little about it, at first I thought you fight all characters individually and I know the group franchises part. I just like how quick the Wii U classic mode is, but honestly the 3DS might have some kind of interest. I only play Smash for Wii U, because of how smooth it is. If they add the 3DS Classic more for the Switch, I think it might look fun. It is described to have a Metal battle, free-for-alls or one-on-ones ( I know this ). I do agree that Smash 4 Wii U's Classic mode is messy but it is so quick I like it. I think it looks a lot more like a Mario-Party style rather than a board just with fighters on it. Basically it feels more like an adventure than for Wii U. I am sorry if you have no clue what I am saying, but here are my thoughts.

In all honesty I don't find a Rhythm Heaven character all that likely. Assist Trophy? Maybe, but I feel the series has fallen into Advance Wars or Golden Sun territory where a character would be nice but "unnecessary" if we're aiming for a Nintendo all-star cast. Maybe not the proper wording, but you understand what I'm getting at.


That being said, I would love for this to get in Smash 5.
Honestly the criteria for who's an "all-star" is so dumb seeing as that gimmick was dropped after Smash 64.

Most of the characters added in to Smash 4 aren't all-stars and aren't known that well by the public. If you're going to argue against those two series that's hardly a factor that would prevent their inclusion.

Thank you. I'm surprised I never actually mentioned it on this website. I really liked the idea that you can make special opponents appear in Melee like Falco or Luigi and I'd like to see them do that with levels ala Star Fox 64.

I hope if they port Smash 4 to switch they make like five to six more Smash run stages and put that in the game. Including as an online mode.

I liked Smash run.

The two don't have to be mutually exclusive. I'd say that Japan only characters fit well into the second choice category. I don't want a character to be chosen or not chosen on whether they went global.

I'm just saying the "all-star" argument is a horrible reason to exclude just about any character. It's mostly a buzz word for supporters of certain characters to boast about their chances.

We have Earthbound characters and FE characters in Smash. Certainly, JOC (Japan only characters) could help the franchises if they appear in Smash as they did with FE. And I know there is demand on these boards for Takamaru.

Personally, I would rather strange characters from series that I am more aware of, yet JOC's have their pros. Would not object to a JOC if they could make an exciting fighter.

Second choice picks for sure. Especially characters who missed their "window of opportunity" as Sakurai likes to call it.
They need to do that with a Melee Style Adventure Mode. You could include every IP and still have it be short and replayable.

I actually pitched an idea for a branching Adventure mode like that.

The way I envisioned it is that there would be multiple ways to complete a level which would unlock an easy, normal, and hard path to choose from. Said routes would go through different franchises.

i.e. You start in a Mario level and have the option of advancing to a DK, Wario, or Yoshi level depending on how you complete the Mario level.

I'd like more to have the [Second Choice Picks] since I prefer to have a more complete rooster from the characters we actually know. Althought the [Japan Only] characters would be cool and a nice touch from Nintendo.

My dumb character choice that I've got completely worked out in my head is Pidgetto aka Ash's Jobber-mon. :017:

Makes up for light weight and short range normal with high combo potential, wind effect specials, multiple jumps, gliding and a low profile.


:GCB: Gust: Fires a small wind vortex with a pulling effect. Flies at downward angle in air, hugs ground otherwise. Good for edgeguarding but low (if any) damage.

:GCB::GCR: Tailwind: Dives forward with a gust of wind behind it, strong wind box that tends to juggle opponent into it's damage boxes. Sweet spot at beginning on beak.

:GCB::GCU:- Steel Wing: Up-B that doesn't cover much distance but has super-armour

:GCB::GCD:- Roost: Recovers health but limits Pidgeotto to single jumps, health recovery stalls in mid-air.

FINAL SMASH- Birds of a Feather: The stage is swarmed with Pidgey who acts like weaker Cuccos, and is ended by a Mega Pidgeot flying in and using Hurricane.

It would never ever make it in and I'm not particularly found of the Pokemon itself but this moveset just works so perfectly in my head. Maybe I just want a proper birb for Smash.

I hope this isn't too off topic, but this how I would do Adventure Mode in Super Smash Bros for Nintendo Switch. I didn't add any new characters because there's debate on who would and wouldn't be in. I just put in characters from Super Smash Bros for Wii U.

My Adventure Mode. You can branch between difficulties depending on your performance. So the paths aren't entirely separate.

Below each level are the opponents you will face in or after the level. Bosses appear on the map after you clear a level and have their own arenas they are fought in.

  • Sidescroller: The level is a typical sidescroller with enemies.
  • Arena: The level is no more than a stage to fight your opponent.
  • Endurance: A non-opponent based endurance round (Complete the micro games, hit all the ducks, etc.)
  • Maze: Navigate the area until you find the goal.

* = Indicates an opponent that can only be faced if you achieve an objective.

I will agree that the 3DS' version of Classic is nice in that it doesn't force 5+ player Smash but the difficulty setting is on the Wii U version, just at the beginning which is how every other Smash game did it. Not saying change is bad mind you. Another issue with the 3DS one is how while yes, you do have branching paths and therefore choice, to my recollection, you only fight certain IPs on their respective stages. So if you choose to go to the Triforce symbol, you could fight any combination of Link, Zelda, Sheik, Toon Link or Ganondorf, you're also going to be fighting them on Gerudo Desert or...I honestly forget if the 3DS had another Zelda stage. The Wii U doesn't arbitrarily lock characters to the stages from the same IP. I'm not saying the Wii U version is perfect, it could've certainly been improved and there are certain qualities the older Classic modes have over it but I still personally think the Wii U's is the best.

Thing about that is, while the characters, stages, etc. are locked together in a specific franchise, the franchises themselves are also selected at random.

Personally, I think a way to solve the qualms everyone has with Classic Mode is to have different options regarding what opponents you battle, when you battle them, etc. We'll use Melee's Classic Mode as an example; you go through various stages and battle opponents at random (for the most part), but the battle rules are the same for each stage (stage one is one-on-one, stage two is two-on-two, bonus minigame one, so on and so forth). There'd be an icon by Classic Mode which takes you to a screen and allows you to customize Classic Mode as you see fit. If you want the IPs to be selected for each stage but have the types of battles be randomized, like it was in Brawl, or maybe have everything from the battles to the characters be selected at random, it can be done here. If we wree able to take it a step further, maybe you could be able to select specific characters and specific battle types for each stage, so it can be more like Smash 64's 1P Mode.

Just my two cents. None of this is ever gonna happen but hey, a man can dream.

Smash WII U's other modes lacked quite a lot actually, Smash Tour was basically mario party. The classic mode was borign and stressful. the only one i liked was All-Star mode because they didn't change it that much

Oof i didn't mean it like that, but your right i should've worded it differently.
What i meant was: It dumb and nobody actually wanted it. it was wasted resources and Potential to be something else.

Smash already kinda has that, every character is good and can be used to put up a fight. Well, excpet captain falcon, he requires no skills at all

Nah man, Mario Party 2 on hard difficulty is the worst, i got murdered by a wario A.I thats on hard......and he took all my money and kept buying stars

I can argue Mario Party 8 wasn't that great either.

The idea of boards having drastically different mechanics and functions was great, but... the waggle controls... ugh!

At least, 9 and 10 has some fun minigames. It's the boards (and Bowser Party) that suck. And Top 100... yeah, I can't save that mess.

I can argue Mario Party 8 wasn't that great either.

The idea of boards having drastically different mechanics and functions was great, but... the waggle controls... ugh!

At least, 9 and 10 has some fun minigames. It's the boards (and Bowser Party) that suck. And Top 100... yeah, I can't save that mess.
