I doubt we’ll get a comic con reveal. We thought there’d be one for this Japanese tournament, and then the French one before that...it’s all just showing off the E3 build.

I’d expect a direct in mid August timeframe, and we’d probably get one then. Failing that, a 50-fact extravaganza or something late September/early October will give us one or two more characters.

I bet there will be a number that Sakurai will want to keep hidden until the ESRB or someone leaks the actual roster in mid November. And the salt will flow...

That's what I initially thought too, but after looking into it, I've seen a lot of people claiming that was a mistake and the poll is actually ranking characters on likelihood rather than popularity.

but the leak is REALLY out there despite getting stuff right its like a dream list of stuff, i'm not sure what to make of it as I think some of what it said is impossible but its guessed like three things accurately so im thinking maybe its some facts mixed with fake stuff? so not sure on this one...

also as for the no directs on "sunday" thing, its possible it would be monday in japan and sunday for the west. Again not saying i believe the leak necessarily but theres something to it guessing stuff so i'm following it until it gets proven false.

Because there are some crazy people who really, really want Chorus Kids for some reason, and will believe the first remotely "credible" (hard quotes here) source they can get their hands on.

EDIT: Note, the "for some reason" here is referring to wanting a character so bad you'll believe IMDB of all things, not Chorus Kids, specifically.

I think Chorus Kids are likely, given that there's evidence that a Rhythm Heaven character may have been considered/planned to be playable at some point during Smash 4's development. Wouldn't surprise me to see them Ultimate.

But anyone who's specifically going by IMDB as 'verification' that they're in clearly hasn't put a lot of thought into it.

Anyway, I don't know what it is "they want to do instead of DLC", but they'd kinda be damned fools to seriously go without DLC this time. Yeah Sakurai should prolly get a break at some point... But why deny giving the fans what they want and of course a guaranteed source for MONEY, and after having other Nintendo games w/ DLC including the last Smash as well as less newcomers in the base game? They're likely going to support it for bug updates and what not anyway.

Who knows, maybe for the coming couple of years we could see ongoing DLC at least of Smash 4's quantity, if not more assuming that was stopped because of Ultimate's existence. Maybe the continuing character balance might be the biggest difficulty?

I have no doubt Nintendo will do DLC for smash. Nintendo would be absolutely foolish to not do DLC for smash, i'd be shocked if it didn't happen, Nintendo can literally "win" E3 next year with like "Sora from kingdom hearts DLC for smash!" or something. Smash characters generate SO much hype just keeping the door open for a year or so after the game is out can have them hit 2 E3's with a character reveal and it would just be insane not to. Thats hype that generally goes beyond most game announcements and is obviously WAY easier than Nintendo making a new game, to them its simply easy money and publicity.

I hope not. As a fan of the series, any Rhythm Paradise character would be cool to me, and there were suggestions that we were CLOSE to getting one last time even ignoring Gemetsu, to the point of them making a Smash Run character for them and Ice Climbers despite having no playable character. So yeah, I'd be down with getting the Chorus Kids as a character.

Your source is somewhat accurate, but flawed. I have a pen pal who lives in Japan and talks to me from his home two blocks from Sora Lmtd where he hears Sakurai's monologuing tirades in the dead of night, announcing his maniacal plans.

On July 24th, Sakurai will land a helicopter atop Tokyo's radio network building and broadcast a challenge over the air: " meet me in Bikini Atoll where in 7 days, I will hold a tournament of Smash. Defeat me, and I will add Shrek, Geno, K. Rool, Marshal, Isaac, Elma, Rex, Goku, Isabelle, Simon Belmont, Waluigi, Bomberman, Lyn, Celica, Dixie Kong, Funky Kong, Bandana Dee, Decidueye, and every other character with a thread on Smashboards.com, while also bumping the game's release date up to 3 hours after the tournament. If your Challenger loses, I will delete their favorite character, add another Dark Pit variant, and delay the game one year."

My source is definitely accurate, because he noted before the invitational that there would be between 1-5 new characters, that the direct would be between 10-30 minutes, and that the game would be a Smash game with Nintendo characters.

For those of you who’ve had a chance to play the demos: how does this stage look?

It weirds me out a bit that the two ramp platforms overlap. I get why they did it, but I think I’d have preferred one set of ramps to stay in the background so you didn’t have the issue of two platforms coming to a corner like that. That’ll leave all sorts of clipping issues, so how bad does that end up looking?

They’d better do DLC. Smash prints money, so it’d be stupid not to have some. Still, I wouldn’t expect them to start evan planning that until at least mid-late September timeframe, and maybe start development nearer early November.

That article sounds a lot like PR waffle though. He isn’t saying a thing. I’m sure Mewtwo was started after the game finished...mostly. Art teams or the modeling and animations don’t do much more when the game’s in polish, so they could have started. But also remember - all they had was an unposed model by October, it took until March to get him done.

Also, since Smash is being released so early in the Switch’s lifetime, it’d make sense to support it for a long time with DLC so it keeps up the hype. Same idea as the rumors going around about Mario Kart DLC - it’s older, but you know it'll sell so it’s worth it.

I'd actually take "another" Dark Pit variant over Waluigi, though.

Played on Moray Towers quite a few times at E3, and yeah, it's a bit odd. The platform structure does lead to a bit of clipping depending on where you're standing. It's not something that is uncommon in other Smash stages, but it is particularly noticeable on Moray Towers.

Running up and down the platforms is a bit off too. Game kinda feels like it decides to only make you take the one going down farther and you have to jump onto a higher one if you want to go up. But sometimes it didn't?

I dunno. I never liked Moray Towers in actual Splatoon, and Smash isn't changing my mind. :V

This..is sort of off topic, but I wouldn't say a new dlc character would be enough to win E3. I mean the epic reveal of Smash Ultimate in all of its glory still left a lot of Nintendo fans salty because it was pretty much the only thing they showed.

Yes Smash is great and the majority of Nintendo fans love it but I don't think Nintendo can try to successfully make a big impression at E3 with Smash alone, especially if it's just a dlc character. Some people complaining about Nintendo's E3 are being annoying and entitled sure, but I think there are a lot of legitimate Nintendo fans who don't really enjoy Smash who are not looking forward to the rest of the year being only Smash and a Pokemon Yellow remake so far.

Anyway yeah kind of unrelated because I agree they should absolutely do dlc characters, they just can't make Smash the pivotal focus of next E3 again. Sorry totally unrelated and just a random rant from me XD

Hm that's dissapointing. I love Moray Towers in Spaltoon so I was excited to see it in Smash.

I could see the clipping through in footage but the whole trying to go up not quite working is problematic. Hopefully just some early build bugs.
