Toad is legitimately one of the few all-stars left. And there's maybe truly only two or three of them left for Nintendo.

It's a shame that he keeps constantly getting overlooked.

We should have gotten Toad in Brawl.

It's really amusing to me thinking about Toad in Smash, even though I think he would be a poor choice for a fighting role. From the games I've played, he has an arsenal of vegetables and a hammer (Mario Party 3 Duel Mode, or as I like to call it "how real men settle disputes"). However, the zinger is his physics. According to Super Mario Bros. 2, Toad is stronger than Mario and runs faster than him too, he's just very cowardly and "jumps like a broken pogo stick" (the Super Mario Advance instruction booklet's words, not mine). So it's funny to me imagining Toad as a playable character being this joke powerhouse / speed demon that would function somewhat like Little Mac, but with "Let's go! *chuckles*" instead of the usual grunts.

I think the reason Toad doesn't have any steam is because no one is genuinely interested in him as a fighter. His role in Smash is an analog to the Toad species' relationship with Peach (she rules over them, they protect her even though they suck at it most of the time), which I think everyone assumes is best for him.

I think Ridley will be top tier, and Mario and Link would be high tier.

Would anybody be interested with Reimu joining Smash? A character from the Touhou games would be an interesting newcomer, and I could honestly see Sakurai throwing in a character like this as one of his unexpected characters.

I'd love for Reimu to be playable. With Cloud in the game, I don't put as much stock in the whole "history with Nintendo" thing. With the recent Touhou spin-offs making their way to the Switch, Reimu has about as much of a presence on Nintendo systems as Cloud does. (but not Final Fantasy as a whole of course)

DLC isn't/wasn't rated, so the rating for Smash Ultimate should be interesting. It'd be awesome to have a T-Rated Smash game again, but with Snake's ass and ZSS's chest being cut from the game, I'm thinking otherwise.

EDIT: Unrelated, but I don't think we should expect another big third-party character until DLC. The "who gets paid how much from what" from this game must be a nightmare.

super mario maker 2 is mostly just an enhanced port with some additional ****, the kind of stuff people have been asking for (slopes is most obvious, you would not ****ing BELIEVE the amount of backend fiddling it took them to make that **** work). you use touch screen in handheld to design but you'd be surprised how functional the design system is in docked. or maybe not, literally every other console level editor has gotten it right. there's a 5th style added to the game that's basically 2d animated, drawn in Kotabe's style. it comes out 2018, dunno when

new animal crossing has slight pocket camp functionality. basically your character in the switch town can visit your character in the mobile's camp, and you get special items from the phone into the switch for doing it. you can also convince camper animals to move into your town. besides that a much more limited variation of the happy home designer model is implemented in the game, basically animals in town and even special characters will occasionally ask you to redesign their homes. you don't get unlimited options like HHD, just whatever the animal owns and items from their wanted theme, as well as whatever you own (so you can give them what you have). online options are ****, i was hoping there'd be a way for friends to visit and play your town while you're offline, but docked, but they just repeated the dream town ****.

star fox retro game is real, i can't believe you guys don't realize that/think it's a hoax. you shoot **** and do tricks to get ahead, you can fire at your opponents, it doesn't kill them but makes them careen or shuts down boosters or some ****. adventure mode is not nearly as fleshed out as people have suggested.

the next smash character will be revealed and will be from pic related's series.

I still see Bayonetta being top tier despite the oncoming nerfs, that's just the way it is. Although I don't think she'll be #1. Inklings will be mid, MAYBE high tier. And oh boy, poor Fox. This may be the game where he becomes competitively irrelevant and I don't know what to think about that.

I am holding out hope that this is the game where Yoshi will kick *** and take names...

Yeah, popularity isn't everything. Good thing Ashley also has relevancy, great moveset potential, a hopeful future, a comment by Sakurai himself of her rising stardom near the time of Ultimate's conception, and had an AT, Mii Fighter costume, and 2 different remixes of her theme in Smash 4.

Whatever Tier List we make now (or even weeks after the game is released) is going to be completely wrong, but if I HAD to guess, I'd say characters like have a good shot at being high tier, they all either have a good track record in the previous games or just have really solid designs that would be hard to make unviable even if they were to be nerfed in several categories.

The idea of Fox being irrelevant in tournament play does sound strange. But it’s not like other good characters in the past haven’t had to experience that life at once point (Falcon, Marth as examples). Pikachu seems like he’ll be good again, and my guess is Diddy, Bayo, ZSS, Ryu, and Rosa will all remain good. Hoping Ness and Jigglypuff are pretty good this time around

You need to do a little more research.

For example

These two were to have said to come in because of western demand: Ridley, Little Mac

These were rejected even though they were the top 5 requested in Japan: Sukapon, Takamaru, Goemon.
There aren’t any characters that were brought on due to pure Japan requests but we have multiple examples where characters were brought on from high request from the West. Also the America’s make up 1/2 of a games sales (generally speaking.) Europe makes up 1/3. Japans votes aren’t that big.
