I can confirm that is true, especially the part with Link's double jump. I think it makes up for his lack of a tether recovery.

There's some people who valued his size as a character trait that shouldn't be strayed away from, while others find it's more about his appearance and behavior. The former believed that he shouldn't be sized down to be playable, the latter did. That's fine.

Eh, sort of. The 65 count serves the historical purpose of denoting how many unique fighters have entered the series thus far, while also separating the echoes from the overall count. This is why the PT Pokemon are counted separately, because they're all unique fighters.
Honestly I wouldn't be mad if this happened but between 7th and 8th getting another Pokemon seem inevitable.
The third numbering system is the number of slots on the character page, which is 62 (66 - 2 for Pokémon Trainer - 2 for Miis).
