To be honest the exact same. Pac-Man was my most wanted third party at the time just because he's the very foundation of video game mascots to begin with.

How most people reacted to Megaman's reveal I reacted that way to Pac-Man.

On that subject I'm sure it's been done before but I haven't seen in a while;

Literal Overwhelming and overhyped levels of Hype.

This was the character I feel the most hyped about, it's the only character that make feel like "HORY SHET YISUS IS REAL!" because I was confident in my mind and heart, that despite what everything though, he was the Final Fantasy character that deserves to be with the All Stars of Nintendo Gaming... Maybe he's not very known for his Nintendo Apperances, but Final Fantasy is a big brand, a Cloud is their pop icon character.

MEGAMAN! MEGAMAN! I'm not even a fan of the freaking franchise (but I actually like the X Games) but damn, his reveal was so incredible, specially because it happened in pretty much the worst period in the Megaman existence (the 2011-2014 period)

She looked awesome and still does.

Oh hell his moveset is sick and so polarizing... I love it!
I love her look, and her moveset is fun, but I would like that she got some changes.
This would have been more exciting if the leak hadn't molded my expectations xD

And the fact that at that E3 Wii Fit Trainer was revealed behind closed doors at a developer conference , and then the following year Pac-Man was revealed that way. So no telling who will show up when lol.

I still remember later that evening my friend telling me Wii Fit Trainer was in the game and she's normally full of **** so I was like, no I saw the trailer I know who's been announced. That was crazy lol.

I'm sure Sakurai can take some artistic liberties like he did with Capt. Falcon. Either Dusk Form Lycanroc can attack by raising up the ground, (mud, rocks, and sand) for its moveset like an earthbender, or put transformations back in the game and allow Lycanroc to switch between Midnight, and Dusk form.

You are aware that Lycanroc can't change forms, right? The form that it gets is what it's stuck with forever.

Goku isn't happening for the simple reason that he would be an absolute licensing nightmare

Agree on all other points, but apparently one company owns all rights for Dragon Ball video games: Bandai Namco. Things might be easier on the licensing part of the deal. I'm not saying he can, should, or that I want him in the game, just that no one should be 100% dead-set on him not being in the game. The request for him is massive, and it might be even more than we think, since people must've stopped being vocal in the internet about it when the mere suggestion of it results in dozens of angry "SHUT UP ITS NOT HAPPENING EVER" replies. I've heard a lot of casuals talk about Goku in Smash IRL, and they make it sound like nothing could beat that hype. I guess what I'm trying to say is that "Goku in Smash" is much more than a meme, or a vocal minority.
Anyway, that's enough Goku for a 1000 more pages of this thread, I think.

If Palutena was hype worthy last E3, while Pac-Man was a closed doors thing, then yes, absolutely.

E3 reveals could be anyone, they might even tie them to another announcement like some of the past reveals. They could tie a Metroid Prime 4 to a Ridley, a Xenoblade 2 DLC announcement to a Rex/Fiora, a X port to Elma, an Isabelle to AC Switch, Lyn/Celica/whoever to a FE16 reveal, Goku for FighterZ etc.

One of my all time most wanted top choice characters, super hype.
with the koopalings (a pipe dream of mine to somehow have them) heck yes, never thought sakurai would make a character the way most fans would on paper!
kind of expected him but still very very hype

been waiting for him and the fact sakurai had deconfirmed him before, very hype!

sakurai made the newer kid icarus game and revived the series so i think he considers her one of his characters at this point, she had possibly the BEST trailer, made me want a smash anime, so i assume so much time was put into animating that because of a slight sakurai bias for kid icarus

Or because Kid Icarus already had animated cutscenes and it's easy to commision same work from same studio. And Palutena showing in E3? I kinda doubt Sakurai can decide the whole thing but it can be because:

a- Nintendo wanted to show a popular character from a recent game made by them
b- As you said, Palutena's trailer has more content. Even without animation, it has a ton of custom moves, which was important for the last game.

I think it's the latter as I doubt he'd take a half year breather for the reasons already stated, and conceptual development (ex. the project plan, initial scheduling, etc.) can be done away from physical development on the game. Theoretically, they could've spent the first few months preparing for development of the game and then on or before August started getting into the real meat of it.

oh all very true about bayo, and if cloud had "won" i'd have no complaints but since we are making a "hype" list i had to go with my initial bayonetta hype which was pure disappointment for me and even a bit of anger that she "won" when it really did not feel like that was the case. in hindsight and with the knowledge of a new smash game coming out this soon and that the ballot was probably also for that game etc... I get why she got picked and again im even totally fine with her being in the game and think shes a deserving character but if we are talking reveal hype thats was my reaction.

Ohhh, hype tiers? Fun!

-The " I actively SCREAMED in joy" tier. Cloud especially, being one of those rare few to recognize the Bombing Mission music playing as the stars panned around, the build up to Cloud was absolutely fantastic as a FF fan. And Megaman is just Mega Man... It was amazing seeing him after the great Mega Man Purge of the early 2010s. I'd also put Megaman's Final Smash reveal in this tier, haha.

The "Heck Yeah" tier, characters I supported that I was happy to see make the cut. Not screaming at the top of my lungs, but definitely got my blood pumping.

The "Hey, that's awesome" tier. Shulk would probably be higher if I had played Xenoblade by the time Smash came out, I'd literally only picked the game up the day after he was announced (Was lucky enough to find it at a nearby GameStop), and I've played the respective games of all these characters. Glad to have em.

The "You plesantly surprised me" tier. I admittedly was on the boat of "These two wouldn't work/would be boring in Smash", but they both surprised me with their unique mechanics and how fun they were. Pac especially has become my absolute favorite character to play for fun, and using Street Fighter inputs and combos was a BRILLIANT idea for Ryu. Hope they stick around.

The "Meh, fine" tier. No strong feelings either way for either of them, I understood why there were there.

Clone Tier. Self Explanatory.

The "Your face is stupid and I hate you *baby screeching noises*" tier. Kudos to those who support and love these two, but both of them left a sour taste in my mouth. Bowser Jr. Because I don't like Sunshine and I especially don't like how he's NSMB based and once again brought the Koopalings into my life after they overpopulated Mario Kart 8's roster, and Corrin because "Too much Fire Emblem/took the spot of better FE reps/advertisement." Even though I did mellow out with Corrin and even wrote a guest article for SourceGaming defending him/her, I was a tad sour about both of them upon their announcement and neither of them are my favorites by any means.

Mega evolution is meant to be temporary though and so it's perfect for a final smash. There's absolutely no changing of lycanroc forms in game and it's really out of character. It's probably going to be dusk form with colors refrencing day and night forms.

(Also it transforming doesn't help the forms that can't really hold items. It's an issue but not something Sakurai can't figure out if he wants them to be playable)

I kinda expected Pac Man given Namco's involvement, but just wasn't seeing what he could bring to the table. Ryu I just thought would be basic and boring as hell after hearing him leaked.

But Pac ended up being a celebration of Namco's King of Arcade Games status and just insanely fun all around, and Ryu using Street Fighter inputs, combos, and making his light medium and heavy attacks based on how you held the button was a brilliant idea. I learned not to doubt Sakurai's ability to make a character fun and unique after these two.

16.: The Mii Gunner gets a lower spot because it reminds me of how much i dislike Samus's moveset thanks to that Mii Samus Costume, it's nothing but salt to my wounds.

18.: I already disliked Lucina, but her rabid fans that i ment along soured me on the character severly alonside IS's annoying pushing for the character on FE. Im tired of her.

19.: My 2nd least favorite inclusion on the base roster. I hate movesets that are made up stuff and i found her gimmick annoying and out of character for her. Using your kids as weapons? What?

20: The idea stopped being funny after 2 days of her reveal.

Really depends on the execution of the character's movesets because I am quite neutral to the latter two.
Also ready to kill if Brawl's best stage, Summit, does not return.

But I'd still be hyped, because we'll see gameplay and I think Rex and Isaac could have unique movesets and of course I'd be relieved when Icies return.

Excitement, because if Isaac can get in, there's hope for Tiz, Solaire, and Hector, all of whom I really want in Smash but none of whom really have a chance of getting in based on Sakurai's past patterns.

Ice Climbers: Veterans that I have emotional attachment. I'd be pumped (though very confused about why did they get their own trailer).
Rex: Shrug and look at how interesting the moveset is. I don't really like XC2 but it's a successful game and a lot of people would like to see him in. Oh, and prepare for unavoidable "anime swordsmen" complaints.
Isaac: "Man, that fighting style is more interesting than the ones fans come up with!" And again, more anime swordsmen complaints.

I wouldn't have any objections but it'd be sad to everyone looking down on them because they aren't Ridley.

Mega evolution is meant to be temporary though and so it's perfect for a final smash. There's absolutely no changing of lycanroc forms in game and it's really out of character. It's probably going to be dusk form with colors refrencing day and night forms.

(Also it transforming doesn't help the forms that can't really hold items. It's an issue but not something Sakurai can't figure out if he wants them to be playable)

If Sakurai really wants to make a quad Lycanroc playable, believe me, he'll find a way to make it work. He's not gonna stop and say, "Golly gosh! I completely forgot that Lycanroc can't hold items! Guess we gotta completely scrap that idea and pick someone else now."

I'm sure he initially had similar problems with Ivy and Duck Hunt. If he could get creative with those two, then I'm sure he could think of something for Lycanroc too.

I had a good laugh. But, I remember that Game Freak are rather very protective for how Pokemon appears in Smash-

As long as Sakurai doesn't get too outlandish with his movesets, I don't think Game Freak really cares. Brawl Lucario wasn't even close to how it was depicted in the games. There was no special "aura" mechanic in DP and the Final Smash was completely made up.

Honestly, I think you could argue that Sakurai tries to stick to the anime more than he does the Pokemon games.

What would your reaction be in the hypothetical scenario where there was 3 characters announced for E3 via a trailer but they were the Ice Climbers, Rex and Isaac (from Golden Sun)?

Rex: Eh, Not super excited but I'm not too bothered regardless, would've greatly preferred Elma
Isaac: Awesome! I don't know anything about Golden Sun but he seems like he'd be a really interesting character and his fanbase deserves it after getting nothing for so long
