So, everyone was a bit underwhelmed by the Smash Dojo (Nintendo’s official website for Brawl) relaunching last night. Check it out if you haven’t seen it. If you’re a fan of the series and have been keeping up with news, then there isn’t much that’s new here. What is new may not be exactly what fans wanted to hear (new characters, stages, etc.), but there is something, at least. Hit the jump for a list of composers working on the title. The list is pretty prestigious.

A big thanks goes out to Chidosengan from our forum for organizing the following list. It is not only the composers working on Smash Brawl, but links to videos or mp3’s showing off their skills.

Here’s our thread dedicated to the composers of Brawl.

Smash Dojo has “weekly updates” right at the top, but it remains to be seen whether this will be every Tuesday at 2am (Central Time, USA).

^_^ Composers For the Win. These people are my idols, as this is exactly what I’m hoping to be when I’m out of college.

Too bad they don’t have none the F-zero composers on it.

Now, here’s my two cents on this announcement.

Now, I know it may not be huge as to people expect. I mean hell, I told Scav that I think there were gonna show more characters and such. But, in a way, this IS big news. I’ll explain

We officially no longer have to believe every James, John, and Joey we hear. We have a source. An -official- source to find out information about Brawl straight from Nintendo. If info like Sonic being in there, or new items going inside, or any such information like that, that website is our No.1 source.

Gamefaqs: Hey, we have the release date.

Me: Is it on the smashbros.com Website?

Gamefaqs:……uh….no?

Me: Then STFU then! >(

Believe it or not, this is a great move Nintendo did.

my two cents

Didn’t they have a site like this before, and it just never got updated and dissapeared?

All I wanted was a freaking release date.

Why would he say that it’s “dangerous” and “risky” to show the composers for the game?

New info means happy Master Makoku. Wonder when it’ll update here in the us. At midnight or at noon. Or anywhere inbetween.

I actually enjoyed this update. Mostly due to the list of composers. I’m VERY impressed by how many amazing people are creating music for Brawl, I could play this game deaf and still have a lot of fun.

I both like and hate the new damage counters. I like them because it kinda looks neat having the character image and their name underneath, possibly to be replaced by the player’s custom initials/name. I don’t like them, because I have problems loosing sight of my character on 4-player brawls on stages like Hyrule Temple, and those are transparent. So I would hope the new camera in Brawl will prevent that.

The future looks really great for Brawl news. I just hope I don’t go insane waiting until Midnight PST for updates >_

It says daily weekday updates, but to contradict that the message at the beginning said that Sakurai would be periodically updating the site. I am just wondering if they are actually going to be daily weekday updates or weekly, and also if whenever Sakurai updates will it be big news? This is really the only thing I can complain about, because like Rockin said having a source for believable information is all I could want. (Other than ALL the information, of course)

Well, we’ll know at 2am tonight or so. I personally don’t plan on staying up again, if tonight’s news (if there is any news, mind you) is as underwhelming as today’s.

2 AM’s about my average bed time-but going by last night-I wouldn’t be suprised if the update didn’t happen till 12 noon.

Yep this site is much better than nothing.

And finally, a way to immediately disprove any false release dates given out by other people. ^_^

I really hope that this time it something slightly more informative, I mean the music was great and all and I think shows us who might be in the next few games which is why it was ‘dangerous’ but Id really like to see something I don’t know not how to play which the game already explains

anyhoo im pleased its being updated now

Whoah, they added Mario and Link to the character list on the site. Really, I think the site is awesome. And while disappointed at first, I warmed up to the idea pretty quickly. Mainly because:

A) the list of composers is MINDBLOWING. This is the first time this many major composers have worked together on a single project in the game industry…ever (as far as I know.)

B) though we wanted it, how boring would it have been to have…just another chunk of news and then a big dryspell of nothing for another four months? I’d rather be reading confirmative info on stages and characters for the next two weeks and then get to the juicy stuff gradually instead of just hearing, “Hey, here’s Sonic! He’s in the game! Now get lost, we’re working here.”

They just put up info about Link and Mario. Doesn’t seem like much, but it show’s that they are getting there.

So next is probably items and maybe a gameplay mode perhaps?

As far as characters go we still have several before they release a new one… [if they plan too] And I highly doubt we can expect a Character update every day.

Oh wells.

In 20 weeks, we will have the full roster of playable characters. Asuming they give out 2 characters per week.

The list up there is wrong, Mother 3 wasn’t cancelled, it was ported and released to the GBA last year. The composer and the song are in Mother 3 for the GBA. :p

I just realized that there is none of the composers worked on any Sonic games so far from what I can tell. Not that it really means anything, but as someone I really want in Brawl it would make me feel much better to seemusic for him.

What!? I didn’t comment? Well then…

Sakurai must at least feel fairly confident in how smoothly the development is proceeding to “promise” daily weekday updates. I’m sure by now the character roster must be locked down and decided. Done deal. They are probably just nailing down the final details, and maybe doing some balancing, or online testing… junk like that. Then again, the DO have probably a good 18 weeks (leaving a little room to print copies/ship) left to mess around with it… or maybe they will put that time to good use adding CRRRAAAAZZY CONTENT!!! Heh, it just feels good to know Sakurai cares. *Sheds tear*

Just Pit today… Oh well. I was hoping he’d keep the 2 characters at a time pattern.

Just saw that there was new news! Very excited. I don’t think people understood how big a deal the composer update is, it’s freaking HUGE imo!
He gives the hint by saying “This is dangerous. It’s a little risky.”
Think about it. The music for Melee has been related to the games of the characters or stages of melee. He tells us what these composers have worked on. To me this says that there is a good chance that there will be new characters and stages from the games these people have worked on before!

To the above poster:

I thought that as well when I saw the list…but I doubt to be true. They’re just stating what the composers are most famous for, not what game the music they are putting in Brawl is actually from.

Anyhow, some new stuff on Pit. Apparently you can controll the curve trajectory of his arrows. Pretty sweet!

Well if they are going to release 3 characters a week, possibly in 14 weeks the complete roster will be revealed.
Although I was disapoint when they skipped over “modes” on Friday (today).

Not to be a snot, but please don’t act like there will “absolutely” be 40 characters in the game. While that may be possible, it’s not necessarily true, as that has never been confirmed.

yeah i pretty much agree, i think if they bring back the majority of characters from melee, plus some new additions a safe number would be between 30-40 give- or-take.
