I apologize for dropping out of the judging, but I do think Kevandre will be a great new judge. Can I enter future rounds?

I know jack about Xenoblade, sobI might have to take a break if the next round is indeed Gaur Plains.
Thankfully, I just happened to have played through the game not too long ago, so I am all ready already!

OK contestants, Time for our next round as I hinted, Gaur-
:wolf: - "I can't let you do that, judges!"

Wolf? What are you even doing here? I thought you retired from Smash as of these new games?

:wolf: - "That's exactly why i'm here. Do you have any idea how hard it was to not show up for Smash Wii U and Smash 3DS when my universe doesn't even have any representation beyond those Star Fox chumps?"

Well, there IS the Orbital Gate-

:wolf: - "So there WAS a new Star Fox stage! Thanks for that info, slick!"

Whoops.

:wolf: - "Since you were way too gullible, i'll give you a proposition out of kindness: Make this round feature the Orbital Gate instead of that Homs nerd and I WON'T make that Smash Wii U Direct make a sudden 'cancellation'."

You don't really give us much of a choice...

:wolf: - "Glad we understand each other. O'Donnell out."

...Well, you heard him, put on your space helmets and set the item frequency to None, it's time for our Wii U Star Fox stage!

Round Twenty: Orbital Gate Assault
Universe: Star Fox
Game of Origin: Star Fox: Assault (GC, 2005)

Assault was the sophomore effort on the Gamecube for Star Fox, and what a game it was: In between all the smooth controls and story of Team Star Fox's mission against the Aparoid Army, it was both the first Star Fox game to feature multiplayer gameplay and the first to let you get out of the cockpit and play as your character on-foot and in-vehicle within the same level. On a personal note, Assault is also my favorite Star Fox game, but that won't influence my judging this round. <Then again, my second favorite is Adventures, so...:p>

These songs aren't actually confirmed for this stage, but as inferred by Smash 3DS, these are still songs to keep mind of:

Name: Corneria <Melee>
Universe: Star Fox
Game of Origin: Star Fox (SNES, 1993; Arr. Origin: Super Smash Bros. Melee <GC, 2001>)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dU8f4mXszy4

Name: Star Wolf / Sector Z
Universe: Star Fox
Game of Origin: Both: Star Fox 64 (Both: 64, 1997)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFVZm8uP21w

Name: Area 6 / Missile Slipstream
Universe: Star Fox
Game of Origin: Star Fox 64 (64, 1997); Star Fox: Command (DS, 2006)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rdXNQeDLok
Your judges for this interstellar round are:

Here's my entry:

Name: Corneria
Origin: Star Fox (SNES, 1993)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7LCXEFl2Xw
Notes: An iconic song that was already in Brawl, I can see it making a comeback.

Name: Star Fox Main Theme
Origin: Star Fox (SNES, 1993)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBXhqBRHaNk
Notes: As it is the main theme of the first game in the series, I think it should be present.

Name: Start Demo 1
Origin: Star Fox 64 (N64, 1997)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4775TRIF7U
Notes: A.K.A., the main theme of Star Fox 64, and the new main theme of the series. I linked the the 3DS version because I really like the new opening.

Name: Main Menu
Origin: Star Fox 64 (N64, 1997)
Links:
Original: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7MyNLkLbzY
Remix: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFmsyXmawo8
Notes: Another classic and iconic Star Fox song. I would like to see something similar to the remix that I linked to, increasing that Space Opera feeling of the song.

Name: Star Wolf Theme
Origin: Star Fox 64 (N64, 1997)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUda-ajk3jM
Notes: Already in Smash 3DS, and just because Wolf isn't coming back, that doesn't mean we can have his awesome theme song in the game.

Name: Great Fox/Pause Screen
Origin: Star Fox Adventures (GameCube, 2002)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60gA3yHck3U
Notes: I think there should be some Adventures songs after the game got ignored in Brawl. The problem is it was hard to pick one that stood out, but I figured since this is basically the main menu song, it would be a good representation of the game.

Name: Title Screen
Origin: Star Fox Assault (GameCube, 2005)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3Ap43W1cfM
Notes: So... I like main menu themes. I think this would be a great song to represent Assault as it is the main theme of the game, and it is original to Assault, plus the stage being played on is based off of Assault.

Name: Oikonny's Fleet/Space Battleground
Origin: Star Fox Assault (GameCube, 2005)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QNTAJnb5A4
Notes: This is the song that plays in the level that Orbital Ring Assault is taken from, so I figured I'd put it in.

Honorable Mentions:
Rocket Raccoon's Theme (Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3Z56kbrogE

I'm not even saying this as a judge, rather as a general goer of this thread, but it would be kinda unfair to do the Wooly World stage for this contest when the source game isn't even out <as nice as Wooly World and the stage look.>

I'm busy with college, so I can't enter this round. Sorry.

In any case, it's probably better if @ TechPowah TechPowah or @ L LF2K takes over the thread. Who wants to volunteer?

Ooh, take over the thread? I'd love to!

Man, to think I started pretty late in the game as a player, now i'm being a judge, and potentially be the new thread guy? (if it's OK with Billy and Jumpman? I am a bit more active on this thread I guess?)

Just as planned. :4villager:

Some eagle-eyed person noticed that Colosseum will have a track from Glory of Heracles (an old Greek Mythology-inspired RPG series that got a new game for the DS in 2010) in its My Music

upload_2014-11-1_4-59-35.png

I've also heard reports that (in addition to WarioWare, inc. and your region's version of Ashley's Theme) Gamer's My Music will have the ability to disable the music entirely, leaving fights on that stage to only sound effects, character voices and ambience just like in Game and Wario <this is not counting things like FS-only music and music-generating items, of course.>

So, from new videos, I've found our Windy Hill soundtrack (may or not be already completed, I don't know if we should do this stage):

Windy Hill:

-Windy Hill: Zone 1 (Sonic Lost World)
-Reach for the Stars (Sonic Colors)
-Open Your Heart (Sonic Adventure 1)
-Sonic Heroes

But in addition, some songs for other stages:
*Battlefield has Boss Battle 1 (Smash Bros. Brawl)
*Palutena’s Temple has Destroyed Skyworld (Kid icarus: Uprising)
*Kalos Pokemon League has the 3DS version's N Castle Medley (Pokemon Black/Pokemon White)
*Great Cave Offensive has The Adventure Begins (Kirby's Return to Dream Land)
*75m has Mario Bros. <So that stage probably isn't coming back>
*Bridge of Eldin has Main Theme (Legend of Zelda) <it's been renamed with a Version 1 tagged on the end, probably to keep people from confusing it with the one on Skyloft>

What a disappointment. The over abundance of vocal themes (which I find pretty obnoxious) was a big letdown for me in Brawl. If Reach for the Stars is the only song from Colors, and we don't get Tropical Resort or Planet Wisp, I think that's a shame. Also looks like there will be a complete dearth of Sonic remixes again. There's so much good stuff there, too.

Oh, almost forgot: There's also reports of Engaging the Enemy/Confrontation With the Enemy on Gaur Plains. Whether it's a separate track or part of the Xenoblade Medley is unknown.

LAST CALL ON ORBITAL GATE! IF YOU HAVE NOT ENTERED YET WISH TO DO SO, DO IT PRETTY SOON!

Sorry if it seems like we're kinda dumping the Stair Fax Asphalt love too early, but it's not because we're ending the contest, don't worry...

Submissions for this round are now closed. Now it's time for us judges to do judge-y things.

This one will go fast, so next round will begin quite a bit earlier than expected.

The results are in. Yay! But before we declare the winner, let's look at the judges' scores:

I'm feeling conflicted about this one because A) It was based on your recommendation that I became a judge in this contest and B) You were generally cool to me with the judging in the stage contest. But, at the same time I've gotta not let that stuff affect my scoring. I have to say, some of your choices here work, but I'd say that most of them don't, unfortunately. I'm all for slower songs in Smash... But I think they have to match the stage. The slower soundtracks of the Pikmin stages, for example, fit incredibly well just based on the source material and the design of the stage itself. However, Orbital Gate is much more of a... chaotic feeling stage I think, making slower songs feel incredibly mismatched for it, no matter how good the songs are. The Stair Fax Temperatures song also felt very out of place, but that's also how the original game was compared to the rest of the series as well so it's hard to say. It doesn't quite feel like "high intensity space battle" at all, feels more like it would belong on a Donkey Kong stage. In the end, I'd say that this felt more like a list of songs one would want to see in a Star Fox stage than feeling like a list of songs fitting to Orbital Gate. Sorry if I was a little harsh on this. Though you've definitely got the most popular Star Fox songs there as well, so that adds to that score. Variety is certainly present, though several are songs we've seen in all previous Star Fox stages as well.

Wow, Violenceman, you knock it out of the park in the stage contest and you knock it out of the park here. I have to say- I am having a problem nitpicking this one at all. All of these songs- with the possible exception of Zoness- Fit the stage's chaoticness very well. They're high intensity and simultaneously having a feeling of battle. Even the Zoness theme fits, though, for the most part. Despite it being a slower song which I feel doesn't match this stage, the particular version that you chose for this actually fits in a more... epic, gladiator, massive scale type of battle. Which, yeah, honestly reminds me of certain other sci-fi battles in which the slower but more epic songs played to a better effect than a faster song would have. As such, I changed my Fit score halfway through writing this to 10/10. You've got the most popular Star Fox songs here too, which is convenient since they fit the level well so full popularity marks. Importance only really took a hit because I would have liked to have seen a secondary, perhaps remixed version of the Orbital Gate theme in your list. Variety suffers slightly, due to popularity though. These things almost confict in a way because when every Star Fox stage has the same songs on it, it can be tiring, especially if they're the first songs listed. But, still, an 8/10 for the variety is nothing to sneeze at either! For a lowest grade, that's not bad at all. Overall, I really enjoyed your songs for this stage. Had my slight nitpickings but otherwise I think it came out really well!

Welcome to the contest! This is my first round as well... Most of these songs fit okay, but in the end it seems like most of them are the same songs we've heard in Star Fox songs from previous Smash games. I don't agree at all with the Adventures song, though. I'm sure that there's a song from the game that would work for this stage, but I have to say that this one song was a large deduction because it feels completely off for this stage. However, it does add variety to the listing so that's higher. You've got the important songs for the most part as well, though I'm thinking that Corneria shouldn't be on here twice. Overall, not a terrible list but definitely not what I would choose, myself.

Comments: A strong setlist that encompassed a lot of popular tunes! But Star Fox 64’s menu theme was a bit chill for an epic space battle. The Pause Screen from Adventures didn’t really fit the space theme either; it might have been better suited for Jungle Hijinx.

This may be my preference of Assault's more modernized tracks over its orchestrated tracks speaking, but I love that you went with Assault's main menu and not just stick with Space Battleground. Unfortunately, the Adventures pause menu is neither popular nor very fitting, though the Star Fox SNES and 64 music along with Space Battleground completely fail-safes you from losing Importance points.

...Ahem. No 64 main theme or is surprising, and Katina is a bit of an offhanded choice, but every song fits the tone of the level, and the Assault-Not Assault ratio is a bit better with the Command track.

First, welcome to the contest! It's unfortunate you came into it on such a late round, but don't worry, even I only came in as just a player on Rainbow Road 7 for Round 15, and i'm the thread owner! =P

Considering we have Lylat Cruise confirmed to come back this game, it's a shame your CST only has one song from Assault, especially since this stage is specifically from Assault only as opposed to Lylat Cruise's multi-game trip. In fact, the only song on your CST that wasn't already in Smash Bros in some fashion was the Command track. that said, all of the songs chosen are popular, and that most of your choices are already Smash Bros. staples show how well they fit.

Your tracklist is very nice in my opinion. Corneria is a good choice and you mention it making an appearance in Brawl, but you don't use the Brawl version on your list. Same with the Main Theme of Star Fox. On one hand, it makes sense for those versions to stay on Lylat Cruise as it's a returning stage. But then it feels redundant to include them here as well. While they are pretty important songs and popular, it lowers your variety a bit.

Now with Start Demo... this has received a remix in the original, Melee, and Brawl, and it's safe to say that we'll get our own version of this classic theme as well. Star Fox 64's Menu is very somber and peaceful sounding and I feel that the remix you linked would be perfect for a game like Smash. Star Wolf is a great track of course, but why not use the version we've already heard in the 3DS version, which is pretty much guaranteed to be here? Seems like an odd omission.

Great Fox and Pause Screen is a good paced track and probably the most familiar to anyone who played Star Fox Adventures. In any case, it makes sense to give the game a little nod. Star Fox Assault's Title Screen definitely does not sound like what I would expect from a Star Fox title. But it is pretty catchy. Funny thing about your last choice. Space Battleground was actually on Lylat Cruise in Brawl. It's guaranteed to be in, but I think it could be transplanted over to this stage easily enough.

You left out some important tracks from your list, Corneria (Melee) and Area 6 / Missile Slipstream, the latter of which is a shoe in for this stage. Regardless, your list still scores fairly high, as I liked a lot of your choices. Good job!

You have Corneria and Star Wolf/Sector Z. So far, so good. Katina amd VS. Orbital Gate are nice tracks and I think they would fit the stage. Great Leader, Fox McCloud is an interesting choice, but it's good Command rep and I think it would fit. Zoness sounds like it's a good choice, definitely has an ominous feel to it. Boss: Aparoid Blitz is one I'm not too sure about. It feels too similar to the other Star Fox Assault tracks on the list. That credits music is awesome and maybe a good rep for Adventures.

So it is a nice list, but where is Area 6 / Missile Slipstream? It's an odd track to leave out when you got the other two on there. Perhaps swap out Boss: Aparoid Blitz for it maybe? No rep for the main theme of Star Fox either? Other than that, good work!

You got all three Star Fox tracks from the 3DS version covered, so that's good. Space Battleground makes sense here on this stage and could easily transition over. Your list gets shaky here, however. Main Themes of both Star Fox and Star Fox 64 and Corneria are already being used with Lylat Cruise as well. Cannibalizing it too much is going to leave it pretty bare, so I'm afraid some points are going to be lost. Your Star Fox Adventures track is good, though.

Your main problem is that there are too many Brawl tracks on this stage. If Lylat Cruise wasn't coming back, it'd make sense. But I'd let that stage have the tracks it has and get some new remixes up in here. A good list otherwise.

This game's winner is... @ Violenceman Violenceman ! Congrats, your prize is your very own Arwing! Now, let me just find the keys to it...Ah, they're gone! Darn it, that must've been the REAL reason Wolf hijacked the contest, he just wanted the Arwing! Well, as long as he didn't steal a Landmaster, you have any idea how many people have those things already? They got super cheap because of it!
Well, at least Violenceman's CST will go on the Hall of Fame on page 75...

"A stage from 64 is the last round before release? i'm done with this dumb game!"
"This game stinks!"
"Why isn't it Gaur Plain, we ALL want to do that stage!"
"Does anyone know if there are any stages with Golden Sun music in them?"
"Who's Captain Rainbow?"
"Guys, guys, Commander Video is a trophy, Bit.Trip stage confirmed!!1!one!"

Well fine, then, if that's how you guys are gonna be, i'm cancelling this contest! Hmph!>
:4shulk:- "Stop the round!"

"Oh, hey, Shulk. How's it going, man?"

:4shulk:- "You can't do Congo Jungle 64!"

"Why not? Might as well do an original stage as a sort of book end, right?"

:4shulk:- "If you do that stage for the last round before Smash Wii U releases, no one will enter out of boredom. You end up cancelling the contest!"

"Oh man, that sounds awful! Well, how do we prevent the contest from ending?"

:4shulk:- "I have just the idea, but it's gonna be a big one."

:4shulk:- "All right, you think it'll work?"

"Oh yeah, this'll DEFINITELY work. Thanks, Shulk!"

Alright contestants, change of plans! Thanks to a tip I got from an anonymous friend, we're gonna do a second "Special Feature" round like Smash Run before. This round will be called...

Remember Round 17 where we did Tortimer Island and Jungle Japes Melee in one round? We're doing that again, but not just 2, but FIVE STAGES!
